Like a fog swallowing everything, Roger awoke to a white void.
Even when he lowered his head and raised his hand, he couldn't see his own fingers.
Nothing but blinding whiteness—no shapes, no sound.
"Where am I?"
He froze.
Instinctively, his mind tried to gather his memories, only to find them shattered, unconnected.
Only three things remained clear:
His grandmother was dead.
Anderson had betrayed him.
Destroy everything.
"Yes… I haven't destroyed Marley yet. How could I die so easily…"
He muttered, brows knitting, and slowly the world took form.
Black smoke and white clouds roiled together. Explosions echoed in the distance.
Glancing down, he saw a charred arm, veins glowing red like molten rock.
"This is… my hand? What's going on?"
But he had no time to think.
The black Titan he'd become was evaporating. Its massive frame came apart, spine vanishing into steam.
The upper body collapsed like a crumbling tower.
BOOM!
A thunderous crash. Chunks of Titan flesh burst apart, vanishing in vapor before they hit the ground.
Roger himself fell, but the shattered bones of the Titan cushioned him enough to survive. His ears rang deaf for a moment, only to heal quickly under Titan power.
"Haa—"
The air was thick with searing steam, hot enough to suffocate.
It was like being trapped in a boiling sauna, sweat soaking his skin, but there was no comfort here. He knew—wherever he'd inherited the Jaw Titan, it was inside Marley.
And if in Marley, then never a legal inheritance.
"Damn it! The memory before inheriting—where is it?"
His head throbbed. New fragments of thought that weren't his filled his mind, but the most crucial piece—the moment of inheritance—was gone.
Without it, he didn't know how he'd gained the Jaw Titan, or how to grasp the current situation.
Grimacing, he touched his forehead, straining for details.
And then he realized—
His leg.
He looked down. Whole again.
No longer a cripple.
"Of course… Titan power!" He almost laughed with relief.
But joy gave way to the old ache—Anderson.
Why had he helped, only to betray him?
From the fog of stolen memory, only one image surfaced:
A short-haired woman, brown bob, smiling as she said:
—"I only seek an ending."
"An ending? Ending what?"
Roger couldn't make sense of it.
The puzzle only deepened, his head heavier the longer he thought.
He shoved it aside. Survival came first.
The ground trembled faintly. Something huge was coming fast.
Using the lingering steam as cover, he scavenged what he could—knife and helmet from a dead soldier. No rifle—too heavy.
Crouching, he rolled behind a rock.
The tremors grew, scattering the steam with every beat.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
He risked a glance—
A Titan.
The Female Titan.
Fifteen meters tall, agile, adaptive, the one famed for her combat flexibility.
Roger had expected her to appear first.
He studied her, calculating escape or counterattack. But either way seemed suicide.
If he ran, she'd stomp him flat in an instant.
"If I crawl instead…"
His eyes flicked to a corpse nearby. Grabbing its leg, he dragged it close, disguising himself among the dead.
The Female Titan prowled, puzzled. She'd seen the black Titan's carcass crash here, but no sign of life.
Did he immediately inherit the Jaw Titan and escape?
Her instincts told her something was off. She scanned again and again.
Normally, anyone who inherited Titan power lost a short piece of memory, left stunned and confused—that was what she expected. Yet no figure appeared.
Meanwhile, Roger nearly buried himself in dirt, his face painted with blood, wearing Marleyan uniform like the corpses.
Hunger tore through him, dizziness blurring his vision. The transformation had drained him dry, and he hadn't eaten since yesterday.
"Please, just leave…"
He prayed, struggling even to breathe.
But instead, she noticed the field of bodies.
BOOM. CRUNCH. BOOM. CRUNCH.
One by one, she stomped the corpses into pulp.
And her shadow crept closer, about to crush his skull.
Roger's fingers tightened around the knife hidden in his sleeve, cursing under his breath.
"What a vicious woman…"
He waited, still as stone.
One step.
Another.
And then—
Her vast shadow swallowed him whole.
