Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The First World [Back Room]

huffing and puffing.

A man in a yellow protective suit was running in a special space, breathing heavily like a bellows.

The space is composed of rooms covered with yellow wallpaper.

The incandescent lamp on the ceiling made a squeaking sound of electricity, but he had no time to care about so much now, because a three-meter-tall monster was following closely behind him.

"Damn it! Why is there a monster here?!"

The monster was made up of wire-like tissue, and its tentacle-like 'hands' stretched forward desperately.

A shrill scream came from the black head that looked like a wooden fish, although this monster made of wires did not seem to have a throat.

He didn't dare look back or even slow down.

The adrenaline prevented him from feeling any fatigue for a short period of time, but this hopeless escape made him feel like he was about to be swallowed by fear.

Just when he was about to give up, a door appeared in his sight.

A wooden door appeared on a yellow wall.

'Door?!'

A surge of power surged from within him, causing his tired body to speed up again.

Entering this unknown wooden door may lead to death, but if he doesn't enter, he will definitely die. This is not a multiple-choice question at all.

He used all his strength to crash into the wooden door. In an instant, the monster's roar disappeared, and he fell heavily to the ground.

Lying on the ground with his back facing up, he looked at the gray sky through the protective mask.

"I survived..."

The sore feeling in his legs made him not want to move at all.

"What is this place? There's no record of it in the data... Is this a new level?"

Just as he was about to stand up, a voice filled with suppressed anger came from behind him.

"I... was imprisoned for ten thousand years and expelled from my homeland."

"Now you dare to trespass into my territory! You are courting death!"

Hearing this second-year voice, he lay on the ground motionless, with a young man standing behind him.

An Asian man in his twenties, wearing a blue T-shirt and ordinary jeans, was standing behind him and looking at him calmly.

Hearing the other party's remarks that sounded like a second-year syndrome, he didn't even dare to move, let alone laugh.

There was no reason, simply because there was a long sword made up of small lime-colored cubes pressed against his neck.

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Leon. Welcome to my world."

This was the first time in his life that he had experienced being welcomed with a sword at his neck, and he hoped that this would be the only time in his life that he would experience this.

But it was very strange that the language the other party spoke was not English at all, but in a very strange way he could clearly understand what the other party meant.

Especially in this strange place, we must be careful about everything. I adjusted my mindset and asked carefully: "Are you a wanderer? Where is this place?"

The environment here is obviously completely different from the Level 0 he was just in, so he has this problem.

Wanderers are a general term for people who have mistakenly entered the [back room].

The [back room] is an inner world relative to the [front hall] (real world).

From the [front hall], get to the [back room] by some special methods, including but not limited to the "stuck box" method in "CrossFire", walking backwards with a camera and falling down (definitely).

Leon was very excited when he saw the 'Minions' in front of him who he could communicate with. The reason why he made such a childish remark just now was because he had been kicked into this strange space by 'people' for a week.

He tried many methods, but there was no way to leave this space shrouded in gray fog, and the [bedrock] under his feet could not be destroyed.

That's right, it's a block in Minecraft that cannot be destroyed or mined by conventional means in survival mode and adventure mode.

And his 'golden finger'... it's not quite appropriate to say it this way. It's better to say that he has become Steve in "Minecraft" rather than a golden finger.

Now he has health, hunger value, backpack, quick inventory... It can be said that he basically has everything Steve has.

It's just that he's not a cube man.

"Where is this? Didn't I just tell you? This is my world."

Looking at the protective mask on the other person's head that made it impossible to see his face clearly, Leon smiled and said, "Now sit up, take off your protective mask and let me see you to make sure you are human."

From the very beginning, the yellow protective suit on the other person gave him an inexplicably familiar feeling.

When the other party asked him if he was a wanderer, he had a guess in his mind about the origin of this little yellow man.

The man hesitated for a moment, but finally reached out and slowly took off the hood on his head. He was about thirty years old, with blond hair and blue eyes, a standard European and American handsome guy. However, the bloodshot eyes and pale and sickly face greatly reduced his handsome appearance.

"Very good. Now I will ask you questions and you will answer them. I hope you can cooperate."

"What's your name? Of course you can make one up, it's mainly for my convenience."

"And where are you from?"

During the conversation, Leon did not let the other party stand up, and the stone sword in his hand was kept close to the other party's neck to ensure that he could launch an attack at the first time if any accident occurred.

"Eric, you can call me Eric. I'm from Level 0. I came here accidentally because I was being chased by an entity. If I have offended you, I apologize."

Upon hearing Level 0, Leon immediately confirmed his guess.

"Shouldn't back rooms just be an urban legend?"

In 2019, a picture circulated on the popular forum 4chan—a hallway covered in yellow wallpaper. The dim hue and stale lighting made it seem a bit eerie, but that was about it. That is, until someone commented: If you accidentally escape from reality in the wrong place, you'll end up in the Backrooms.

From then on, the "Back Room" ghost story was born on the Internet.

"Now that I've become Steve, traveling to the back room world doesn't seem to be something I can't accept. The only question now is which version of the back room this is..."

There are many versions of [Backroom], but the mainstream ones are fandom, wikidot and kane.

Apart from some basic settings, the contents of the three versions are completely different.

The reason why he was unsure was that the 'Minions' only existed in the Kane version, but the Kane version did not have the concept of levels.

This is very messy.

The stone sword in his hand suddenly disappeared.

He met his gaze, held out his hand, and said, "Eric, nice to meet you."
