Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 - Treecko And The System

Professor Oak's Lab

Although I was a bit surprised and excited by the sudden sound in my mind. I forced myself to calm down since it was not time to study it.

After I calmed down I Pressed the button on the Pokeball to welcome my first pokemon.

The Pokeball burst open in a flash of white light. The glow rippled across the ground before condensing into a small, slender shape.

When the light faded, there stood a Treecko, his tail swaying lazily, yellow eyes looking up at me with a sharp but curious gaze. His emerald green skin contrasting with the white lab gave it a shiny feeling.

Treecko blinked at me, then crossed his tiny arms, looking up and down at me as if to decide if I am a worthy trainer for him.

I crouched down to meet his eyes and say "So you are the one who will accompany me."

Treecko tilted his head then gave a small approving nod. His tail lightly thumped against the lab floor as he had decided something.

Then with a mixture of excitement and relief I stretched my hand holding the Pokeball in his direction and said "Let's take care of each other from now on Treecko."

Treecko's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Then he stepped forward and pressed the button on the pokeball. The Pokeball gave a cheerful ping of acknowledgement, flashing green for a moment then dimming again.

"I see so that's your answer." I said with a relieved tone.

Treecko smirked, tail swishing, and I knew it was not some one way acknowledgement but both of us chose each other as our partners.

"Remarkable." Said Dr. Oak with a small chuckle, his tone carrying a mix of pride and curiosity. "It seems that this Treecko wanted to make the choice just as much as you did. Not many Pokemon take that kind of initiative right from the start."

I glanced back at him. His eyes weren't just analytical, they were filled with approval.

"That's a good sign Luna. A choice made on both sides usually means a bond that will be much stronger and carry you much farther than either of you expect." Said the professor with expectations for the future.

After enjoying the silence for a while I ask "Professor before I go, where is Alakazam?"

"Still working in the side hall, no doubt. She rarely strays far." The professor says with a warm smile.

Without hesitation I walked towards the side hall, Treecko following behind me. Down the hall I found her. Alakazam standing composed surrounded by clipboards and data tablets held up effortlessly with psychic energy.

"Alakazam." As I called her the items were gently placed on the table and a wave of psychic emotion hit me filled with reluctance and blessings for the future.

"I wanted to say goodbye and thank you before I left." After I said that she looks towards Treecko who is beside me looking up at Alakazam's imposing figure before giving an approving nod and then she goes back to her work.

After that I walked back into the main lab with Treecko following quietly at my side.

"All set?" Asked the professor flipping through a few notes at the counter.

I nodded. "Yeah. Treecko and I are ready"

"Good, Just don't forget to eat meals like you did when invested in reasearch." He says with a bit of worry and playfulness.

"I'll manage. Thank you for everything professor." I said with a hint of annoyance but certainty.

He waved his hand and said "Go on then. The journey is not going to wait for you."

I returned the wave with a smile "See you around, Professor."

And that was when the door to the lab slammed open.

"Professor! I am here. I didn't miss it right?!"

Treecko jumps to a counter startled by the sudden noise.

Ash bursts in with messy hair and still in pajamas.

"You are late Ash." I say with a hint of amusement.

"But I still made it right." He says with a hint of embarrassment.

The professor is pinching his brows with a sigh "Alarms exist for a reason Ash." With the corner of his mouth twitching.

Ash laughs awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "I guess I overslept again."

"Some things never change." I said with a light smile. As Treecko lands by my side and I comfort him.

"Yeah well at least I got here in time." Says Ash trying his best to hide his embarrassment.

"Barely." I said with teasing tone. "Don't keep the professor waiting. I will see you around Ash."

"Yeah. See you later Luna." He said enthusiastically.

After that I left the lab with Treecko to avoid the incoming chaos.

Outside Oak Labs

I stepped out of the lab with Treecko on my shoulder. At the gate was standing Ash's Mom, Delia Ketchum, with a backpack and a change of clothes in her hand.

"Good morning Luna. Heading out already?" She asks with a gentle smile.

"Morning Mrs. Ketchum." I replied while gesturing towards Treecko. " Yeah, Treecko and I are ready"

"It seems like you are already good partners" She says observing Treecko.

"I am just waiting for Ash." She added. "He left in such a rush in the morning."

"That sounds like him." I say amused.

"Travel safely, Luna."

"Thanks Mrs. Ketchum." Saying that I walked towards the exit of Pallet Town.

Route 1

As I stepped passed the sign saying Route 1 with Treecko following by my side. I was greeted with green meadows spreading wide and a forest I can barely see in the distance. You could hear the sounds of Pidgey flapping their wings or rattata scurrying in the bushes.

I hadn't been walking long when a grass bush near me started to rustle hard.

Both of us stopped and Treecko narrowed his eyes to respond to the incoming danger.

After which a small purple rat jumped out of the grass.

"Rattata." I whispered excited and nervous for my first wild encounter.

The Rattata hissed and lunged forward with Tackle.

"Treecko dodge to the side."

He leaped to the side dodging the Tackle.

"Great, now use pound." I called out.

Treecko dashed forward and swung his tail against the Rattata. Who tumbled into the grass. Then stood back up and once again charged forward but faster most likely using Quick Attack.

"Use Leer" I ordered.

Treecko's eyes narrowed with intensity which impacted Rattata's confidence as he hesitated.

I ordered "Now use Absorb"

Treecko stepped forward with his palm glowing green as energy rippled for Rattata's body to his. The Rattata squealed before staggering and laying down on the grass, too weak to continue.

Silence lingered for about 20 seconds after which the Rattata stood up unsteadily and scurried back into the bushes.

Treecko straightened, brushing his hands together and flicking his tail with pride.

