Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Clothes ripped off before the press conference.

Li Wei stopped in her tracks, thinking what the reason could be. Could it be because of the money she was requesting from her? But Li Wu isn't the kind to be acting that way because of money. Or…

"Li Wei, what are you standing for? let's go," Li Wu whispered, after observing that she wasn't moving after passing beside her. "Oh.." Li Wei mouthed, coming to her senses.

As they walked into the dining room, the aroma of the food wafted into Li Wei's nose, forcing her to sniffle in more. The table was filled with sumptuous meal and assorted side dishes. Each one more appetizing than the other.

Li, sitting at the head of the table looked up, quite unpleasantly, "What took you so long?"

Li Na was sitting adjacent to him on the right, and tugged at his shirt under the table. Li Wu quickly rushed forward, sitting across Li Na. "Dad, we are sorry" she murmured.

Li Wu looked up at Li Wei, patting the seat beside her. "Sister, come sit beside me," she said.

Li Wu pulled back the chair for Li Wei to sit. Li Wei hesitantly walked over and sat down, facing the appetizing delicacy.

Their maid walked over, serving the dishes onto their plate with a skilled mannerism.

Li Na's gaze moved between Li Wu and Li Wei, hesitant to speak.

"What happened to your head?" Li Na finally asked.

Li Wu quickly replied after sipping a little water, "I opened the door, not knowing she was standing behind the door, so it hit her head." she said, her gaze not leaving her meal for once.

"Better be careful.." Li grinned.

"Ah… daddy, it wasn't intentional," Li Wu grumbled, looking up. Li Wei buried her head in her food, the once appetizing food becoming sour in her mouth. She stuffed the rice in her mouth, and stood up. "I'm full." She said, pulling back the chair.

"Sit down, you have to wait till we all finish eating before you leave," Li scolded. But Li Wu held her father's left hand, "Dad, she said she is full, and moreover, she has to go to the company to resolve the scandal," Li Wei said, acting coquettish.

Li finally loosened his stern gaze, dismissing Li Wei with a slight nod. Li Wei finally breathed a sigh of relief. At least Li Wu had been a little helpful. The thought of being forced to sit and watch her family eat still sent shivers down her spine.

She walked into her room, enveloped in the familiar scent of her perfume and the soft glow of the morning light. She strode towards her wardrobe, ready to start her day. She put on a face mask, black square-shaped glasses, and a duckbill cap. Perfect. Though she looked like a hitman, it was better to dress like this than to risk being caught by her fans.

Just then, the sound of her ringing phone pierced the air, catching her attention. She walked over to the table and picked it up. The screen displayed "Manager". Li Wei didn't answer, instead logging into her WeChat account to check for any new rumors about herself. After confirming there were none, she called Ming Yue back.

Ming Yue's voice was warm and reassuring over the phone, but Li Wei detected a hint of annoyance beneath the surface. "Li Wei, I called you earlier, but you didn't pick up. I was startin g to get worried," Ming Yue said, her tone softening slightly.

Li Wei felt a twinge of guilt for not answering earlier. "Sorry, Ming Yue. I was just...distracted," she replied, trying to brush off her earlier anxiety.

Ming Yue's pause was almost imperceptible, but Li Wei sensed a flicker of curiosity. "My dad has organized a press conference for you. It's 12 noon sharp. You need to be there on time, Li Wei. This is a big opportunity for you."

Li Wei's heart swelled with gratitude. "Thank you so much, Ming Yue," she said, her voice trembling as she fought to hold back tears. The kindness in Ming Yue's voice had touched a raw nerve, and Li Wei felt a deep sense of appreciation.

She didn't know what she had done to deserve Ming Yue's kindness. Was it simply a gesture of goodwill, or was there something more to it? Li Wei's mind whirled with questions as she struggled to make sense of Ming Yue's motivations.

As Li Wei hung up the call, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. She slid into her high heels and picked up her handbag

She checked the time on her phone, her mind already racing with the tasks ahead. With a newfound sense of determination, she left her room, her footsteps light and purposeful.

But as she turned the corner, she stumbled upon Li Wu, who was leaning against the wall, watching her with a curious and amused expression of "You look like you are going to kill someone."

"I'm off," Li Wei said, brushing past Li Wu without bothering to exchange more words. Before Li Wu could ask any questions, Li Wei had already disappeared through the door.

As Li Wei hurried out of the house, she could feel her sister's eyes on her, sensing her unspoken questions. But Li Wei didn't have time to answer them, not now, when she had a press conference to prepare for. She pushed through the door and out into the bright sunlight, her heart racing with anticipation.

Li Wei slipped into her Range Rover, the soft leather enveloping her as she inserted the key into the ignition. She warmed up the engine, its gentle hum filling the air as she waited for the traffic to clear. But luck was never on her side, and she soon found herself stuck in a sea of brake lights.

Li Wei stretched her head out of the window, marveling at the endless row of cars stretching out before her. The traffic was a nightmare, and she could feel her anxiety spiking. She checked the time on her phone, her eyes widening in alarm as she realized it was already 11:00 am. The distance to the company would take at least forty minutes, and the traffic showed no signs of clearing.

"What am I going to do?" Li Wei muttered to herself, slamming her head against the steering wheel in frustration. She winced as a sharp pain shot through her bump, forgotten in her anger. She adjusted the rearview mirror to examine the damage, wincing at the noticeable swelling.

After what felt like an eternity, the traffic began to crawl forward, and Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief as she inched her way towards the company. She pulled into the parking lot, her heart still racing from her stressful drive.

The sleek glass tower rose up before her, its reflection glinting in the morning sunlight. Li Wei took a deep breath, smoothing out her dress and adjusting her mask as she prepared to face whatever lay ahead. It was showtime.

With a surge of adrenaline, Li Wei grabbed her handbag and stepped out of the car. She took a deep breath, smoothing out her dress and adjusting her mask. It was showtime.

Meanwhile, at the riverbank, a man in black stood tall, his eyes fixed on the lifeless body before him. Disgust and disappointment etched his face as he hissed, "Foolish. How could you have committed suicide over a little problem? You've disgraced us all."

The avenger's eyes seemed to bore into Lan Xian's soul as he spoke. "If Master hadn't commanded me to help you, I would have sent you to eternal hell straightaway." He grinned, a cold, mirthless smile.

As the avenger disappeared into Lan Xian's body, Li Wei rushed into the company, her high heels clicking on the tiled floor. She was running late, and her heart was racing with anxiety. She hurried into the dressing room, meeting the expectant gazes of the staff.

Ming Yue smiled warmly as Li Wei approached. "You're almost late. Fortunately, Dad didn't come to the company today, or he would have been angry." Li Wei nodded in agreement, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of the chairman.

A worker bowed slightly as she entered. "The meeting is starting in five minutes." Li Wei's heart skipped a beat as she felt a surge of adrenaline. She was ready to face whatever lay ahead.

Ming Yue pulled Li Wei's shoulder to sit on the leather seat, in front of the mirror. She motioned the makeup artist to come over, "Let her give your face a light touch," she said, stepping back for the artist.

After two minutes, her face was perfectly made up. Her face was stunning already on its own, with a sharp jawline. With a little refinement, she became a beautiful swan.

"Perfect!" Ming Yue clapped her hand, her face beaming with a sweet smile. Li Wei stared at the mirror, stunned by her own beauty. Sigh. She stood up, but she heard a tearing sound.

"Ah…" Li Wei looked at her clothes from behind, shocked by the unexpected accident. She didn't know that her clothes had been hooked by the sharp edge of the chair. So as she stood up, it ripped her cloth off.
