Both Audrey and Alger had their eyes fixated on the foggy visage of The Fool- before they couldn't even muster up enough courage or were suicidal enough to do something so blasphemous as stare at a high-ranking deity head on-
But this-
This was juicy gossip!
Even Alger was extremely interested. Don't blame him, life in the sea was extremely boring and repetitive- entertainment like this was so rare that almost every pirate hungered for it- and Alger wasn't excluded from that list.
As for Little Sun? He couldn't understand the meaningful meaning behind a marriage since in Forgotten Land of the Gods although dating was allowed- after a certain age people would automatically be wedded to their match made by the Chiefs and do their duty to ensure the continuation of humanity. Although he knew the significance of Mr. Lover and The Fool being engaged with what the rings were symbolizing- he couldn't really understand Mr. Lover's plight. But all this merely made him more interested in this topic and even lean forward the table in interest.
Meanwhile, Audrey was just treating this subconsciously like multiple of the high society gossip groups.
"Pardon, can you elaborate Mr Lover?" Audrey asked- hoping she hadn't just dug herself an early grave with how tense Mr. Fool was looking.
The Lover let out a pain-filled sigh as he elaborated his dilemma, "You see… my fiancé proposed to me the winter of last year- it has already been more than half a year and he hasn't even brought up the topic of marriage… it makes me feel like he isn't as serious anymore…" Amon intentionally touched his face with his hands as if he was feeling extreme grief at the moment.
Alger and Audrey once again looked at The Fool- whose mouth was shut.
Was… was perhaps Mr. Lover using this gathering to have their couple's quarrel?! Was Mr. Lover perhaps uncomfortable with a head-on conversation and wanted to remind his fiancé about his blunder in front of a crowd casually as an audience?
Audrey, Derrick, and Alger who had suddenly been turned into the victims of this lovers' dispute between two high-sequence beings couldn't help but question if they were blessed or extremely unlucky.
Wait-
Looking at Mr Lover's hopeful expression as well as Mr. Fool's lack of response they quickly understood that Mr Lover was actually expecting them to respond!
With sudden telepathic communication between the first two members of the Tarot Gathering, Alger and Audrey secretly nodded at each other, and as if on cue, Alger started casually-
"Maybe Mr. Lover's fiancé has just been a bit too busy these past few months to think about this matter?" He neither took The Lover's nor The Fool's side- he wasn't suicidal. And he was treating this as if the fiancé in question wasn't actually present here overlooking them like some kind of omnipotent and omniscient god.
Yes! That's right! I've been super busy with my job at the NighHawks! Klein helplessly cheered for himself in his mind- praying that Alger's cover-up for him would convince Amon. The Hanged Man… was really such a good person!
"Yes, that indeed does seem like the case…" Amon sighed yet again.
This did not look good in Klein's eyes. He had a bad feeling about this...
"He has started to become busier and busier with his work and latest projects," Amon continued in a listless tone, "Before we used to spend a good part of the day together but these days... there are some days he doesn't even come back home."
Klein cursed in his mind- what do you mean doesn't come back home- that was because he spent his time in his real home with his siblings! Saying it like this made it sound like he was out cheating and spending the night somewhere not home!
No-
No good.
Klein was sure that if he did not intervene as The Fool right now- his poor wife might slip away from his hands like that time he almost did when he came for divination if Klein was cheating on him!
Amon trusted The Fool very much right? Right?!
He could use this respect and belief and act like his usual all-knowing self and make him turn to the right train of thought-
So, The Fool, for the first time since Amon had opened his mouth to speak this question, opened his mouth.
"I'm sure he has his reasons." He added nonchalantly and causally- as if he knew just exactly what was happening and was indirectly reassuring his believer that he knew that nothing much was up and that he would be at ease.
This was good! He was becoming better and better pretending to be a God these past few days!
Meanwhile the rest of the Tarot club had different views-
The Fool just responded casually as if he wasn't the fiancé Mr. Lover was speaking about?
