Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: Implementation of the Second Phase of the Cosmic Cube Plan

The Tesseract is the container for the Space Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By crushing it, one can access the Space Stone within.

The Tesseract was originally in the hands of the Asgardians. After the great war between Asgard and the Frost Giants on Earth in ancient times, Odin stored the Tesseract on Earth because Asgard already possessed two Infinity Stones at the time. Asgard believed that two Stones should not be kept together, as this would attract covetous eyes. Although Asgard was already very powerful, there were too many madmen in the Universe, so Asgard chose to store the two Stones separately.

Later, the Tesseract fell into the hands of Red Skull of HYDRA and was used by HYDRA to develop many era-transcending energy weapons. After Red Skull was defeated by Captain America, the Tesseract was acquired by S.H.I.E.L.D. and researched by a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists. Director Fury even wanted to emulate Red Skull by researching energy weapons using the Tesseract.

He then invited Dr. Erik Selvig, one of Thor's three good companions on Earth, to assist him in his research. During the research, the Tesseract's energy remained very unstable. Finally, Loki utilized the unstable energy around the Tesseract, and with the help of the Mind Stone, another Infinity Stone, he sensed the Tesseract's location and opened a Teleportation portal to its position.

In Noah's recent perception, the Tesseract's energy seemed to have already begun to destabilize. If Thanos intended to invade Earth, he would most likely make his move in the near future, and Noah needed to prepare in advance.

As for whether the Chitauri invasion of New York would destroy the city and cause widespread death, Noah wasn't sure. He wasn't a great sage who cared for the World. The Chitauri invasion was a good thing for him because it could bring him high-level missions, and he might even get Chitauri spacecraft.

As for the citizens of New York City, in the free U.S., there are gunfights every day. Noah believed that with the fierce folk customs of the U.S., they should be able to protect themselves. Noah could only wish them good luck. Just kidding, according to the movie's plot, the Chitauri army was limited by the size of the portal opened by the Tesseract and could not all invade Earth directly; they could only pass through the tunnel little by little to New York's skies.

Noah was still confident that he could eliminate all those scattered Chitauri before the spatial tunnel expanded, not to mention that the Avengers would be assisting then. If he evacuated civilians beforehand, wouldn't the matter be perfectly resolved? He would complete his high-level mission, and New York wouldn't suffer much.

Of course, the specific situation would have to be seen after the events unfolded. After all, the plot had already changed; Loki was already in prison. Who would come was still unknown, but Noah thought it might be Thanos's Black Order, as in the movie, Thanos seemed to have no other trusted subordinates besides them.

"When soldiers come, block them; when Water comes, cover it with Earth. Thinking too much now is useless. Let's finish today's mission first." Noah thought. He was quite confident in his strength now, because Thanos wouldn't appear so early, and his subordinates should be easy to defeat. Noah decided not to think so much for now; he hadn't finished his mission for today.

For the past four days, he had completed one C-level mission each day, earning 400 essence points. Since nothing major happened, he could only farm the small monsters in Hell's Kitchen.

'Sizzle~' (Teleportation portal opens)

"Ah!!" (Screaming sound)

[Mission complete, essence +100]

'Sizzle~' (Teleportation portal closes)

In no time, Noah completed the mission, gaining 100 essence and a few sinful souls.

[Current essence: 3500 points]

"Hmm, after the Battle of New York, I should have enough for another 10-pull."

After closing his inventory, Noah began his busy day.

----------------------

Inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. office, Director Fury sat in his chair, his dark face expressionless, but the way he rubbed his brow showed he was somewhat tired and troubled. He had already arranged Captain America's daily affairs and attended a World Security Council meeting.

Too many changes had occurred in the World recently, and he was a bit overwhelmed. Although the government had temporarily put aside the matter of Iron Man, the newly emerging superhero, Swift Wind Swordsman, was now required by the higher-ups to have S.H.I.E.L.D. investigate his identity. Of course, he knew Swift Wind Swordsman's identity, but he couldn't expose it. After all, Noah was powerful and possessed an intelligent AI whose technological level was far ahead of the World, not to mention a powerful and unknown organization behind him. He didn't want those foolish politicians to do anything suicidal.

Besides the Swift Wind Swordsman matter, the appearance of Thor and Loki also brought them a lot of trouble. The appearance of these two Norse gods indicated that the Norse mythological power of Asgard, which was behind them, also existed. After S.H.I.E.L.D.'s information was sent up, the World Security Council, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s superior, ordered them to understand Asgard's situation.

This put Director Fury in a difficult position. How could they figure it out? He didn't know how to get to Asgard, only that their mode of transportation, the Bifrost Bridge, could Teleport across the Universe. He knew nothing else. Director Fury had also sent Agents to inquire with Thor's three friends who had been to Asgard, and the conclusion they got was that Asgard's banquets were very fun, and nothing else. Were they supposed to give their Agents a copy of "Asgardian Fairy Tales" and use that to research Asgard?

Director Fury could only express his helplessness and truthfully report to the World Security Council. However, Director Fury also had his own ideas about the current situation. He had formulated a plan long ago to gather talented individuals on Earth to form a powerful team specifically to resolve various crises and protect Earth. With Captain America's discovery, his plan's members were almost complete.

However, the World Security Council did not adopt his suggestion; instead, they ordered him to re-execute the second phase of the Tesseract project, which was the research and development of energy weapons. So, he could only put the Avengers Initiative on hold for now and first seek suitable talent to research the Tesseract. There was nothing he could do; S.H.I.E.L.D.'s funding depended entirely on the higher-ups, so he had to respect their opinions, but he hadn't given up on the Avengers Initiative either.

So, he was simultaneously conducting research on the Tesseract and preparing for the execution of the Avengers Initiative. He now had a lead on the talent for the research project: Erik Selvig, one of Thor's three Earth friends. He had profound expertise in the field of space, making him very suitable for Tesseract research.

Thinking of this, Director Fury called Coulson and instructed him to handle this matter.

"Coulson, I'm entrusting this matter to you."

"No problem, Director," Coulson said. Next, he inquired about his idol.

"Director, how is Captain doing now?"

"Steve? His emotions have stabilized for now. What, do you want to see him?" Director Fury asked. Roger's emotions were much calmer now than when he first woke up, but he was still not quite adapted to the greatly changed World.

"No, I'll visit Captain Roger after he adapts to his current life," Coulson said. Although he was a fan of Captain America, he didn't want to disturb him at this time.

Coulson left to find Erik Selvig and bring him to the S.H.I.E.L.D. secret research Base. Director Fury rested his chin on his hands, continuing to ponder certain matters. There was actually one more thing that bothered him, which was the mole Noah had mentioned earlier. Although he had started investigating after learning about the mole, he still had no leads. If there was still no progress, he planned to use his secret methods to investigate this matter.

Director Fury's eyes flickered as he considered his next plan.

In a short period, he surprised his teacher twice.
