Chapter 7 - The Distance Between Us

[BL] Define the Relationship...

The evening was quiet. A soft breeze moved through the trees, and the sky was painted with fading shades of orange and purple. Aarav sat on the rooftop of his house, legs crossed, staring at the horizon. His phone lay beside him, untouched. He had been waiting for a message from Yuvaan all day, but nothing had come.

It had been three days since they last spoke. Not a fight exactly, but something had shifted. A misunderstanding, maybe. Or just silence that grew too long.

Aarav sighed and picked up his phone again. Still no message.

Suddenly, the rooftop door creaked open. Aarav turned quickly. Yuvaan stood there, holding a small bag and wearing a nervous smile.

I brought snacks, Yuvaan said, lifting the bag. Thought you might be hungry.

Aarav blinked, surprised. You came.

Of course I did, Yuvaan said, walking over. I missed you.

Aarav's heart softened. He moved aside to make space, and Yuvaan sat down beside him. For a moment, they didn't speak. The silence was gentle this time, not heavy.

I thought you were upset, Aarav said quietly.

I was confused, Yuvaan replied. I didn't know how to say what I felt.

Aarav looked at him. You can tell me anything.

Yuvaan nodded. I know. That's why I'm here.

He opened the bag and pulled out a small box of chocolate biscuits. Aarav's favorite. Aarav smiled and took one.

You remembered, he said. I always remember, Yuvaan replied.

They ate quietly, watching the sky turn darker. Stars began to appear, one by one.

Do you ever feel like we're changing? Aarav asked.

Yuvaan looked at him. Changing how?

Like… we're not just friends anymore.

Yuvaan's eyes softened. I've felt that for a while.

Aarav turned to him. And you're okay with it?

More than okay, Yuvaan said. I like it. I like you.

Aarav's breath caught for a moment. He had imagined this moment many times, but hearing it made his heart race.

I like you too, Aarav said. I think I've liked you since the day you helped me fix my bike.

Yuvaan laughed softly. You were so annoyed that day.

And you were so patient, Aarav said. I noticed.

Yuvaan reached out slowly, brushing Aarav's hand with his fingers. Aarav didn't pull away. Their hands touched, warm and steady.

I was scared, Yuvaan admitted. Scared that if I said something, I'd lose you.

You won't, Aarav said. I'm here. I'm not going anywhere.

Yuvaan smiled, his eyes glowing in the soft starlight. Then he leaned his head gently on Aarav's shoulder.

This feels nice, Yuvaan whispered.

It does, Aarav replied, resting his head against Yuvaan's.

They sat like that for a long time, wrapped in quiet comfort. The world below was busy, but up here, everything was still.

Do you remember that night at the lake? Yuvaan asked.

Aarav nodded. You told me your dreams.

And you listened, Yuvaan said. No one ever really listened before.

I always listen to you, Aarav said. Because you matter to me.

Yuvaan turned his face slightly, looking up at Aarav. His eyes were full of emotion—soft, open, and honest.

Can I ask you something? Yuvaan said.

Anything.

If I ever get lost in my own thoughts again… will you come find me?

Aarav smiled. I'll always find you.

Yuvaan leaned in slowly, and Aarav met him halfway. Their lips touched gentle, unsure, but full of feeling. It wasn't dramatic. It was quiet, like everything between them had always been leading to this moment.

When they pulled back, Yuvaan laughed softly. That was my first kiss.

Mine too, Aarav said, smiling.

They looked at each other, and something settled between them. A promise. A beginning.

The stars above sparkled brighter, as if the sky itself was celebrating their moment.

Let's stay like this a little longer, Yuvaan said.

Aarav nodded. As long as you want.

And so they stayed, side by side, hearts open, hands joined, and the rooftop became their little world safe, warm, and full of love.