Was this him continuing his beloved partner's play or was he actually not the fiancé-
So many questions! But they couldn't ask!!!
"Yes... you're right." Amon gave a small fond smile, "My fiancé has been trying so hard these past few weeks- trying to become better and do better for his family as well as myself... although it might be quiet narcissistic of me to assume things like this- but I prefer to believe that he is trying to become the best he could for me be before our marriage."
This eluded extremely intelligently both Klein's recent changes of finally getting a decent job and supporting his family as well as treating Amon and buying his own house-
As well as The Fool who had just seemed to awaken a few weeks ago and was trying to regain his power and had started this gathering to reach his goals that the members still did not know about.
Amon hid his smirk behind the fog he manipulated as he willed it.
All the other four people present there were touched-
Mr. Lover was so sweet!
His wife was so sweet!
Klein could die happily now- it was like his heart was on the verge of melting- he was sure that if not for the grey fog, everyone would be able to see his blushing face.
Audrey couldn't help but pray once again in her mind- please give me a partner as loving and pure as Mr. Lover!
His name really suits him a lot!
Even Alger was extremely moved- so that was saying something.
It was little sun who said the next words, "Mr. Lover must love his fiancé very much..." he spoke, almost in awe.
The Fool was looking extremely intensely at The Lover's seat- almost as if thirsting for the reply.
"Yes, after all- he is the love of my life." Amon smiled sweetly, making sure to use his charms to his best abilities as well as record Klein's as well as the rest of the Tarot Club's reactions and expressions so that his clones would just stop bugging him because they were too bored.
"I want nothing more in the world than growing old beside him and spending the rest of our lives together." Amon almost even added the classic 'Till death do us apart' but even he knew that would be a little too overboard so he left it at that.
Meanwhile, Klein was suffering from an almost heart attack.
His wife... his wife was the best-!
If there wasn't an audience present right now- Klein would have already started rolling on the ground squealing like a little schoolgirl with a crush.
"But I still do wish that we can get married before our first year anniversary..." Amon lamented. He needed that done as soon as possible before Klein's 'death' which would delay their marriage by almost an entire year-! He had already been waiting for decades to call Klein his husband already! Just imagining another long ass year without not even his brother/father to leech love and affection off of to spend time! He only had that one old man and Leonard to bug- and his clones had taken over that task long ago already! Hmph-!
"I'm sure you two will," Audrey added nicely, fully deep into this relationship and shipping it with all her might. This was way more interesting than the gossip between the noble ladies from Backlund or even novels!
Klein was nodding bg extremely enthusiastically in his mind.
Yes!
He wanted to make his wife his official wife as soon as possible!
How much was the wedding gonna cost-? Whatever-! He had tons of money saved up already!
Suddenly, Klein's head was hit with a sharp sting.
Shit-
He had overstayed his time above the grey fog.
As The Fool, he tapped the table a few times to get attention and quickly dismissed the meeting and almost instantly went back to the real world-
Klein sat there- in his bed staring at the ceiling.
Marriage...
Klein bit his lips.
He was so young still and didn't even have much time or any relationship experience from his past life-
Could he get married to Amon just like that?
He wasn't... the real Klein Moretti... he knew that the one Amon fell in love with and who he always saw when looking at Zhou Mingrui was Klein...
But at the same time... Amon had also mentioned many times that he loved how Klein was treating him these days and what he was doing these days-
Even in the meeting, he said how he could see Klein trying to become better...
Klein pouted.
The previous Klein Moretti was an asshole anyways!
If that guy wasn't going to give the love that Amon deserved and required- then it wouldn't be Zhou Mingrui's fault for stealing this wifey for himself!
Amon was his! Not Klein Moretti's- but his!
And this marriage would solidify this bond...
While Klein was thinking these things, he could hear the door open.
Ah- Melissa was back.
Klein quickly made up his mind and rushed downstairs to greet his younger sister.
"Melissa, you... you know a lot about marriages right?" Klein asked slowly.
Melissa dropped the bag of groceries she had just come home with.