I laughed with my nervousness disappearing. "Great, we won our first battle."

"Great work Treecko." I said crouching down to meet his eyes.

Treecko smirked and turned his head away a bit in embarrassment.

30 Minutes Later

The road eventually narrows leading into a small which wasn't deep or suffocating like the ones I read about. The trees stood tall, not tightly packed, but spread enough that the sunlight poured freely through the canopy, scattering in golden light across the forest floor. The ground was soft with patches of moss and grass growing and some flowers that grew between the roots of the trees. Every so often the bushes rustled as wild pokemon scurried out of sight.

After thirty minutes of walking and a few battles with some eager Pidgeys and a stubborn Rattata the trail opened to a gentle stream flowing through the forest.

I knelt by the bank and dipped my hands in, splashing the cool water across my face. "How do you think this spot is for taking a small break?" I then turned my head towards Treecko who already claimed a low hanging branch above the stream and lazily swaying his tail in the water. "It seems that I have already gotten my answer."

I took a deep breath. The forest air was fresh carrying the smell of wildflowers. For the first time since leaving Pallet Town, I let myself relax.

I leaned back against the tree trunk and hesitated a bit thinking about what happened when I received Treecko' Pokeball.

Taking a slow breath I closed my eyes and said 'System' in my mind.

As I opened my eyes I saw a floating screen appear in front of me.

After reading through the system I summarised the main function of the system into 2 points.

1. You can get rewards upon completing certain milestones although I don't know what the milestones and the rewards are.

2. You can get points by battling pokemon. Stronger pokemon relative to your own pokemon give more points. Trainer pokemons give more points than wild pokemon of the same strength. You can buy stuff in the mall with points.

While reading through the system I also discovered many interesting things. Such as upgrading my space backpack or cooking set through the system to enhance them. But the most important thing was that there was still an unclaimed gift pack. 'Claim Novice Gift Pack' I say in my mind excitedly.

[Novice Gift Pack Claimed]

[System Pointsx100]

[Data Eye] - Can see the level, abilities and potential of all pokemon. Can also see moves and traits of your own pokemon.

[Advanced Breeder Knowledge] - Gives you knowledge of Advanced Breeder Level

[Potential Increase Potion] - Can increase Pokemon's potential by one stage upto champion Level.

[Mysterious Pokemon Egg] - Contains an Unknown Pokemon.

First was the system points which I am happy to get for free.

Then Data Eye. A shimmer ran through my eyes when I looked at Treecko.

[Treecko - Lv.5]

Gender: Male

Ability: Overgrow (Powers up grass moves in a pinch)

Moves: Pound, Leer, Absorb

Potential: Gym

Traits: Calm but observant

He gave me a sceptical look, tail flicking against his thigh as if to ask, 'what's so interesting?'

I smiled faintly. "Nothing you need to worry about."

The first two reward were exciting but he third one made me catch my breath

I already had the foundation of an intermediate breeder, years of experience at the lab and careful study, but the moment I accepted the [Advanced Breeder Knowledge] something deeper settled in my mind.

Suddenly, I understood how to identify subtle aura fluctuations in a growing Pokémon, how to prepare nutrient blends tailored to individual potential, even how to nurture stable conditions for rarer evolutionary triggers. These weren't things a normal breeder just learned. They were trade secrets, the kind that took decades of trial and error.

I shook my head in disbelief, sighing "This is cheating."

Treecko tilted his head to look at me from above, clearly wondering what had gotten into me. I forced a small smile and said "Don't mind me."

Then I saw the next reward on the list.

[Potential Increase Potion]

My eyes froze over it.

That name wasn't just rare. It was legendary. In breeder circles, the "Potential Increase Potion" was a pure theory, a dream written about in obscure Silph Co. research papers and old Kanto breeder theory books. A concoction said to push a Pokémon's natural limits just slightly higher. The consensus had always been clear: impossible. A fantasy. Something you might use in a novel, not in reality.

Breeders knew potential was fixed at birth, immutable. Yes, sometimes a Pokémon could break limits through evolution — surging forward as their form adapted. In rare cases, with the highest quality evolution items, a Pokémon's potential might even edge a little higher, as though the purity of the catalyst smoothed out flaws in their growth.

But to artificially raise potential directly? Every serious breeder agreed: impossible.

And yet here it was sitting in my system's inventory like it was just another potion.

"This should not exist." I whispered with heavy breaths.

Treecko once again tilted his head at me from the branch, clearly confused by my uneasiness. I gave him a shaky smile, forcing composure. "Don't worry about it."

Although I said that. He jumps down from the tree and climbs on my shoulder trying to comfort me.

'This thing is insane. If anyone found out about this the League, Silph Co. or even the Evil Team Syndicate…' I shut my eyes, forcing myself to not think about it.

After about a minute or so I took a deep breath and opened my eyes to look at the last reward. An Egg

As I confirmed the egg manifested on my lap, glowing briefly before setting into the place with surprising weight.

Treecko startled backwards at the sudden flash. His eyes wairily flicking between me and the glowing shape but as light faded to reveal the egg curiosity replaced his tension. He walked forward, cautious but eager, and stared at it with searching eyes.

The Egg gleamed softly in the sunlight falling through the canopy, silver as polished metal with markings of blue and gold spread across its shell. The surface was warm, pulsing faintly like a heartbeat.

The tightness in my chest eased as I stroked the shell.

"This is something I can understand." I whispered. Unlike the theoretical potion this was tangible, fragile and alive.

Treecko tapped the shell gently, then gave a decisive nod, his earlier wariness gone.

As I cradled the egg closer a warmth spread through me.

"No matter what else comes out of this system." I said softly "you will be my real treasure."
