Adaeze pressed herself against the wall, heartbeat hammering, Bible clutched. Shadows seemed to lean in like predators.
Eli's voice dropped low: "Soon… you will understand why some darkness never forgets."
Her mind raced. If the shadows of Lagos truly followed me here… can I survive what comes next?
The golden light flickered, dimmed. A whisper echoed: You cannot hide…
She muttered Psalm 23 one last time, voice barely audible:
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever..."
Her prayer faded into the thick, alive darkness.
