That person… who was he again?
Mu Yang checked the record of people joining and leaving the group chat and found an unfamiliar name. The gap between joining and leaving was only twenty or thirty minutes.
A man both lucky and unfortunate.
Mu Yang sighed softly, his consciousness withdrawing from the chat as the scattered focus in his pupils gradually returned.
It was already deep into the night. His gaze swept around…
A layer of fallen leaves—not too thick, not too thin—covered the ground. Towering trees with lush, dense foliage rose skyward, together forming a thriving forest. Layer upon layer of interwoven branches blocked the moonlight from filtering in, making the woods gloomy and dark.
A cold wind howled, its mournful sound sweeping through the forest. Branches swayed with the gusts, and the occasional moonlight that slipped through flickered like ghostly shadows, creating an eerie atmosphere.
His vision rose higher as he surveyed the surroundings from above…
More scenery poured into Mu Yang's sight. The three of them were halfway up a mountain.
The slope here was relatively gentle, with all sides covered in dense forest. No other mountains were nearby. At the foot of the slope, south and north respectively, sat two villages, with cultivated fields surrounding them.
Farther beyond…
Vast green meadows, rolling mountains, winding rivers, and villages and towns built along mountains and water…
A dozen seconds later, Mu Yang withdrew his gaze and was just about to speak when Ōtsutsuki Kaguya spoke first.
"Let's look around tomorrow."
With that, Ōtsutsuki Kaguya waved her hand. Chakra turned into wind blades and shredded every tree within a twenty-meter radius into powder, clearing out a bare patch of land.
She waved her hand again, and the ground rumbled as a smooth, dome-shaped slab of rock slowly rose up.
In his cat form, Black Zetsu stretched a paw into his mouth and pulled out a thumb-sized capsule. After pressing the button on it, he tossed it forward.
Poof~~~
A cloud of white smoke rose, and a delicate little house appeared before the three.
Ōtsutsuki Kaguya opened the door and walked inside.
Mu Yang muttered, "Universal Capsule," and followed her in. Yakumo Yukari, who entered last, closed the door behind her.
The space inside wasn't large—one bedroom, one living area, one bathroom.
The living room was brightly lit. On the left were a sofa and a coffee table; on the right, a kitchen and refrigerator.
The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and seasonings. The fridge was filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. But the person with the best cooking skills in the room was Mu Yang—and the dish he was best at was instant noodles.
The kitchen became purely decorative. The three decided to order takeout instead, and each went into the shop interface to buy food they liked.
.........
Rustle…
In the mountains, yellowed leaves carpeted the ground. Rocks were covered in moss. A cold wind swept through the forest, pushing around old, brittle leaves that might have fallen who knows how many years ago, stirring dust as it blew. A desolate, chilly atmosphere pervaded everything.
A man with a katana at his waist walked steadily forward, advancing against the mountain wind.
He wore extremely long, dense black sideburns and had his hair tied in a high ponytail. His thick black hair, purple serpent-patterned kimono, and black hakama fluttered in the wind.
Rumble…
A brief sound echoed from the distance. The man with the katana turned toward it, and a bright flash of light pierced into his vision.
"What a bright light… doesn't seem like fire!"
His deep voice carried a note of surprise. Curiosity stirred, the man changed direction and ran toward the source of the light.
Whoosh, whoosh…
The sound of a fast-moving body cutting through the air.
The black-haired samurai could see clearly even at night—darkness couldn't hinder his sight. With his left hand gripping the sheath, he leapt seven or eight meters in a single step, jumping swiftly between trees, avoiding jagged rocks scattered across the mountainside and crossing tree roots twisting in all directions… rapidly approaching the source of the light.
A minute or two later, the samurai's breathing remained steady, not a hint of fatigue. Standing beside a tree, he quietly observed the house not far away.
Through the glass window, he could faintly make out the inside—delicate furniture, two women and one man eating, and a black cat squatting on the carpet beside the coffee table.
A house delicate enough to stand out even in a modern city was sitting here in the wild mountains. No matter how you looked at it, something was off.
"…A Blood Demon Art?"
The black-haired samurai frowned and muttered.
Blood Demon Arts came in all forms—anything was possible. There were demons whose abilities could conjure houses… that wouldn't even be strange.
However… the scent of demons differed from that of humans.
The smell carried to him by the wind was unmistakably human—no trace of demon scent.
Which meant… the three inside that house were living humans, not demons.
And the house itself was real, not created by a Blood Demon Art.
Then… why was such an exquisite house in the middle of nowhere, and why were the furnishings inside so unusual?
Maybe some rich folk had built it for fun… but maybe not…
So what exactly was going on?
"…How curious."
As the saying goes, great skill brings great confidence. The black-haired samurai suddenly felt a strong urge to investigate. With his left hand gripping the sheath and his right hand reaching across to hold the hilt, he stepped toward the door. The blade of his katana slid inch by inch out of the sheath.
Shing~~!
The crisp sound of metal scraping echoed through the silent night. Inside the house, the black cat's ears twitched. It ran to the door and melted into a puddle of liquid, slipping out through the crack beneath the door.
The black-haired samurai stopped one meter before the entrance and took a deep breath, revealing lung capacity that could put most people to shame. He slowly raised a katana covered in eyes all along its blade and hilt. One after another, crescent moon blades began to manifest along the sword's edge.
"Breath of the Moon, Third Form—Loathsome Moon, Chains!"
The samurai recited silently. Stepping forward with his right leg, he swung twice in succession, unleashing two crescent-shaped blade winds, followed by numerous moon blades of varying sizes around them.
The blade winds, accompanied by moon blades, flew toward the door.
At that moment, a black curtain rose from the ground, blocking their path.
Despite their tremendous destructive force, the blade winds failed to tear through the curtain. The samurai was startled and immediately attempted to leap back.
But the moment the thought formed, he realized his body was no longer responding. He couldn't move according to his will.
A black liquid had spread across the ground without him noticing and reached his feet, now climbing past his calves.
The curtain that blocked his attack was merely a portion of this black liquid.
"I can feel you resisting. Don't waste your strength. You may not be human, but you still can't escape my—"
The black liquid climbed to the samurai's left shoulder and condensed into an abstract face, grinning wickedly as it spoke.
Mental fusion—one of Black Zetsu's specialties—allowed him to control the will of anyone he possessed.
"Heh heh…"
Black Zetsu continued his wicked laughter, manipulating the samurai's body as he pulled open the door and walked inside.
