3 Days till the end
[ chapter 2 ].
{ the summer that i will never forget }
axel opens his eyes to see himself sitting on an old plain chair next to a long table. his head is still in dizzy from what happened and he can't confirm if he is still alive or dead and this is all is just a dream. after regaining his consciousness more he realizes the shocking site of the place he is in. it's a large flat ground and with no end to it's size. he can feel his legs being drown in water and as he moves his head down he sees that the water is filling this whole world. but in a huge scale where it's drowning. the sky shocks him even more with it's dark purple look and those weird triangular shapes that looks like a failed try to replace the stars. a sudden voice breaks the silence and switches axel focus to it. he looks in front of him to see an unknown person or to put it in a more correct way. an unknown creature. he's soo tall almost 8 feet tall. with long limbs. his whole body covered with dark cloths and hus hands are hidden with black bandages. he wears a big old hat that nearly covers his whole face but it can't hide those sharp creepy shaped eyes. it looks like they are seeing everything and nothing at the same time. axel amusement and shocked gets cut when the unknown creature starts to speak.
unknown: are you fully awake now. that took a lot of time
axel: who are you.... what are you?
unknown: isn't that kinda rude. you know you have to be well mannered when meeting strangers. especially when you want to know things from them
axel: where am i... what happened?
unknown: don't you remember what were you doing before you get here?
axel tries to remember and before he wants to admit that he can't remember. suddenly a strike of memories flood to his brain like an old movie tape being slammed into his mind by force making him scream his guts out. every little detail in his life is re appearing once again to hunt him.
unknown: wow you look traumatized. have you remembered something?
Axel: am i dead?
unknown: who knows. you got shot by your dearest friend and you got knocked on the ground. you don't remember what happened after right.
axel: no... i thought all of it was a long dream.
unknown: well sorry to break it for you but none of this is a dream. do you want to know the rest of your story?
axel: how do you know all of this and who are you؟
unknown: i know many things you can't imagine. I'm what you humans consider as an alien or a monster or a mythical creature. those who you only see in fiction books. and to make this short just call me veto.
axel: what's going on here. why am i in this place.
veto: jeez yeah really are a rude person. asking soo many stuff without giving space to listen. anyway this is my humble world. you can call it another dimension or another universe or just an imaginary place in your mind. i brought you here a second before you die.
axel: so am i dead now?
veto: do you wanna know what happened after you got shot. i can tell you. on fact i can tell you your whole future from that moment till you die.
axel: you are talking nonsense... stop this
veto: axel collen. arrested for manslaughter of 5 year old lisa golissn at the age of 19 years old. he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. you lived a miserable life in prison jumping from a cell to cell. fighting and getting beaten up. wasting the money you gain by work to buy drugs and barbe the prison guards so they don't report on you. you got released from prison after serving 30 years due to good behavior but your life never got better in the free world. by the time you got out you were almost 50 years old. worked in a low pay construction job and spend the money you get by drinking alcohol and taking drugs in your old small apartment. never went out to do anything apart from work and staying at home and drinking because you always thought that the life already passed you by.with no family members or relatives to call for help.
you spent your days in a downward spiral until you died because of an overdose at the age of 54 in your apartment bed. because you don't have friends or visitors your body was found after 3 by your landlord because he came to collect rent. your neighborhood felt bad for you so they collected money to do a small funeral for you since they didn't got contact with anyone in your family. merely 8 people attended the funeral and all of them don't know nothing about you but the fact that you lived in this apartment for a specific time. at the end you wasted all your life in regret and blame for every mistake you did without changing anything because escaping reality was far more convenient for you then facing it. you lived a meaningless life till the end.
axel: what the hell are you even saying. don't give me this crap and act like you know me. i don't believe none of this.
veto: if you want i can still go on with this path and have you living the same life i described. just imagine it. living a life that you know what's going to happen in it and not being able to change no matter what. seems like a nightmare to me. but don't worry because i can help you.
axel: how?
veto: you see that question requires for me to tell you a little story about myself and my kind.
axel puts both his hands on the table and focuses his gaze at veto. assuring to him that he will listen to everything he says in order to change his fate.
