Chapter 1 - Prologue

DAY 1

"Subject #9786" a male voice called out as he stared at the clipboard in his hand, his eyes slowly raking over it before lowering it and looks at a female in her mid-teens strapped against a metal table. "it says here that your name is Ruby Rose?" He said, going over to the strap table "Born and raise in a place called patch? abandoned at the age of 8 and found unconscious in the same village that got destroyed by Grimm." He stated as he laid the clipboard down with a soft, deliberate click, the sound swallowed by the cavernous room. A tray of glinting, vicious tools was laid out beside it.

"Now 13 and alone, I wonder how you made it this far" he added. The girl whimpered "They... they didn't abandoned me...they wouldn't." Ruby pulled on the straps around her wrists.."we got...separated... there was too many of them.. grimm.. too many to fight.. we got separated.. I lost them...I- " tears spilled down ruby's cheeks as she closes her eyes to try and stop them from spilling further.

"please...let me go...they're looking for me... they have to be looking for me.."

The doctor shakes his head "Either way... You are mine now" The man in the white coat smiles "Now then, The legend says Grimm only attack those with fear in their hearts. Let's find out if that's true for you."

He walked over towards the table and reached out to stroke her hair... The latter flinched at the touch, "Don't worry, my child... soon I will make you into a bring that will even shake Grimm to their core.." He whispered

Just than a young assistant approached calling out the doctor's name "Dr. Merlot, we are ready to proceed" he said as he held up a syringe that looked too large for a human arm, its glass chamber filled with a thick, ominous blue substance.

Ruby's eyes widened, a flicker of pure terror finally breaking through her defiance. She pulled at the restraints, the metal straps biting into her flesh.

Dr. Merlot watched with detached fascination. 'So easy to break, aren't they? I do so hope you're different.' He nodded to his assistant.

The needle's tip, cold and sharp, pierced her skin. Ruby's scream was already on her lips as the thick liquid flowed into her, a trail of fire in her veins. It wasn't just burning; it felt like acid dissolving her very core, turning her blood to molten slag.

"It... hurts! Please... make it stop!"

Dr. Merlot simply raised an eyebrow, a sinister chuckle rumbling in his chest. "And why should I? You can help so many people.. can win so many wars if all goes well." He said, observing the girl strapped to the table. "You'll be the first of many to actually survive and serve a greater purpose. The first to help humanity." He leaned in, his voice a cruel whisper. "So, how does it feel?"

Ruby grunted, pulling against the restraints. "It...burns...please.." Tears welled in her eyes, but the doctor ignored them, jotting notes on his clipboard. "No change, then?" His words were lost to her. The world had narrowed to a single point of agony, and his voice was nothing more than a distant, buzzing sound.

"Hmm, I suppose not." He scribbled one more note: Burns from the inside, no physical change.

He pointed to a vile of shimmering green liquid, handing it to his assistant. "Another dose. Let's see what this does to a person's body."

The assistant's hand was steady as he plunged the needle into Ruby's neck. A fresh cry tore from her throat as the mysterious liquid entered her bloodstream. Her silver eyes briefly glowed before the substance replaced her tears with its sickly green hue.

Her screams echoed off the walls as her body began to convulse violently. killing off some of her cells. Finally, the shaking ceased The girl's body went still, though her shallow breaths confirmed she was still alive.

"Still alive?" Dr. Merlot smiled. "interesting. I was certain she would die from the second dose." He gestured to his assistant. "That's enough for now. Return her to her cell. We'll continue one she wakes up."

Two burly guards entered the room. They unstrapped the unconscious girl and dragged her away by the arms.

Merlot watched them go, his smile widening. "Don't you worry, my child," he whispered to the empty room. "This is only the beginning."

DAY 56

The crack of bone against flesh echoed through the sterile room. Ruby's body flew backward, her head slamming against the concrete wall with a sickening thud that split the surface. A sharp cry of pain escaped her lips as her hand flew to the back of her head, her fingers coming away slick warm with blood.

The man who hit her, a towering figure in black, simply smiled. "Come on, girly," he taunted, grabbing her by the collar and hoisting her to her feet. "Fight! Let's see what you're made of!"

He slammed a fist into her gut, dropping her to her knees. As she gasped for air, he kneed her in the face. A guttural groan tore from her throat as she collapsed, her hand covering her nose, blood gushing between her fingers. Her vision blurred and her breathing grew shallow. She was going to pass out.

Before the darkness could claim her, a sharp knock on the glass panel caught the man's attention. Standing on the other side, Dr. Merlot took notes on his clipboard, his expression cold and detached.

"That will be quite enough," the doctor stated, his voice calm and precise. "She can barely keep going."

He gestured to the two other men in black who had just entered the sealed room. "Take her to the table. Let's test the new serum I've developed."

Ruby was too dazed to resist as they each grabbed an arm and dragged her to the table, strapping her back down. An assistant held up a syringe. This time, the substance inside was different from the others. It was a thick, viscous red, and something black writhed within the liquid.

Ruby's vision finally cleared, and her eyes widened in terror as they locked on the syringe. Her body shook with a fear deeper than any pain she had endured.

