Chapter 1: Marvel and Mercenaries
At ten o'clock at night, New York under the darkness was still like a city that never sleeps.
Neon lights illuminated everything, making it brightly visible even in the night sky.
A tall, handsome man in a black cloak was flying at a low altitude, a hundred meters above the night sky.
He was extremely fast but did not attract anyone's attention, as if his entire being had merged into the night.
In New York, there was a very conspicuous building, marked with the English words Stark Industries.
The man looked deeply at the building; it wasn't the first time he had seen this iconic structure.
But no matter how many times he saw it, this landmark building and its owner, Tony Stark, reminded him.
This was not the World he had lived in during his previous life, but the Marvel Universe, full of dangers, superheroes, and various supernatural powers.
If he were just an ordinary person without any power, he would have to consider hiding far away.
After all, New York in the Marvel Universe was not a place for ordinary people.
And not only could ordinary people not stay here, they also had to pray that in a few years, they wouldn't be wiped out by some purple sweet potato snapping his fingers.
Fortunately, in this life, he was not an ordinary person without the ability to protect himself.
He awakened the League of Legends Void System, giving him some self-preservation abilities in this dangerous World.
The man flew for a while and then landed directly in front of a luxurious Villa in Brooklyn.
The man skillfully opened the door with a key and walked inside.
At this moment, the man's phone vibrated rapidly.
The man took out his phone and saw a series of new text messages.
The messages read: "God of Death, after deducting five percent of the handling fee, the remaining money has been safely transferred to your account. We look forward to our next cooperation."
"Dear Mr. Harvey Anberaka, Zero Technology Company has transferred 14.25 million to your account."
"Your current balance is 163.24 million."
Harvey Anberaka smiled when he saw this.
A string of zeros in the account would make anyone feel happy.
In his previous life, the man's name was Chu Wei, a genuine Heavenly Dynasty citizen.
In this life, his name was Harvey Anberaka, and he was an orphan.
The only person who had shown him some kindness was the Dean of the orphanage.
Although life in the orphanage was not rich or smooth, it allowed him to grow up successfully.
Because he awakened the System two years ago, he received help from the League of Legends Void System and gained the power of Void Predator Kha'Zix, one of the Void races.
This gave him the ability to become invisible by merging into darkness. As long as he was in a place with Shadow, he could freely become invisible, use blades that could easily cut through steel, possess astonishing physical attributes, and almost abnormal jumping ability.
Harvey also gained the long lifespan of the League of Legends Void race, and most importantly, he acquired the ability to absorb all energy-containing substances and thereby Evolve.
With his power, Harvey Anberaka naturally did not fear or hide his abilities.
This was the Marvel Universe, and as an ordinary person without power, he could die at any time in the future due to accidental disasters caused by battles between heroes.
Therefore, his first thought was how to make money and improve his life.
With his nearly permanent invisibility, he could silently enter any place in the darkness.
He did possess the ability to directly rob various rich people or even banks, but that was illegal.
It wasn't that Harvey couldn't expose his identity, but he didn't want to constantly deal with the FBI.
Ultimately, Harvey Anberaka chose to become a mercenary.
As long as the price he wanted was met, he would accept and execute the mission.
Depending on the mission, this profession could be called an assassin or a bodyguard.
Although this was also illegal in some sense, it would not affect his daily life.
After more than two years as a mercenary, his life had greatly improved.
He bought many Villa estates in full, and he could also directly buy all sorts of food and items he wanted with money, thereby allowing him to Evolve better.
As for the orphanage, he donated one million to repay that kindness.
It wasn't that he couldn't give more money, but that kindness was not something that required repaying with his life or forever.
So Harvey Anberaka felt that one million was enough to repay the kindness of those few years.
Even in darkness, Harvey could see more clearly than in White.
Harvey walked through the long corridor, came to the living room, turned on the lights, took out a bottle of fine wine from the wine cabinet, and sat on the luxurious sofa.
He poured himself a glass of fine wine, then picked up the tablet placed beside him, entered a certain dark website, and started browsing.
There were various missions, such as assassinating or protecting a certain important person, or even destroying a certain place.
Harvey would consider taking any mission except those involving the assassination of Asians, even those from the Military.
The Military of various countries naturally had many things that could not be done openly.
Where there are bright deeds, there will be unbearable darkness accompanying them.
The Military of various countries and some wealthy individuals needed proxies to handle certain dark affairs, and these proxies were undoubtedly mercenaries like them, who risked their lives for money.
Harvey looked at some of the missions posted on the dark web until he found a special mission.
The mission was to go to Afghanistan a month later to kill a person from the Military, with a minimum reward of ten million, and a maximum of fifty million depending on the completion of the mission.
When Harvey saw the location of this mission and how well the person who posted the bounty understood the target's itinerary, he looked at the year 2008 in the bottom right corner of the tablet and immediately knew who the target of this bounty was.
Even though the mission explicitly required killing someone under the Military's protection, and the high bounty could reach fifty million, it proved that this job was far from ordinary.
But there would always be many desperate people in the World who risked their lives for money.
It's no exaggeration to say that a maximum bounty of fifty million meant that even with multiple people working together, they could retire safely after completing this one job.
