Kira
In the beginning, was the Light, and that light was the life to all. In this holy city, the Light was rejected by many, yet because of his love, he gave his life to lift the human's curse. He has promised salvation to those who seek him. And he has promised to come back with justice in his hands, wiping out all evil. Evil, such as this Empire.
The sky was orange and yellow, the sun was about to set, when Cael and I sneaked into Luz City, the capital of Guia, the 7th state of Corona Empire. Vibrant, colorful stringed flags hang from one lamp post to another. People are wearing their best clothes. The streets are packed with people going to and fro, preparing for food, buying decorations, and visiting their families and friends. People sell various fruits and flowers in the busy roads, to be offered to their Great Divine, at the Sanctuary. Today is a holiday–it's the Annual Holy Feast in Guia.
I'm back to this place that reminds me of my past as a young girl, broken, insulted, and forgotten. I used to walk these streets in fear that I would be eaten alive by the elites–Coronans, Guians… Because I was different. I don't fit in this "divine" society.
Cael and I went here to Luz City to deliver a letter to one of our comrades, Theo. Cael went around asking where he could be found.
As I waited for Cael to come back, while wearing a cloak to hide my identity, I stood beside a wall in a small alley, where various posters were plastered on its brick walls. I then read what was written.
"Ce.. le....bre..mos.. Ju.. jun.. tos.." As I point to every letter "Ah! Celebremos Juntos!"
"F.. fre.. Free.. freedom… fr.. from.. S.. Sy.. Synd.. Synds.." I struggled. "Freedom from Synds…"
"Ugh… First of all, what a lie.." I said as I let out a disappointed chuckle. I pressed my hand against the poster and smeared it. I crumpled that piece of paper, and threw it away. "Second of all, I really need to level up my reading skills… I need someone to teach me… Cael sucks at teaching…"
On the same wall, a manhunt notice can be seen pasted. It had an illustration of a serpent. All I could read of it was the word "Wanted".
"Kira!" Cael shouted out to me and quickly closed his mouth, as he appeared on the side of the alley.
"The landlord said that Theo might be around District 3…" he continues.
Cael stood with his cloak, his well kept short blonde hair and gentle blue eyes. He's about 3 years older than me, and way taller than me.
"..What??! But we're in District 1!" I aggressively complained.
Cael replied, "..I know.. It might take a while to go there by foot…" he sighed. "Well, Altaluz is after him now.. He had to move after what happened to his father.."
After a short pause he continued. "...We should get going." as he turned his back on me and walked.
"This would've been easier if we had an Ether…" I said disappointedly as I followed Cael.
"Ethers are only accessible to those in power.." Cael replied.
"Man, it sucks to be poor…"
"Material things are temporary, Kira.."
"Easy for you to say, you used to live in a palace.."
"It wasn't a palace.."
Compared to me who grew up in the streets, Cael grew up in the high class society. He used to train to become a Sanctivo, but he left all of that to join the Light's cause.
"It might take us until midnight to get there…" I said. "I volunteered to come here because I wanted to find my sister…"
"Sorry… I'll help find your sister. But for now, we have to deliver this letter to Theo. He needs to come back and help us." He replied. "The serpent's influence is alarmingly rising. We have to act fast."
"Their elixir sure is a hit.." I commented. "I heard it can heal and it gives some sort of power.."
"We should be careful talking about these things." He said sternly. "This nation is filled with two kinds of evil: the evil that is plain to see, and the evil that wears the mask of righteousness."
"...wow, you have a way with words. But you can't teach me to read.." I mockingly replied.
He laughed.
As the skies went from orange to dark blue, we walked from District 1's main plaza to District 3, looking for Theo. As the skies go dark, another form of evil rises.