"W-what is that?" she choked out, her voice barely a whisper.

Merlot's sinister grin widened, "This, my child, was extracted from Grimm parts," he revealed, his voice filled with an unsettling glee. "A mix with human blood. I just couldn't resist."

His chilling laughter sent a shiver down Ruby's spine. With a single nod from the doctor, the assistant moved the needle closer. Ruby tried to struggle, but her wrists and ankles were bound tight. There was no escape.

A scream tore from her throat as the needle pierced her skin. The strange substance glowed, and the black, slithering tendrils began to pulse beneath her skin. Her palms sweating as her eyes flashed blood red. Black goo erupted from her mouth, coating her face and forming a pulsing mask of red and white.

The assistant stumbled back in horror, calling out to the doctor. "D-doctor?!" he stammered, his eyes wide with fear, but Dr.Merlot was already on the other side of the sealed door, a cruel smile on his face.

The assistant rushed to the door, pounding on the glass. "Doctor, please! Open the door!"

His pleas were cut short by an ear-piercing shriek from behind him, followed by the sickening sound of flesh ripping. He turned slowly, his eyes widening. Ruby stood behind him, a clawed hand gripping his throat. He hadn't even seen her move.

Her once black hair was now streaked with red, and her glowing eyes burned with a primal rage beneath the grotesque mask of pulsing white and red. The assistant's screams were cut short as her hand squeezed, the crack of his neck echoing through the room.

"Fascinating," Dr. Merlot whispered, a look of pure delight on his face. "I believe we've made a new discovery."

A feral howl tore through the air. "Put her down and sedate her," the doctor ordered the man in black. He hit a red button, and a hissing sound filled the room. Ruby pounded against the reinforced glass with no effect, but the banging grew weaker as yellow smoke filled the room. She fell to her knees, the mask of goo receding into her skin before she collapsed, finally unconscious.

"Now the real fun begins," Dr. Merlot said to himself, a triumphant laugh escaping his lips as he watched them drag her away.

DAY 110

"Tie her down! Damnit, restrain her before she hurts someone!" a voice shouted. Ruby's eyes fluttered open as something tight clamped around her wrists. She tugged against the restraints, her gaze unfocused.

A low growl rumbled in her throat. Her vision was a blur of red, and the taste of blood coated her tongue. Spitting out a chunk of flesh, she watched it land with a sickening splat on the floor--an ear. A nurse next to it screamed, clutching the side of her head. "She bit me!" that woman shrieked, pain lacing her voice as another man in black hurried her away.

Ruby thrashed against the restraints, her growls intensifying. The struggle tore at her skin, creating bloody gashes on her wrists. She wasn't human anymore. Her hair was now black with red tips, her skin pale. Her eyes were swirling mix of silver and red, and her nails had sharpened into claws. Dr. Merlot watched, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. The girl was a work of art.

Before she could cause any more damage, a new assistant approached and sedated her. The girl's body went limp, her head thudding against the cold metal table. "That's a good girl," the doctor cooed, stroking her head as if petting an animal. "Rest up. We have big plans for you today."

"Take her to the pit," he ordered.

A few minutes later, Ruby was dropped into a deep, dark hole. A steel gate clanged shut above her, trapping her underground. Groaning, She rubbed her head and slowly sat up, her eyes adjusting to the darkness. A low growl echoed through the shadows as she took a step forward. She froze, her gaze fixed on the pitch-black void. The only light was a pair of glowing red eyes staring back at her.

Swallowing, she stumbled backward, tripping over a rock. The creature emerged from the shadows, its eyes piercing her. it was huge, dark, and resembled a werewolf. Ruby instantly recognized it as a Creature of Grimm. But this one was different; it was larger than the ones she had seen before, and its body was tinged with green. Spikes ran down its back, glowing with an eerie greenish-white light.

A voice crackled over a speaker. "Like my creation? it's still a work in progress, but it takes my orders. Now then, let's begin. Grimm, attack!"

The creature launched at her, its claws slashing across her chest. Ruby cried out as blood sprayed everywhere. She fell to her knees, her breath coming in ragged gasps as a searing pain shot through her body.

Dr. Merlot's voice, a ghost in her mind, sounded almost disappointed. "Pity. I had hoped she would survive."

But as her blood dripped onto the cold floor, something else happened. The crimson liquid didn't just fall; it rose, coalescing in mid-air. It pulsed with a terrible power, defying gravity and logic. As the black goo from her last experiment swirled over her face and hardened into a familiar white mask with glowing red markings, "interesting.." was all he could say as her blood began to form into a sharp weapon; a Scythe, the blade forged into a crescent shape.

The Grimm growled and lunged again, but before it could strike, the weapon in Ruby's hand swung up, decapitating the creature instantly.

A wide grin spread across the doctor's face. "We did it, men. We made something extraordinary. We made our very first Hybrid."

Back on the video feed, Ruby let out a long, chilling howl. Her eyes glowed a vibrant red as the weapon disappeared and her blood began to stitch up her wounds, leaving no trace of a scar.

"Finally," he whispered to himself. "I have made something new."
