Chapter 1 - prologue: a first impression

Chirp, chirp..

The peaceful sound of birds and the flapping of their wings following.

It's a bright and sunny day with no clouds in the sky. The leaves on the trees are brilliantly green and lush. Despite how calming the ambience is.. what's that noise in the distance?

"Hey!" An angry, irritated voice hollers, "Aren't you goin' to apologize?"

The man turns around menacingly. He's good looking. Very good looking. He has dark navy, long hair and a proportionate face. Looked Asian, maybe even Wasian. His white dress shirt's sleeves were rolled up and paired with dark blue jeans.

The man gave the two men a small piece of paper and left quickly, leaving the other two in shock and growing even more angry right after.

Well.. At least, I can get back to my relaxing walk. On this campus, there was always something going on, so that event didn't necessarily stand out to me.

I lazily walked up the flight of stairs and into the school building. There was a big sign displaying: Art Building. I walked up another flight of stairs and turned left. I really didn't want to take this class, but all of my friends wanted me to join it… Only to decide to drop it after the first week, leaving me and two other of my mates to fend for ourselves against the Art students. Not that I hate Art students— I just don't particularly like them, but there's one department of students I definitely hate..

Computer Science majors.

They are the epitome of the term "know-it-all" and arguably the most insufferable people on this campus. They act like smart asses and think they're the shit, but in reality, they're virgins who've only touched 2D women with the help of a mouse and a cursor.

I approach my Art class and open the door to be greeted by my two friends sitting in the back.

"Hauke! Over here!" I look over and see the two flailing their arms. The one with red hair and a dumb smile on his face was Sunny and the other one with black hair with an even dumber smile was Alexander.

I walk over to them and set my bag next to theirs. "I'm surprised you guys are here on time." I joke. "And we're surprised you're late for once, Mr. Teacher's Pet." They retorted. I laugh and sit next to them. "I'm no teacher's pet; I'm just a studious and well-mannered student."

"I'm just a stuuuudious and wellll-mannered indaaviduuuallll…!" The two mocked. Before I could get a word in, the door opened and a familiar face walked in. "Oh, it's Aris." They stared.

I glanced at him, recognizing him has the guy from earlier. I peered back over at my red haired friend, Sunny. "You know him?" I inquired. He nodded his head, "Yeah, I had a class last semester in stats." My other friend's eyes brightened, "Oh yeah! Everyone called him the 'The AI of Comp. Sci.!'"

A Computer Science major? Well that seems fitting, but what a bad taste in nicknames.

I frowned, "What kind of name is that?" The other two laughed, "He's hella smart, that's why. And also.. his social skills are like of an NPC. It's like he's having an AI generate his response every time."

I looked back to the front to then notice he was two seats in front of us. I thought to myself, "So even someone as good looking as him has flaws as well."

"But why is he transferring to this class all of a sudden?" Alexander wondered outloud.

A thought that everyone was probably thinking.

All three of us turn our heads when we hear the door open again and the professor greeting us. "Good mornin', class, hopefully you guys completed your homework I assigned from last Friday.. You've had two days to finish it, so I won't be accepting late work.. especially because it's the first assignment you'll be turning it.." He places his pile of binders and paper work on his desk and hangs his bag.

"Shit, I didn't finish it." I hear some muttering.

How do you not finish something so easy? It was just a worksheet of a video and an anatomy sketch.

After that, the lecture starts and he begins to talk about the history of art and how it had influenced many cultures and how it was a way to peer into the past.

I couldn't care about it and was lost in thought about what to eat later in the day instead.

"Hauke, they got katsu today, wanna go to the cafeteria?" My ears perked. Katsu? Sign me up. I gave them a thumbs up and a funny face. "Count me in, boys!" We silently cheered and went back to focusing on the lecture. Well, at least I did.

After class, we went to go drop off Sunny's bag at his dorm and hung out there for a bit until lunch.

Lunch came so me and my friends hurried off to the cafeteria, which was decently packed.

"Get in line, stupid!" Sunny ushered before pushing me into someone. I run my head and glare at Sunny before turning to the person in front of me and apologizing, "Sorry, are you alright?" I look up and it was the same boy, Aris.

Looking up close, he was even more handsome. He had long lashes and his eyes were in between a shade of light purple and light blue. If he fixed his hair and didn't keep it so long and in his face, he'd look even better.

"I'm fine," He replied before turning back. I noticed he had one earbud in and turned back at my friend, "What the fuck dude?" I whisper- screamed. He smiled apologetically and pointed in front of me. I looked back, scared Aris had something to say, but instead, the line had moved.

"Hi, Katsu, please!" I smiled cheerfully. Hopefully they'll give me extra Katsu. The lunch lady placed six pieces on my plate and so I moved over and got the rest of my food. "So, what are we doing after school?" Alex asked. I hummed before saying, "Karaoke?" I feel like attempting a challenging song. "Sure, sounds swell." Sunny agreed, finishing grabbing condiments. We waited for Alexander to finish grabbing his sides and then sat at our usual spot: the furthest in the middle section by the glass windows. I compared our trays and noticed that I got one extra Katsu, which was satisfying to see.

"You know, that Aris guy is really pretty." Sunny mentioned before taking a bite of Katsu. Alexander choked on his food, "Pretty? What are you? Gay?" He spouted while chewing his food he had just choked on. Sunny rolled his eyes and rebutted, "Hell no! I'm just stating facts! When was it gay to say another dude was good looking?" Alexander raised his eyebrows and swallowed, "No, that's straight homo." He stabbed his Katsu and pointed it at Sunny. Sunny grumbled and grabbed his Katsu with his teeth and ate it. "Then fuck me, I guess! It's 2023; being gay is ok!" He furiously chewed and spoke.

I watched the two fight and thought to myself: he's more handsome than pretty. Was that kinda gay to think? Maybe, but I know I'm not into dick.

"Aris is handsome if anything." I said outloud. The two stopped arguing and looked at me with wide eyes. "Studies say that one in three people are gay." Sunny said while wide-eyed. I laughed, "Well, I'm not gay; I'm just comfortable in my masculinity."

"That's what someone GAY would say." Alexander joked before getting a high five from Sunny, "Spitting, my brother." I looked at the two disgusted, "And I'm being called gay?" The two started shouting at me in sync like it was some Bluetooth connection, "I'm not fucking gay! He's gay!" After, the two started having a cat fight with eachother.

"Hey, I'm heading out." I tried to let them know, but they just kept fighting. "Ok, I told you guys I'm leaving then."
