Chapter 34 - Chapter 9.1: The Unavoidable Questioning

"Well…" Kagura was disoriented by word but tried to get herself back. "I was just guessing. I guessed so because it was probably by that time considering how it troubled you and since you hadn't told Aiya, it had to be within a short period of time."

Kagura was quick on her feet–a needed skill in social interactions, however, she was a bit too short.

Perhaps it would have been enough if I was actually sad and not thinking too deeply, unfortunately for her this was a planned act.

"But then why aren't you shocked that I and Suzuki are dating?"

"...?!"

"I just can't trust you," I pushed her away; escaping the hug.

"Huh? N-No, I'm trustworthy. I wasn't the one who called you, I'm–"

"So will you still try and deny?" I asked.

"..." She lowered her gaze, biting her lip.

"Why'd you ask me to break up with Suzuki?"

"..."

"At least tell me why."

I still couldn't figure out why Kagura did this. It wasn't out of attraction so was it out of concern?

But what is she concerned about?

I had to wait till she told me because theories would be almost useless when I had little to no information.

"...Why won't I?" she said barely above a whisper. "We have an 'asset' and you think I'll let Aiya throw that away."

She narrowed her eyes then spoke again. "No, I won't."

An 'asset?' Is she referring to me? What does she mean by 'throw-away'?

"Ka—"

The bell rang before I could continue, and she ran back to class.

"Hey, Kagura!" I screamed but she didn't look back.

"Just let me go…You've made your choice," her voice was cold and completely distant–it had no semblance to her usual bubbly personality.

It was like I rejected an angel's hand when it tried to save men but then it suddenly turned to a demon's hand, and tried to kill me.

I've made my choice?

"Wait, let's talk about–"

"I said let go," she forcefully pushed me away but never raised her voice.

She just pushed me away and continued walking, not even turning back at me.

"K-Kagura?"

"We're having class. Don't follow me, and just head over there."

"..."

Despite what she said, when I arrived in class she was already there.

So she came before me, huh?

Classes went by quickly and I was about to go to the lavatory when a person yanked my clothes—it was Suzuki's friend–Yoshida.

She was accompanied by another one of Suzuki's friends, and also Hayashi. They led me to their table and sat me down.

It must have looked like I was being fawned over beauties. And while yes they were, they also kidnapped me.

It made me focus a bit on their features–Yoshida had orange hair with a green hairpin and pink nails and wore her uniform casually.

She dressed like a gyaru, just like Suzuki. Suzuki's other friend had a more sporty look.

She had short hair that was dyed green, wore a short sleeve shirt, and also wore a very short skirt even shorter than that of Suzuki and Yoshida.

It was so short that any gust of wind would raise it, luckily, she wore cycling shorts under her overly short skirt.

Why were the short skirt in the first place?

She also had a sporty look, having lots of band aids–though those seemed to be for cosmetic choices because she didn't look athletic in the slightest.

Whereas Hayashi in contrast to them dressed like she was in a private academy–she wore everything down to the blazer with her elegant white hair that reached down to her waist.

As I focused on her features she turned towards me but I quickly turned away but it seemed she still caught me.

Luckily, Yoshida spoke up so Hayashi didn't have the chance to say anything.

"Nakamura, Aiya-chan told us you and her were dating. We're here to confirm."

"Wait, you didn't notice yesterday?"

I couldn't act like I knew that they knew I and Suzuki were dating so I had to just deceive them–just like Kagura.

"I'm the one asking the questions here."

"We are, but can I at least know your names?"

"You don't even know our names, that's pathetic," she tried to hold back laughter by using her left hand to cover her mouth.

"You do know that you didn't introduce yourselves yesterday, right?" I replied in a matter-of-fact tone.

I knew Yoshida's and Hayashi's names but not the name of the last friend so it was going to get weird eventually so it was best to know it through this round about method.

Also, how's that pathetic?

"Oh right, introductions. The name's Yoshida Aiko," she grinned.

Well, I knew your name since you're dating Miyamura, but you don't know that.

"Mine's Kato Yua, and don't you forget it. Hmph," she looked away from me abruptly as if I had wronged her.

I actually heard her first name yesterday but I had inkling it was her first name and didn't want to be polite so I didn't use it.

"My name is Hayashi Nanase," she said politely.