Harvey would have to do several jobs to match this one, but he didn't consider taking it.
Instead, Harvey, knowing that Tony Stark was about to begin his Iron Man journey, was thinking about which of his properties still needed insurance.
Harvey had been a mercenary for over two years, and except for the very beginning, he had mostly taken large jobs, accepting anything as long as the price was right.
Naturally, besides this Villa, he didn't just have 160 million in savings.
In fact, ever since he knew this was the Marvel Universe and gained his abilities, Harvey had been preparing.
Buying shares in Stark Industries, purchasing various properties, and setting up a series of insurances.
He knew that after Tony Stark became Iron Man, New York would quickly become dangerous, which also meant it was time to make money.
As long as he was prepared, he could not only legitimately claim a large amount of money from insurance companies but also fleece Tony Stark.
And the price he would pay was merely moving to one of his other Villas in another city for a period of time.
Thinking of the large amount of money he would soon have, Harvey couldn't help but smile.
The Iron Man job was out of the question. As Harvey continued to browse other bounty missions, a private message arrived.
"Mr. God of Death, we have a specific mission for you."
Harvey looked at the message thoughtfully.
Among mercenaries, designated missions were not common, but if one's reputation was great enough and mission completion rates were consistently high, designated jobs would occasionally appear.
Moreover, the remuneration for designated missions was often very generous, as it was calculated according to the mercenary's self-set rules.
The assassination mission of an Afghanistan official he had just completed was a large job worth twenty-five million.
"Since you found me, you should know the price for designating me, right?"
So Harvey responded.
Meanwhile, on the other side, a bald black man with an eye patch saw the response and noticed that this God of Death did not ask about the specifics of the mission but directly inquired whether the price was clear. From this, he felt an unparalleled confidence, even arrogance.
Nick Fury had, of course, investigated this God of Death before making contact.
In the mercenary World, no one knew who the mercenary codenamed God of Death really was, or what he looked like. Only a few things were widely known.
God of Death joined the mercenary World two years ago under the codename God of Death, always appearing in a black cloak. This God of Death only took large jobs exceeding ten million, and his strength was unbelievably high.
Bounties exceeding ten million were undoubtedly high-value, large jobs that required risking one's life to complete.
Many mercenaries, even when collaborating with other teams, could not guarantee 100% completion and might suffer a crushing defeat.
After all, sometimes they might face an entire Military of thousands of fully armed soldiers.
Or they might have to infiltrate a facility with layers of defenses to steal top-secret documents.
Some missions were difficult to ensure completion even for his Agents working together.
But this God of Death, no matter what large job he took, could complete it 100%.
No matter how vigilant the target was, how many troops were deployed to set up strict defenses, or what protection they were under, as long as this God of Death accepted the mission, the target would mysteriously die in the darkness, and information would quietly disappear, as if he possessed some kind of superpower.
It's no exaggeration to say that God of Death appeared in the mercenary World and, in just over two years, became a legend known to everyone in the mercenary World.
There was also a rumor in the mercenary World: as long as your bounty was accepted by God of Death, you could leisurely drink fine wine and wait for your objective to be achieved.
It was precisely because of these legendary deeds and the rumors of seemingly supernatural abilities that reached Nick Fury's ears.
This made Nick Fury curious and want to meet God of Death.
However, despite his methods, his investigation could not find any more specific information about this God of Death beyond what was already known.
To contact God of Death, he had to set the designated mission price at a minimum of twenty million, with no upper limit depending on the mission's difficulty.
And once the other party accepted, a ten million U.S. dollar deposit had to be paid.
Twenty million, that was U.S. dollars, not Zimbabwean currency.
However, Nick Fury also knew that mercenaries were desperate individuals, and double-crossing them was not impossible.
The prerequisite was having sufficiently strong capabilities. When facing a mercenary of unknown identity, unknown abilities, and very likely possessing superpowers, deception and double-crossing were certainly not the first methods to consider.
However, twenty million U.S. dollars, even for him to allocate, would require a lot of effort to persuade various parties and write some false plans to convince the higher-ups before it could be moved.
But if it could advance the Avengers Initiative and successfully recruit this God of Death, then Nick Fury felt that this price was not unacceptable.
After the money was ready, Nick Fury did not immediately contact God of Death.
It wasn't until the news of the mysterious Death of the Afghanistan official came tonight, and the executor was God of Death, that Nick Fury truly made up his mind and contacted God of Death through the dark web.
"I am certainly aware, and I don't know if what I am about to say will offend you."
"However, before detailing the specific mission and price, we hope to meet with you in person."
"Because the bounty mission I am about to issue is somewhat special."
Nick Fury hesitated for a moment and typed this message.
Then Nick Fury waited nervously.
No one knew God of Death's true origins, which was largely due to God of Death only appearing on the dark web.
"As long as the money is in place, time and location."
Facing this message, Harvey naturally did not refuse and responded directly.
"Then, the day after tomorrow at three in the afternoon, meet at this location. Any problems?"
Seeing God of Death's response, Nick Fury immediately sent a map location.
"Okay."
After seeing Washington, Harvey's eyes flashed, but he still agreed to the meeting.
