Amid the sea of fire and rubble, Roger's Titan still marched forward.
In his path, a man bound in chains writhed and screamed—Anderson, the current Jaw Titan inheritor.
When Roger had injected the spinal fluid and transformed into a hundred-meter Titan, Anderson's hands and feet were shackled. The soldiers guarding him had all been blown away and killed by the transformation's blast.
The chains kept him from being flung aside, but debris smashed his body into a bloody mess.
At first he could cry out, but shards pierced his throat, silencing him completely.
Still—he wasn't dead.
He raised his mangled face to see Roger's Titan closing in, step by step.
His mouth twisted into a smile.
"I'll be with you soon, Kriss. You were right—I really am stubborn. I really never let you go. You chose well."
Anderson mouthed his last words, no voice left, but his heart content.
Lowering his head, he accepted his fate.
Roger's Titan bent low, fingers closing to pluck Anderson up like a pebble.
And then—
BOOM!
Lightning split behind him—
The true Colossal Titan appeared.
Sixty meters high, a mountain upon the earth, shaking the ground and tearing cracks with its step.
"The Colossal!"
"The real Colossal!"
"But…"
Amid the shouts, Beast Titan Ksaver sighed.
"Looks like the Colossal has fallen from its throne. Next to that black one, it's only 'large.'"
"Not necessarily, sir," Zeke said calmly, sliding his glasses back on. "The Colossal's battle experience is greater. And that black Titan—doesn't it look like an Abnormal?"
"You mean one obsessed with a single purpose?"
"Same thing."
"And its purpose is…?"
"There."
Zeke pointed. A faint dot near Roger's foot.
Ksaver squinted. He saw.
"Anderson? You mean its goal is Anderson?"
"The Jaw Titan," Zeke said flatly, hands in his pockets. "That black Titan is Roger Eikam."
The words froze everyone.
"You're saying…"
"That black Titan…"
"…is Roger?"
Every warrior candidate, every warrior, spoke at once.
They'd wondered at the strange Titan's appearance, but hearing Zeke's reasoning, it all made sense.
Roger had always been top of every test—combat, theory, drills. The brightest of any class.
"Now… all we can do is hope the Colossal can stop him…"
Ksaver sighed again. Faces around him twisted in unease.
Roger's black Titan loomed over Anderson. Massive fingers pinched him up like a bean.
"AAAAH—"
Roger had no reason left, only obsession. He lifted Anderson to swallow him whole.
The chains bound to Anderson's limbs were forged to resist Titan strength, but they snapped as Roger yanked him up, tearing his arms and legs away.
Blood sprayed. Agony sent Anderson into unconsciousness, a morsel in Roger's grasp.
Then—
"ROOOAAARRR!!"
The sixty-meter Colossal charged, arms wrapping Roger's leg, dragging him down.
BOOM!
The clash was like mountains shattering, stars crashing. The ground shook, men's chests rattled, knees buckled.
Roger staggered, titanic body swaying.
But he steadied himself. He noticed the Colossal.
Calmly, he freed a hand, pressed down on its head, and shoved.
Pat, move along.
Like a father scolding a child, Roger brushed the sixty-meter Titan aside. It stumbled, then toppled flat.
BOOM!!
The quake shattered buildings, lives crushed beneath.
"Too big a gap in size…"
Watching, Zeke winced, grateful he hadn't been under the Colossal's fall.
"The army's here. Best we get back!"
A voice boomed behind him—Pieck's Cart Titan, wooden crates strapped to its back.
Inside was her successor, Pieck Finger, waving to the others.
"Go on, Zeke. Don't forget our deal."
Ksaver clapped his shoulder, smiling before running off.
"Don't worry," Zeke answered.
Ksaver relaxed, mimed a pitch, then dashed ahead.
Zeke climbed onto the Cart Titan's back.
Through the window of the crate, he saw Roger's Titan lift Anderson's broken body—then stuff him into its jaws.
Teeth ground. Blood burst into the air.
Obsession fulfilled. The Jaw Titan devoured.
The black Titan stopped. Its body began to steam, dissolving.
"Now's our chance!"
Ksaver drew a knife and cut his finger.
BOOM!!
The Beast Titan roared into being.
"ROOOAAARRR!!"
Almost at once, the other warriors seized their moment, slicing themselves, unleashing their Titans.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Thunder shook the earth as five warriors, with the rising Colossal, charged together.
They would bring Roger down.