"Now back to the questions. How did you and Aiya start dating?" Yoshida asked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Uh, I just accepted her confession and that's about it."

"Nakamura, I think you made a grammatical error. Don't you mean when you asked Aiya out, she accepted your confession?"

"Yoshida, I made no mistake. She's the one who asked me out."

"That makes no sen—Oh I see, Aiya asked you to fake being her boyfriend to prank us."

What kind of logic is that? So, she chooses to deny the truth.

Well, if she doesn't believe it doesn't matter, I mean I neither gain nor lose anything.

"Aiko, why don't we call Aiya over and ask her?" Kato proposed as Hayashi watched us intensely—more specifically, she watched me.

I wanted to ask Hayashi a few things but couldn't because people were around me.

After a while, Suzuki came over to the table and sat beside me.

"Aiya sorry to ask weird questions but did you ask Nakamura out?" Yoshida asked politely.

You had no problem dragging me here but suddenly when it's her turn you add 'sorry'.

"Yeah," Suzuki replied.

"So, he wasn't lying, huh?" Kato mumbled in shock.

"Oh right, I forgot to tell you guys that," Suzuki continued.

"How would you forget that major detail?!" Yoshida shouted in surprise.

"But you didn't tell me how you and Miyamura started dating."

"That's…It's completely different!!!" Yoshida blushed.

The people beside us narrowed their eyes at us; I looked back remorsefully, as if saying, "I'm sorry they dragged me here."

"Aiya-chan," Kato said, a bit hesitantly–her hands gripping the table slightly.

"Yeah, what's up?"

"Why'd you ask out someone like him?"

"..."

"He's frankly, not even close to being good enough for you."

"There are better people, like Ito for example. He would have been bett–"

"Don't talk about him like that!" Suzuki screamed. "You did it yesterday and I overlooked it but now, it's just plain insults. Nakamura is the one I love and you should just respect that."

"But he's–"

"Don't ever bring up this topic or else…I won't ever talk to you again," Suzuki furrowed her brows, and arranged her stuff–as if about to leave, about to leave with me apparently.

Kato was clearly shocked, her eyes quickly moving between I and Suzuki, slightly narrowing when she faced me with her grip on the table growing harder.

Before she took in a deep breath and bowed.

"...I apologise," Kato seemed remorseful to which Suzuki's expression also lightened.

"Nakamura, do you accept the apology?"

I nodded instinctively. Although I didn't particularly like the teasing, it wasn't so bad that I didn't want to ruin Suzuki's friendship with Kato.

"I suppose I don't get to be mad if Nakamura isn't…but just don't do it again."

All I could do was watch in awe, as I defended and funnily, no table gave us weird looks despite the emotional rollercoaster.

After that, they went straight to girl talk like nothing happened–and of course I tuned out their words, and just ate my lunch (I went back to class to get it) and thought about Kagura, and what she could be hiding.

I mean on one hand, I don't want to force her to tell me but, on the other hand, I wanna know why she doesn't want me dating Suzuki.

Suzuki didn't display anything particularly bad; she seemed to genuinely love and cherish me, in fact, she even defended me.

So I was skeptical at what Kagura was trying to pull. However, I didn't completely disregard her words.

I'll wait till Kagura opens up because that's what a good friend will do.

Author's Note:

Well, I don't trust but feel free to do whatever you want Nakamura.

BTW, I'm playing a little faster by there for tomorrow–it's that song in Ben 10: Alien Swarm.

That movie is peak but I have a promised story so more on that later.

Basically, I have a friend who is a music elitist (If yk yk). So like I watched Kpop Demon Hunters and squealed like a little girl, and luckily, Zoey is legal, I think.

Anyway, his elitist side took over and he wanted to kill me–he said the Saja boys are dogshit just like all Kpop songs, and I was baffled.

That was then I lost faith in elitists cuz before then I thought I just had trash taste but now, I realised that music taste is just subjective.

So yeah, that's all for the story. Also, I have to address this cuz it's getting annoying.

You guys at Webnovel who comment saying you wanna "help me." It's getting annoying–like I'm broke so please refrain from doing that.

If you wanna advertise your business just know you're talking to brokie so leave me be, and let me write my book.

Even if I have no readers cuz y'all left, I won't care because all I care about is making a good book, and that's a fact.

Anyway, remember to comment, share, and leave a review. Thanks for reading the chapter and see you in the next one.
