Chapter 77: The Gods Descend
The remaining Skywing Clan warriors retreated in panic, their white wings bloodied. They had never imagined mortals could defeat them.
"Whew, is it finally over?" Eric collapsed onto the ground.
Defending against the explosion's shockwave had exhausted all his magic. He couldn't imagine how much mana Kurtz and Serie, must have consumed breaking through the God Strike head-on.
"It's Hard to say."
Kurtz gripped Orger tightly. The Sword of Divine Authority had become dim and lusterless, clearly having expended a great deal of its magic. The weapon felt heavier now.
Serie plunged El's light into the ground. Her magic was no longer sufficient to lighten the holy sword's weight.
"Something's wrong…" Serie suddenly looked up at the sky, her voice filled with unease. "The flow of magic is becoming very strange…"
In Serie's perception, all the magic in this space swirled chaotically in an irregular state, causing the entire space to begin twisting. It was as if something was forcibly trying to emerge from this space.
Moreover, the entire sky had been dyed an eerie dark red, as if something even more terrifying was about to happen.
"This is bad!" Kurtz cursed under his breath.
Orger's power of foresight manifested once again. He saw an incredibly terrifying figure descending.
"Run!"
Kurtz didn't have time to think. He grabbed Serie and turned to flee.
The others didn't bother asking questions, following Kurtz's lead closely.
During their escape, Somo hoisted the holy sword El's light onto his shoulder. Although el's light was incredibly heavy at the moment, his dwarf physique could still manage to carry it.
Behind them, the entire space began to collapse.
"Is that…" Serie's eyes widened in disbelief. "Because of such immense power, even space is being torn apart?"
The only existence in this world with such immense power was that one, the legendary goddess, the deity worshipped by both the Skywing Clan and the Elves, and the false god recorded by the Dwarfs.
"Run quickly! She's tearing space apart!"
Everyone ran for their lives, quickly leaving the collapsing space far behind them. Only when it was entirely out of sight did Norn find a moment to ask, "How could this happen?"
First, they took a God Strike from the Skywing Clan, then they clashed with the Skywing Clan, who had received power from the goddess, and now the goddess herself was personally descending!
What exactly had their group done to provoke such anger?
"It's probably because of Orger, the Sword of Divine Authority and the fact that we learned their true identity. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so enraged as to chase after us."
Kurtz tightly held Serie's small hand.
Although Serie's heart raced with excitement and anxiety from facing a deity, for some reason, his warmth gave her a strange sense of peace.
Perhaps this was the feeling of having companions by your side? It was truly wonderful.
Meanwhile, in the centre of the previous battlefield, a large section of space tore open, and a blurred figure emerged from within.
The figure first glanced in the direction the Skywing Clan had retreated: "Useless fellows, but it's time to notify them to act."
The Skywing Clan, as her direct dependents, had faith so pure that she could use their power to replenish the original owner of this body's strength. This was why she had been unable to eradicate the other soul completely.
Initially, she had planned to order the demons to launch a surprise attack, thereby inflicting heavy damage on the Skywing Clan, but by chance, those little bugs had managed to do just that.
Her own powers had been wasted. It would have been better if both sides had been mutually devastated.
"The power of Orger, huh… Dwarf King, what a truly remarkable method."
When she first seized the goddess's authority, the original goddess, in her desperate struggle, threw a portion of her authority into this world. That authority happened to be discovered by the Dwarf King of that time.
He used this authority to forge the holy sword Orger, capable of slaying gods, and even used Orger's power to glimpse some of the truth.
Fortunately, she discovered it in time, allowing the demons to use a large-scale magic teleportation array to destroy the Dwarf Kingdom and use its ruins as their base, ensuring that no one would get their hands on Orger.
But unexpectedly, just as she was about to launch her next plan, a group of little bugs secretly infiltrated here and found Orger, the Sword of Divine Authority.
This forced her to issue a divine oracle and use a super-large teleportation array to send the Skywing Clan here.
The Skywing Clan, those servants, were ultimately defeated, defeated by the power of the goddess they once worshipped.
But in the end, the result was acceptable.
The heavily damaged Skywing Clan could no longer stir up any trouble. Let this race completely withdraw from the stage of history.
The power unique to a deity unfolded, and upon discovering Kurtz and his group's fleeing figures, a divine thought was also transmitted far away.
The demons hidden in the shadows also began to act accordingly.
The Skywing Clan had suffered heavy losses, with less than one-tenth of their strength remaining, making it a prime opportunity to launch an attack.
And the Elf Forest on the main battlefield was also part of these demons' plans.
Sometimes, God Strike is not magic exclusive to the Skywing Clan.
However, a God Strike unleashed by demons would be a terrifying move capable of extinguishing all life, turning the entire land into a dead zone for thousands, or even tens of thousands of years.
The Elf Forest was in grave danger!
After running for an unknown amount of time, Kurtz finally stopped, and the others, seeing this, also stopped, gasping for breath.
"Did we escape?" Eric slumped to the ground, all dignity forgotten.
Everything that had happened today had truly been an eye-opener for him.
First, he personally experienced the legendary strongest magical attack on the continent, God Strike, and twice at that!
Just surviving one God Strike was enough for others to brag about for a lifetime, let alone two.
But these were not the most terrifying things.
The most terrifying thing was that the goddess herself had actually descended later.
Although he hadn't seen her real form with his own eyes, just the aura when she descended made his heart pound wildly with fear.
"I don't know. At this distance, we should have escaped, right?"
Norn looked back, but the Dwarf Ruins were no longer even a shadow.
"Not yet…" Kurtz tightened his grip on Orger, the sword's dim surface reflecting his grim expression. "Now, it's truly over!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a dazzling golden light suddenly tore through the clouds, shooting straight down.
The oppressive power contained within that light instantly brought everyone to their knees, making even drawing breath a struggle.
"This is…" Norn fought to raise his head, his pupils contracting in terror.
Within the golden light, a blurred female figure slowly materialised.
The goddess had found them.
