Chapter 50 - Chapter 50

Klein started reading the page from Roselle's diary he had gotten from Ms. Justice.

"9th August. The events of the past two days have made me feel uncomfortable. I started the Industrial Revolution with my own hands and personally ushered in the Age of Steam and Machinery, but this will create the conditions necessary for the Evil God to descend upon this world?"

What does he mean? The conditions necessary for the Evil God to descend upon this world? Klein knitted his brows, his index finger tapped on the edge of the ancient table.

Did Mr. Fool encounter a difficult problem? Anything that can trouble him must be something of another level… Audrey looked at the leader obscured by the thick fog and interpreted his state through his body language.

Klein was indeed very confused and in a complicated mood. He didn't know what this condition for summoning an evil god was. Nor was he that suicidal enough to divinate something like "how to summon your local evil God in 3 easy steps DIY edition". No. Divination wasn't just a simple google search. A fact Klein had to learn the hard way, *cough* almost getting smitten down to death by the radiance of the Eternal Blazing sun *cough*.

After a while of contemplation about the bits and pieces of information on the paper, Klein tapped on the edge of the ancient table and looked at Justice, The Hanged Man, The Sun and Amon, The Lover.

"You can start your discussion freely now."

Alger immediately said, "Mr. Fool, Miss Justice, I received a new piece of information. Rear Admiral Hurricane Qilangos infiltrated Backlund to complete a difficult mission. He might stay for an extended period of time and create an appalling tragedy. Also, I know that this incident involves a very important item, an item that would allow Qilangos to quickly become a High-Sequence Beyonder."

"Qilangos?" Amon asked with an interested quirk of his eyebrows. Of course he wasn't at all interested in this mortal who had less screen time in Klein's memories than a random squirrel on the road (which was Amon stalking him). But he had plans, and in those plans getting involved in this situation was his first step to gets things going and make them truly interesting.

Alger looked at Amon and explained, "A week ago, Rear Admiral Hurricane Qilangos infiltrated Backlund for some unknown reasons and I had asked the help of the Tarot Club to help me track him down or at least some clues to his whereabouts." He notified politely. Alger was a person who always showed someone stronger than him enough face and respect- something he had been forced to ingrain into his instincts working as a mere servant back when he was a child in the church of Storm.

Audrey wanted to cut in and ask the mysterious Mr. Lover if he was from Backlund, after all she and the rest of the Tarot club had little to no information about this newest member- even less than Little Sun who was apparently some kind of citizen to a forgotten fantasy world. But then she suddenly remembered that it was rude and probably against Mr. Fool's ideas about this gathering to ask for a member's location so she quickly shut herself up.

One couldn't be a child for too long Audrey! She was having her protagonist character development- she could FEEL it!

Thankfully, Mr. Lover decided to answer her unspoken question quite casually,

"Unfortunately, Backlund is not a place which I have access to as of the moment. So I apologize that I won't be able to lend a helping hand at the moment to track that man down." He sighed.

One might have understood that he wasn't in Backlund if he had stated it normally- why did he state it like that? Not have access to Backlund?

"You cannot enter Backlund?" Audrey finally couldn't hold her questions back and asked, she hoped that it sounded casual and well-meaning enough.

Klein also secretly glanced at Amon's direction and had more or less the answer to that question. Considering Amon's family situation of apparently being hunted down by the churches and Backlund being the literal hub of churches, it would be safe to assume that a place like Backlund would be incredibly dangerous for someone with Amon's identity.

"Unfortunately yes," Amon let out a sigh. "Just entering one step would alert every single Backlund Church about my location." On seeing the flabbergasted expressions of Ms. Justice and The Hanged Man, he let out a chuckle, "Not like I don't have ways to infiltrate secretly." There was a reason he still kept his clones.

Alger and Audrey still looked a little interested and a bit fearful. Who was this person who was chased by all of the churches? For something like that he must be very strong... and to think someone like this is in their Tarot gathering? As expected of Mr. Fool's... fiance? Praise The Fool!

Audrey observed for a moment and when she understood that Mr. Lover wasn't going to speak anymore she continued what she had been meaning to ask for a while,

"Quickly become a High-Sequence Beyonder? Does he not fear losing control of himself?" she asked, adopting the posture of a Spectator.

A high sequence Beyonder was considered a Beyonder above sequence 4, and The Hanged Man had mentioned that the man was a sequence 6. Jumping from that to directly the level of a demigod was simply insane and asking for insanity.

The Hanged Man nodded and continued to explain about Qilangos, his apparent goals, and his basic habits and mannerisms to help Ms. Justice find him.

Finally, that discussion ended and Klein was about to end the meeting when he saw that Amon had raised his hand to speak.

He nodded at Amon, making the man smile as he stared his request.

"I have a rather personal question to ask." Amon said with a smile and then revealed a somber expression visible even through the grey fog, "It seems like my fiance has completely forgotten about our upcoming marriage. What do I do?"

Klein, "?!"

Three pairs of eyes landed on The Fool who was busy panicking.
