Chapter 10 - 10

In New York, within Hell's Kitchen, inside the Good Luck Restaurant.

Chen Ye was seen holding his phone at the restaurant bar, talking to someone.

"Did you see the news just now? My dear godson." Kingpin's voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Thanks to you, I made quite a bit this time. This is much faster and easier money than my other businesses. Hahahaha," Kingpin laughed heartily.

It turned out Kingpin called because of the news about Tony Stark closing his weapons factory.

"You made a lot, right? As for when to sell, I believe you have professionals on your end to handle it, Uncle Kingpin. So, next, the community college I mentioned can start being prepared, right?" Chen Ye immediately interjected.

"It's already being prepared for you, but I must tell you. This matter will face a lot of resistance. The people in Hell's Kitchen are not as easy to talk to as I am."

"Even if I hadn't made money this time, would I not prepare it for you? My dear godson. You don't even want to call me godfather," Kingpin complained.

"You know, I've never been religious, and I believe you aren't either. If it weren't for my dead old man..." Chen Ye said grumpily.

Hearing Chen Ye say this, Kingpin didn't get angry. If others in Hell's Kitchen saw Kingpin chatting and laughing on the phone, they would probably be very surprised.

"Don't talk about your father like that. I actually think the best decision he made in his life was to make you my godson."

"I don't know why you insist on building a school and running a restaurant after returning to Hell's Kitchen. If it really doesn't work out, just come back and take over for me so I can retire early," Kingpin continued.

"Are you kidding? Don't you still have Richard? Why do you insist on giving it to me?" Chen Ye quickly refused.

"You know, Richard is not suited for this. If he enters this World, he'll be eaten alive. I just want him and Vanessa to live a peaceful life," Kingpin said helplessly.

"Let's talk about it later. If I took over, many of your businesses would have to be cut by me, you know me. By then, if your subordinates can endure it, it's estimated that not only Hell's Kitchen, but the entire Dark Dimension would fall into chaos," Chen Ye explained.

"This weekend, Vanessa, Richard, and I will come to eat with you. You've been working part-time for so long; they haven't seen you in a while. Vanessa says she misses you, you little brat. No refusing, it's settled," Kingpin said unequivocally.

That's right, this Kingpin is the big villain of Hell's Kitchen, Kingpin, full name Wilson Fisk. He is a tall man with only two percent body fat.

At least 40% of all criminal activities in the entire Marvel Universe are related to him. When you mention heroes in Hell's Kitchen, you might immediately think of Spider-Man, Daredevil.

But when you mention the villain of Hell's Kitchen, there can only be one, and only one: Kingpin. Other villains are not as memorable as Kingpin.

Actually, Chen Ye doesn't really dislike Kingpin, because he's not like other Marvel villains who constantly want to destroy or conquer the World. Kingpin just wants to legitimately make money; he does whatever makes money. Of course, his methods of making money are not entirely correct.

At least, Chen Ye felt that he was irreconcilably opposed to gambling and drugs.

Secondly, Kingpin is a normal human in Marvel, not relying on mutation or background. He relies entirely on self-training and hard study to make money and build real businesses to escape Hell's Kitchen, climbing step by step to the top. Does he have to be like a certain Spider-Man, who already lived in a slum, but after gaining powers, didn't work hard to make money, flying around every day, only for his uncle to die, himself to be cheated on, and his job to be fired? Chen Ye doesn't object to them punishing evil and promoting good, but if they haven't even lived well themselves, and their families haven't lived well.

If they only focus on saving some insignificant people, sorry, Chen Ye says he can't do it. Comics are comics after all; the people in them become heroes for the sake of becoming heroes. When comics become reality, many people have to struggle for a few pennies; where do they have time to care about others?

When Chen Ye was just born, his dead old man asked Kingpin to be his godfather.

Most people might think that a godfather means the same as a 'gan die' (godfather) in China.

Actually, a godfather in the West is related to religious activities. Families with religious beliefs, after a newborn is born for some time, will go to church to be baptized by clergy.

The newborn will swear things like "I will always be loyal to God," but at that time, the newborn hadn't even grown teeth, and it would be a miracle if he could talk.

So, it's usually the child's biological parents who speak for the child. Later on, this task is no longer done by the biological parents; instead, the parents' best friend is asked to say these words for the child. This man is called a godfather, and the woman is called a godmother.

Moreover, this godfather or godmother is not just for show; he has the obligation to supervise the child's growth. And after the child's biological parents pass away, when the child has no one to raise him, he needs to fulfill the responsibilities of a biological parent.

So, a godfather has more obligations than a 'gan die'.

However, Chen Ye, having been influenced by five thousand years of culture from a great nation in his previous life, is an atheist. If he were to believe, he would believe in the Monkey King or ancient Chinese gods, so calling someone 'godfather' is genuinely a bit difficult for him.

Kingpin is also a money-oriented person and didn't force Chen Ye to call him that. But their relationship is still very close.

Vanessa is Kingpin's wife, and Richard, full name Richard Fisk, is the child of Kingpin and Vanessa. In many Parallel Universes, Kingpin's wife and child die at The Hands of his enemies. It's somewhat similar to the relationship between Spider-Man and Spider-Man's uncle, both are existences that need to be sacrificed to force the protagonist to upgrade.

Kingpin in other Parallel Universes, after his child died, abandoned the idea of retiring and became even more insane. He almost caused the Fourth World War, mainly because Kingpin's enemies were all over the World. Finally, he even came to the realization that a King should not have attachments, and he killed his wife for the sake of the right path. It truly perfectly illustrates the saying, "No woman in the heart, the sword naturally becomes divine."

However, since Chen Ye has transmigrated and has this relationship with Kingpin, he certainly won't let such a thing happen. And because of Chen Ye's influence, Kingpin has also reined himself in a lot. He is not as cruel and cold-blooded as Kingpin in other Marvel stories, nor has he done many heinous things, otherwise Chen Ye's conscience wouldn't allow it. Furthermore, Kingpin in the comics is truly too prone to causing trouble; not to mention ordinary Super Heroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and Spider-Man, he even provoked X-Men and Fantastic Four.

If Chen Ye didn't hold him back, it's estimated that 90% of all Super Heroes in the World would have a grudge against Kingpin. So Chen Ye has always taught Kingpin to quietly make a fortune.

"By the way, Hell's Kitchen hasn't been very peaceful lately. A few days ago, when you weren't here, some rats tried to get into your restaurant and were stopped by my people. Also, The Hand and High Table organizations have been frequently appearing in Hell's Kitchen recently, seemingly looking for someone," Kingpin reminded Chen Ye.

"You be careful. I'll also go ask those people. Hmph, causing trouble on my turf without even saying hello, do they really think I, Kingpin, am a pushover? Others fear the High Table, but I don't. You're just a bunch of people who can't make it to the main stage, organizing a child's game."

"Alright, I'll pay attention too. I'm not afraid of them coming; it just so happens that renovating the school still needs a lot of money," Chen Ye said indifferently.
