Maria couldn't believe Alex had just left her there.
Anger boiled up inside her until she snapped. "That old woman is dead; what does it have to do with me?"
She kept on ranting, her voice getting louder. "Don't you dare pin this ridiculous stuff on me. Whether she died or not is none of my business. Now get out of my way and let me go!"
Nevaeh stood right in front of her, not moving an inch. Her cold stare fixed on Maria like a sharp knife, like she wanted to tear her to pieces.
Every time Maria said "that old woman," it was obvious she had zero respect for Nevaeh's grandma.
And seeing how close she was to Alex, Nevaeh's suspicion grew. She couldn't shake the feeling that Maria was involved in her grandmother's death.
"Sawyer!" Nevaeh commanded, her voice icy. "Get this woman under control."
"Yes, ma'am!"
At her word, Sawyer moved fast. He grabbed Maria, twisting her arms behind her back so she couldn't escape.
