Harry jolted. Reflexively shouted: "Understood!"
All second-years looked blankly at Harry's serious expression. Hurriedly followed his voice with scattered replies.
Gemini didn't get angry. Just smiled and started roll call.
By surname order, first called was Hannah Abbott. The blonde, round-faced girl stood timidly. Shouted her response. Got a reassuring, affirming smile from Gemini. Sighed in relief. Sat down.
The following roll call—students loosened up. Voices grew louder each time.
Roll call finished. Gemini closed the roster. Placed it on the podium's upper right corner. Clapped her hands. Drew attention from the buzzing students.
"First, I have questions. Need some traditional wizarding family students to answer." Gemini said. "Those who know the answers, and Muggle-born students—please don't respond yet."
Hermione immediately looked unhappy. But pouted without speaking.
Seeing the discussion below, Gemini tapped her wand. Golden letters appeared before her. Floated quietly in midair.
"How many continents exist in this world? Which ones?"
"What's the world population? How many are wizards?"
"What's the world's land area? How much do wizards occupy?"
Gemini raised her voice. "Traditional wizarding students may discuss together. But don't ask Muggle-born students!"
Hermione stopped pouting. Studied the three questions seriously. Started calculating on paper.
Soon, Slytherins with overseas experience joined forces. Discussed for ages. Only knew Europe, Africa, Americas, Asia—the big regions. Population? They could roughly estimate European wizards. Even America—relations fairly good—they couldn't accurately know wizard numbers. As for Muggle population? Who cared about those crude, stupid Muggles? Heard they couldn't even eat their fill!
The last question—area? They were even more confused. Wizards' area sensitivity extended only to their houses or estates. Suddenly scaling up this much? All the young wizards were lost.
"Seems everyone's unclear. Then I'll explain." Gemini said. "Global land area: 149 million square kilometers. Divided into Eurasia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, and Antarctica. Our Britain, France, and Germany all belong to Eurasia. Excluding uninhabitable Antarctica, 7 billion Muggles live on the remaining five continents."
Seeing students below looking confused, Gemini thought a moment. "Seems you're not sensitive to these numbers. Then look here."
Gemini tapped the blackboard. A picture appeared—Diagon Alley from above. The young wizards recognized it immediately. Pointed at familiar shops.
Gemini tapped the blackboard again. The picture shrank. Revealed a London map. To make it clear, Gemini highlighted Diagon Alley.
"Tell me, how much area does Muggle London have?" Gemini asked.
Hermione's hand shot up. Seeing Gemini's expression, she sheepishly lowered it. Knowing the answer but unable to speak—so frustrating!
Buzzing discussion resumed below.
"Must be tens of thousands of square kilometers, right? After all, Diagon Alley's so small!"
"What nonsense! Do you even know what a square kilometer is? Do you know how big Diagon Alley is?"
"Do you know?"
"No, I don't either. But I think this data must be shocking. Otherwise Professor Black wouldn't specifically use it as an example!"
Seeing classroom order about to collapse again, Gemini stopped the students.
"London's urban area: 1,577 square kilometers." Gemini said flatly.
"That's impossible?!"
Gemini looked over. An unfamiliar Slytherin student.
"Nothing's impossible. This data is verified." Gemini said.
"Now look at this picture." Gemini tapped the blackboard again. A packed stadium appeared.
"How many people do you think are in this stadium?" Gemini asked.
Everyone stared at the densely packed figures. Silent.
"This is merely 20,000 people." Gemini said again.
"And wizards—even all wizards worldwide combined—might not reach a fraction of that. This is what I want to tell you. The world is vast. Not just the wizarding world."
Gemini spoke. Tapped the blackboard one last time. It became a world map.
"Our class's purpose: help you correctly understand our world. Different people on different lands. Different magic. And real Muggles."
All students stared at the world map occupying the entire blackboard. Densely covered with countries and cities. The London they'd just seen? Occupied only one dot's position.
The class ended perfectly. Gemini didn't assign much homework. Just gave an obscure place name and a Britain map. They had to find the location on the map. Submit information about it—photos, legends, even a notable person's name. All acceptable.
Homework due: early next month. Meaning they'd only have one assignment per month. If they still couldn't do well? Gemini would consider rejecting that student.
Soon, Hogwarts owls flew out in waves. Parents receiving letters were baffled. Why find this unheard-of place?!
Gemini successfully transferred homework from students to parents. Made the entire magical world complain. Dumbledore's protest letters nearly filled a basket. But he had no solution. After all, they'd agreed—he couldn't manage Gemini's course specifics.
After several months of classes, Hogwarts students' horizons broadened considerably. Gemini occasionally discussed past wars in class.
Compared them to wizarding wars. No problem without comparison. Comparison revealed gaps.
Turns out that war sweeping Britain a decade ago? In the Muggle world, at most a large-scale brawl? "Large-scale" only added reluctantly considering wizards' destructive power. Just looking at numbers? At most a group fight.
