Chapter 4 - Mistvale Orphanage

The next day, All of them were traveling to Mistvale Orphanage by bus and discussing some doubts about the locket. Seraphina asked, "Why aren't we getting hurt again like before?" Casper answered her, "I will hypothesize that all targets of this generation have touched it, and we are on the right path. I mean, we are going to do that ritual as mentioned by the previous generations." Then Charlotte asked, "I am not sure this is the right thing to ask, but, I...- I mean, why do we trust each other so much? I am not the type to trust anyone easily, yet I came with you all without some questions." Thaddeus replied, "Yes, that concerns me too, but I think that is related to Locket too."

As they got near the orphanage, Seraphina felt an uncertain feeling, which gave her shivers down her spine. Casper asked Seraphina, "Is there someone you remember in the orphanage?" Seraphina heard the question and remembered an old nun who ran the orphanage and always wore a key around her neck as jewelry. Seraphina answered, "Yes, an old nun named Ala.". Casper's eyes widened as he heard her name, "You know that's a demon's name, right?". An awkward silence remains between them throughout the journey.

At nearly midnight, they reached the orphanage. As they got near the main door, the smell of rotten flesh broke the sweet fragrance of soil. As Thaddeus opens the door, all four of them widen their eyes in surprise and fear at the sight of many bodies of children and nuns hanging from the ceiling. Seraphina cries aloud after seeing Nun Ala hanging and a small chain in Ala's mouth. "That's the key, I guess," Seraphina said in a terrified tone. As Casper and Thaddeus took down the nun's body. Tears came to Seraphina, the girl who doesn't show much emotion, after seeing all this.

All four of them heard a girl's giggling coming from upstairs. "Is there anyone still alive?" Thaddeus asked in surprise. "We should check upstairs." Charlotte suggested in horror. As they climbed the creaking stairs, following the sound of giggling, their hearts pounded with anticipation and dread. The laughter seemed to echo from everywhere and nowhere at once, leading them down a dark hallway lined with empty rooms. "It's coming from here," Charlotte whispered, pointing to a door at the end of the corridor.

Thaddeus slowly pushed open the door, revealing a simple room with a single bed, a wooden desk, and moonlight streaming through a cracked window. The giggling had stopped. The room was completely empty. "There's no one here," Casper said, his voice barely above a whisper. But Seraphina's eyes were drawn to the desk, where a notebook lay open, its pages yellowed with age. Written in Nun Ala's familiar handwriting were words that made her blood run cold.
