The tranquil atmosphere was interrupted by the ringing tone of Lin Wei's phone. But she was so absorbed in her thought that she didn't even hear the sound.
"Wei, Wei your phone is ringing" Ming Yue gently tapped her shoulder. She could have let her continue sleeping, but she didn't know if the call was an important one.
Lin Wei sat up, bringing up her phone from her bag. It displayed "Baby" on it.
She placed the phone to her ear. "Hello.." She said, tucking a strand of hair on her face behind her ear.
"Wei, are you okay?" Lan Xian's caring voice came over the phone.
Li Wei's eyes moistened. Lan Xian was the only person that truly cared for her. Ah, and Ming Yue, her manager.
"Lan Xian, I-I am not okay" she said, her voice tinged with sobs.
"Wei, don't worry, things will be better. You have to be strong for me, okay,?" he said, his emotions reaching Li Wei from over the phone.
Hot tears rolled down Lin Wei's cheek. She was really touched by his kind words. "Hmm. I will be okay." She replied, barely keeping her voice steady.
Lin Wei kept her emotions in check, to avoid worrying him. He also has his own struggles, and it would be too overwhelming to add hers to it.
"I have to pick this coming call, stay strong dear, okay?" Lan Xian said, his voice low and soft.
"Hmm." she hummed, hanging up the call.
Sigh..
Lin Wei rested her head to the back, and snapped her eyes shut. "How many minutes more before we arrived at the company?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Thirty minutes." Ming Yue replied, hinting at the driver to reduce the speed of the car to give Lin Wei more time to rest.
"Okay." Li Wei replied, falling into a deep sleep soon after. Little did they know that today was their last peaceful day, and challenges that would shake her emotions and threaten her fragile life were coming their way.
The driver glided the car through the gate, stopping in front of the company to drop Li Wei off.
After they had alighted the car, the driver expertly maneuvered the car into the parking lot.
Li Wei stood in front of the magnificent building, the familiar logo feeling ominous to her.
Ming Yue stepped closer to her, holding her cold palm. "Don't worry, I will persuade my father to help you" she said, gently squeezing her hand.
Ming Yue had a perfect family. Her father is the chairman of Moonlight entertainment industry. And her mother, a renowned doctor in the country. Though people can't easily tell with her humble nature.
At the age of twenty three, Ming Yue had become a successful Manager, a position above her peers. However, she attained it with her strength, not by influence and connection.
She was a perfect entity, with a tall height of 5 '7, tiny waist and skinny white body. She was the envy of ladies in the company, because she attracted men that they could only fancy.
Ming Yue held Li Wei's hand firmly, "Let's go" she said, walking her into the building.
As they entered, they were met with piercy gaze, each burning with curiosity, contempt or disappointment.
They were once Li Wei's admirers. If not for the rumors, they would have crowded her as she entered, fanning over her or requesting for an autograph.
Now that she had been caught in a scandal, they distanced themselves from her, even looking at her with disdain.
Those rehearsing from afar even paused in their work, crowding over to see what she would look like right now.
Soon, they began to silently whisper among themselves.
"Tsk, tsk tsk. She still looked elegant despite being caught in a rumor, she is really shameless," one whispered, in a voice Li Wei could hear.
"Seems the rumor was true, judging by how relaxed she is," another chimed in.
Li Wei pressed her palms together, biting hard on her lower lips.
"She could have inherited the shamelessness through her parents, right?" Another added.
Ming Yue heard this, and covered her ear. "Hey, don't be affected by their words, they are only jealous of you," Ming Yue whispered into Li Wei's ear.
She gave the actress an icy gaze, who immediately shrunk back in fear.
Ming Yue glanced at everybody, silencing them before striding towards the elevator with Li Wei. But as the elevator opened, they were met by two proud pairs of eyes. Ying Yue, Li Wei's rival in the industry.
Ever since Li Wei came into the industry, she had attracted a lot of attention because of her outstanding beauty and talent. Ying Yue, once the top and unattainable actress, was affected by her appearance, and since then she had turned bitter towards Li Wei..
Ying Yue's eyes widened and her mouth splitted open wide in a booming laugh. "Wow!" She exclaimed, "I can't believe what I'm seeing right now."
She pressed the elevator bottom to stop, and she walked out, swaying her hips.
She was dressed in a tweed channel set outfit which consisted a red wool suit top. The top was paired with a red mini-skirt, boasting faux welt pocket accented with interlocking CC buttons at the front.
She swirled her black channel sequin bag, walking round Li Wei , each step creating an oppressive sound with her red high heels. She finally stood in front of Li Wei, bending her head to meet her height.
Her eyes sparked with amusement,"I was shocked to see 'our' top actress in a scandal" she said, looking deflated, "I cried non stop since morning, feeling dejected.."
"Enough.." Ming Yue interrupted, standing in-between them.
Ying Yue stared at her for a few seconds, her eyes flashing with a sharp glint. No matter how rude she was to others, she couldn't confront Ming Yue. She knew her limit, and walked away after giving Li We a second glance.
"Things won't end here" She swore as she was walking away.
As she stepped into the parking lot, she dialed a number. "Let's meet up." She said, getting into the Black Benz Mercedes car. "Mingzi star coffee shop" she ordered as the driver started the car. "Yes ma'am"
After a few minutes of driving, the car pulled up at the instant coffee shop.
After several minutes of arriving, Ying didn't show any sign of getting down, and the driver looked at her through the rearview mirror. He was conflicted as to whether to inform her or not. "We are here ma'am." He finally choked out.
Ying Yue looked up, her eyes boring a hole into the driver's neck. "I'll let it slide today," she whispered to the driver before alighting the car.
The driver shivered at the word, knowing the gravity of her words. He had once suffered at her hand, and would not want to go through it again.
See put on her eye glasses and walked into the tea shop. A woman was sitted elegantly by the window side, looking at the bustling street.
Ying Yue walked over, placing her bag on the table. "Just by seeing your face, I could tell you are Li Wei's sister," she said, sitting opposite her.
Like turned her gaze at Ying Yue, shaking her head slightly. As if to say, you this foolish sheep. "She is adopted into my family," she said, picking her coffee from the table to take a sip.
Ying Yue was slightly embarrassed, but she quickly brushed it off with a smile. "So how will you help me?" She asked.
"Take Li Wei down completely" Li Wu said, as a sharp glint flashed through her deep blue eyes.
