Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Racing off to ‘save’ a soul

Just as her hand was about o touch Li Wei's face, light began to flicker on her face, as reporters appearee from different angles. She froze in place, her foot rooted to the floor.

"Miss Li Wei, is this your true color?" One asked,

"Yes, have you always maintained an identity of a gentle and responsible lady, but your actions just now proved to to be the opposite, can you please clear the air?" Another asked.

Li Wu's eyes flashed with calculation as she stepped forward, played her card. Hee shimmered with tears as she looked at the reporters. "Please do not distort my sister's identity, she is still as noble as she used to," she paused, rubbing off her face, "Though she used to threaten me to arrange men for her at hotels, I believe she has her reasons.." The reporters burst erupted into frenzy of questions and camera clicks.

After the noise had sank down a little, she continued, "she is the breadwinner onour family, and I have to respect her because all my living expenses depends on her. Even if when she lashes out on me, I accept it because it is a normal thing for an understanding sister. Please don't.. don't" She choked back a sob, tears streaming down her face.

Li Wei stepped to the front, hee anger boiling over.

Smack.

Li Wei slapped Li Wu, her voice ringing out, "This is for you trying to manipulate the audience."

As Li Wei drove away in her her car, the reporters stood still, as if they were hypnotized. Li Wu also held her burning cheek. She hadn't expected Li Wei to slap her. In front of the public.

After her car zoomed off, the reporters regained the senses. They quickly swarmed around Li Wu, feeling a pang of pity and sympathy for her. They offered kind words to her, while some whispered about her level of stupidity.

Just when Li Wei's car disappeared into the distance, Ming Yue's car pulled up.

Li Wei arrived at Lan Xian's house, her car screeching to a halt. She stood in front of the door, ringing the door bell. After waiting for a few minutes, she ring the bell again. After what felt like eternity, the door finally opened.

A woman in black came out, looking disheveled. "Mrs. Lan.." Li Wei bowed slightly. "Ah. Wei, how are you?" Rose asked, her voice lacking it's usual humour. "Come in.." she said, stepping aside for her to enter.

Aa soon as Li Wei settled down, she asked of Lan Xian. But she received silence instead. Then low sobs. What is going on?

"Mrs. Lan, what happened?" Li Wei called out, holding her shoulder. Rose picked up the white envelope on the table, giving it to Li Wei.

Li Wei felt a sense of foreboding wash over her as she brought out the letter in the envelope. As she began to read, her face turned paler and paler. After she finished reading the letter, she shivered, and she felt dizzy. She held Mrs. Lan's face, her face shimmering with tears, "This letter is not real right?" She asked hoping for a positive answer.

But Mrs. Lan shood her heard, confirming the letter was true. Li With suddenly stood up, walking out of the house. "Wei…. Wei" Mrs. Lan called out weakly, feeling something was off about her leaving. But Li Wei didn't look back, and hot into her Range Rover SUV.

As she inserted the key into the ignition, she heard the sound on her ringing phone. It was an incoming call from "Crazy Director." She saved his name with that because he offered to help her with the rumors in exchange for a night with her which she refused. Since then, he had been threatening to run her career if she didn't succumb to his wishes..

"Hello…" She said, his sharp voice came over the phone,"Wei, you have one hour, or I will…."

"Release it…" she hung up the call afterwards.

Director: '....'

She inhaled a sharp breath and declared, "Lan Xian, hang in there, we would reunite soon…" Her car sped off, heading to her final destination.

Meanwhile, the avenger was lying on the floor, disheveled and wincing in pain. "Hiss…is their hand made of steel?" He tried to get up but the pain washed over him, forcing him to think twice.

"Haha….my proud discipline is finally caught in a dilemma" A soft, menacing chuckle drifted from above his head. He doesn't need to turn his head to know that it was his master. "Master…" he grumbled, acting coquettish. That was his golden card to obtain mercy from his master, but it didn't work this time around.

"Scoff…" the old man walked to the front. All his hair was white, and he has little winkles on his face, but didn't bent, nor did his voice shake like every other old people.

"I'm here to tell you the punishment of your sin," he stated, his voice low yet firm, "You must condemn a soul to he within three months or you will be completely trapped in this body forever….."

"Hiss, such a simple task" The avenger suddenly became energised, standing up to his feet. "But you must seek the soul's consent.." The old man said.

"Very simple," The avenger added, unfazed by the words.

"However, as a good master, I'll give you a hint, since you can't fully use your power now. A human is going to the edge of the cliff to commit suicide right now, it is the best opportunity for you…" he said before disappearing into thin air.

The avenger got to his task, not wasting any time. He couldn't wait to leave this unhealthy body. However, he son discovered the task wasn't easy.

As he met with different souls, he was met with rejection, or overbearing demands.

"I committed suicide because of my stepmother's harsh treatment, can you help me kill her"

"I'm afraid of staying alone, I will agree to be condemned to hell if you will give with me"

Scoffs..Souls that are lost from committing suicide are really demanding. Too demanding. And the time was running by. Three month in their world is like three weeks to human. What would he do?

The avenger's eyes glazed over his master's words replayed in his mind, "However, as a good master, I'll give you a hint, since you can't fully use your power now. A human is going to the edge of the cliff to commit suicide right now, it is the best opportunity for you…"

The memory sparked a suggestion of determination within him, but it was tempered by the fear of being too late. His power haf been cursed, and in this human body, his movement would be too slow.

But he held onto a glimmer of hope, racing off on a borrowed bike to 'save' a soul.