veto: i came from a far far away planet. back on my planet my people were soo strong and ruthless creatures. it's a hellish place where the weak dies and the strong thrives. we conquer planets and destroy them just for the sake of amusement and unfortunately the time had finally come where we set our sights on your planet. what you call Earth. but you see before we decide the fate of any planet we like to play a little game. it's like a tradition to us.
axel: what kind of game?
veto: you see we like to let the people of these planets decide their own fate by themselves. and that's where your role comes as either the saver or destroyer of your planet
axel: just cut the chase already
veto: you see i checked the history of earth. it's a pretty thriving planet with the potential for revolution and higher dreams that no one could ever imagine. but at the same time it was filled with misery, hatred, cruelty, despair and war. it's an unfair place where you can live your best life or die cursing this life in your grave. don't you see that all this is unfair?.
axel: what is your point
veto: me and my kind we soo confused and lost deciding the fate of Earth so we had to pick someone from this own planet to decide it for themselves just like we usually do. and guess who was the lucky one.
axel: why me?
veto: and why not? don't think about these stuff. you getting chosen was nothing special. we just do it randomly.[ the untruthful half smile on veto face made it sure that he was hiding something ] .
axel: so you want me to decide now?
veto: as much as i like to do this. our people believe in second chances so here's the plan. you're going to re live your most life changing years in your life span with a little bit if differences here and there and when this day comes again. the day that you were supposed to be shot. i want to hear the answer from the new you. your new self that walked on a new path. although i can't say that the path you're going to choose will be bright or filled with pain and suffering again. it's all up to you. you have to fate of humankind on your shoulders so what do you say?.
axel takes a moment to think about all the bad things that happened in his life and how he wasted it for nothing. a rush of different kinds of feelings flow into his body. regret, blame, sadness but mostly Anger. anger at this unfair world that mocked him from the day he was born. he calm himself down and gather all his strength to open his mouth and say this few words.
axel: fine I'll do it. after all i don't wanna live like this to die rotting in my grave archiving nothing
veto claps his hand in a satire tone
veto: yay i knew you had it in you. oh but before you go i have a little gift for you that maybe or maybe not change your second chance forever .
axel: a gift?
veto suddenly reveals a plate out of nowhere and on top of the plate is weird shaped food. it's soo weirdly structured that it doesn't look like food at all. he passes the plate to axel.
veto: here you go that's your gift. eat it with pleasure
axel: I'm not going to eat this crappy looking thing. what is even that. what kind of a gift is this.
veto: not now don't be stubborn. everything will be revealed when it's the right time. trust me you don't want to waste another chance right? eat it if you want to change your fate
axel takes the food with eyes filled with determination and eats it without leaving anything left.
veto: wow i like the spirit. now i think that marks the end of our conversation. you will wake up to your new life or should i say. second attempt at life. just remember what we talked about here and don't forget. whether this world will live or die. follow your heart and make the choice that you see right
suddenly axel mind feels dizzy and he loose his consciousness. the last thing his eyes saw was the creepy uncomfortable smile of veto. he wakes up at the loud voice of someone shouting his name.
axel . axel!!!
axel see himself sitting on a desk in a class filled with students looking at him. some are laughing and other simply not caring. he realized that the teacher is shouting at him.
axel: yes teacher
teacher: read this page. what's gotten into you. didn't you hear what i say from the first time. pay more attention.
axel: sorry teacher
as he starts to read what's on the page his mind is working non stop to figure what is happening. then he takes a good look at his hands to find it small in it's size. not like what it used to be and and after more focus. he realized that he became shorter. he finishes reading the page.
teacher: good job. next one read page 46
as axel sits down all his predictions became clear as he sees his reflection on the class window next to him. he see that he got back to being a kid. he asks the girl sitting next to him.
axel: hey what's the date of today
classmate: huh are you for real what's your problem today. it's the 15th of june
axel: i want to know the year just tell me
classmate: it's 2018 you idiot
suddenly everything becomes clear to axel. he got back in time to where he was 13 years old. it's where everything started. where his life began to fall apart. on this summer season. the season that he always hated.
[ because this summer season will hunt him for the rest of his life ]
