Chapter 5 - Arrival and unease

Her knees buckled. She backed against the wall, clutching the Bible. A gust of icy air swept through the room, extinguishing the candle she had lit for comfort. Darkness swallowed everything. Even darkness felt layered, thick, like another dimension pressing against this one.

And then she saw it clearly: a tall, faceless figure standing silently in the corner. It didn't move like a human; it bent the shadows around it. A hand lifted slowly, almost beckoning. It wasn't just a figure—it was part of the flat, a shadow pulled from somewhere between worlds.

It waited as if aware of her every thought, every fear.

Adaeze's scream lodged in her throat. She pressed herself into the wall, paralyzed by terror.

Another whisper, soft but sharper this time:

"You shouldn't be here…"

Not just her presence, but her very self—her soul—was in the wrong place, a veil she hadn't yet crossed deliberately.

She realized, with a chill crawling up her spine, that she was not alone.

And this was only the beginning.

Mini cliffhanger: Who—or what—is in the apartment with Adaeze? And why is it waiting for her?