Not just lower-years. Upper-years—especially Slytherins who usually scorned Muggles—started calculating privately. Recently the Dark Lord's rumors grew louder. Should their families consider complete withdrawal? After all, according to Professor Black, this group fight involving dozens? Too degrading to participate. Better spend that effort seeing what money-making methods Muggles had. Their family businesses already peaked in the magical world. After all, the magical world had only this many people. Even without the Muggle world, other countries' magical communities worked! Developing the family—what method wouldn't work? Why follow a gang leader?
That term learned from Professor Black. The more they thought, the more reasonable it seemed! Not to mention Professor Black's special Muggle Weapons Appreciation course for upper-years. Honestly, if Muggles got truly angry, their small frames really couldn't withstand it.
Gemini—with her own power—successfully disrupted the magical world's atmosphere. All traditional wizarding families had no peace this entire Christmas.
And Gemini—who triggered all this? Leisurely took Harry home for the holidays. Did this mess relate to her? Nope. She just taught a class. Things Muggle children knew by elementary school. Wizard children nearly adults still didn't know. She just couldn't stand it.
"So you're just ignoring it?" Dumbledore sat frowning in Privet Drive's parlor. Professor Green beside him.
"How do I manage it? Was my class wrong?" Gemini looked innocent.
Professor Green snorted. "Albus, I think you're overthinking! Miss Black did nothing wrong. Those old fossils immersed in history should open their eyes!"
"Don't interrupt! You're just on parole!" Dumbledore said irritably.
Professor Green looked innocent. "Should I resign?"
"You!" Dumbledore looked furious. "You're threatening me!" The school year just half over. Where would he find a professor?!
Gemini's mouth twitched. "Can you flirt at your own home? This is my house. Or should I provide a guest room?"
"I think that works!" Professor Green's eyes showed amusement.
Dumbledore jumped up with movements unsuited to his age. "Gellert!"
Professor Green—no, Gellert Grindelwald—blinked his mismatched eyes innocently. "What? Albus? Did I do something wrong?"
Gemini covered her stomach. Barely suppressed laughter. Why didn't history books record the first Dark Lord had this personality?!
A silver crow suddenly appeared in the parlor. Gemini recognized it immediately—a Patronus.
"Quirinus Quirrell suddenly died at 3 PM. Turned to ash!" The crow spoke. Vanished.
The three in the room immediately grew serious.
"So the main soul escaped?" Dumbledore sat back on the sofa.
Gemini frowned. "Where was he held? Not his stronghold?"
"Stronghold?" Dumbledore looked confused. Did Quirrell have other accomplices?
"Azkaban. Isn't the maximum security area full of his followers?" Gemini said.
"Of course not. Since learning Voldemort could possess like this, why would I put him where all his people are?" Dumbledore said.
"The possessed person is held at my place. A place even Albus doesn't know. That was my people's alert." Grindelwald said.
"Now the question: how many Horcruxes have we found?" Gemini asked.
Dumbledore pulled out paper. Drew three-dimensional patterns. "Diary, cup, diadem, locket. The thing from that old house disappeared early. I haven't destroyed these. Afraid he'd know early. Go insane and make more. Then it'd never end."
"Current problem: how to find his main soul and the last Horcrux." Gemini tapped the table. Looked at the Horcruxes Dumbledore hid in the parchment.
Dumbledore put away the parchment. Sighed. "Only option now: wait. He definitely won't stay quiet. And Harry's still fine. I have a feeling he'll definitely try to find Harry."
Dumbledore hesitated. Eyes flickering at Gemini. "Then Harry's scar..."
Gemini glanced at Dumbledore. "Put away your schemes. I have my own way to handle that soul fragment. Adults' work shouldn't be given to children. Harry's just an ordinary second-year student!"
Grindelwald immediately agreed. "I think Miss Black is right! Albus, I can help you! Tell me what you need!"
"Gellert!" Dumbledore jumped up again like a cat whose tail was stepped on. "Can you act normal?!"
Grindelwald looked even more innocent. "I just want to help you!"
Gemini covered her cramping stomach from laughter. Mercilessly kicked both centenarians out of the house. Kindly pointed out the nearest hotel location. Heard their couple's rooms were especially interesting! Gemini kindly suggested they try it. Then before Dumbledore could protest, Gemini slammed the door in their faces.
"Seems your student's temper really isn't great. It's getting late, Albus. Why not follow your student's suggestion?" Grindelwald looked enthusiastically toward where Gemini pointed.
Dumbledore's face darkened. "Go yourself!" Directly Apparated. Disappeared.
Grindelwald shrugged. Waved at Gemini peeking through the door crack. Also vanished.
"Sneezewort! Did you record it?! Edit it. After we return, I'm showing the entire magical world!" Gemini looked at the empty doorway. Asked happily.
"Yes, Miss. What style should I edit? Currently available: Bickering Lovers, Tortured Deep Love, etc." Sneezewort's flat electronic voice responded.
Gemini laughed. Ordered: "One of each! After returning, pick with Harry!"
"Yes, Miss!" Sneezewort started working silently.
Gemini sneered at the doorway. Just wait. Before she left, she'd definitely leave Dumbledore a copy!
