Chapter 78: First Fight with God
She simply stood there, yet it was as if she were the centre of this space; her presence crumbled everything around her, and the earth split apart silently.
This was the power of a god, a power not even permitted to manifest in its real form.
"God... Goddess..." Eric's teeth chattered uncontrollably.
His legs trembled instinctively; he had never imagined he would face a god at such close range. The air around her burned with a presence that made his skin crawl.
Her aura was too terrifying; merely standing there caused all existence around her to begin annihilating.
This oppressive feeling nearly suffocated him.
Eric even felt that if she were to lift her foot and walk towards him, her power would completely shatter his body and soul.
A god was truly beyond compare in terror!
But he still forced himself not to kneel! His hands clenched into fists, nails biting into his palms until they drew blood.
Even before such a terrifying god, he absolutely could not yield.
If he fell here, he would fall even further behind Kurtz's pace. The thought burned worse than the divine pressure crushing down on him.
He never wanted to be someone always protected from behind by Kurtz and Serie, never!
However, it was clear that the Goddess did not care about Eric.
She scanned her surroundings and fixed her gaze on Kurtz. When her attention landed on him, the air thickened with malevolent intent.
In her vision, this little bug before her gave her a strong sense of crisis, a possibility that could threaten her very existence.
This was a unique ability of the gods, the ability to perceive future destiny, which was the magic of foreseeing the future.
There were also two other ants with this potential, though very faint, with a probability of less than one ten-thousandth of it being realised in the future, far less threatening than the current holder of the Orger, Sword of Divine Authority.
In the past, the original master had cast his own power, and even the magic of foreseeing the future, into this world.
The Dwarf King not only gained this power but also used the Dwarves' technology to imbue the Orger, Sword of Divine Authority, with the magic of foreseeing the future.
Therefore, after gaining the recognition of the Orger, Sword of Divine Authority, its holder also possessed the ability to foresee the future.
This was a magic unique to gods.
If it were just like this, she would not need to worry, but if this little bug in front of her were to use it, things would be different.
With just a glance from the Goddess, Kurtz felt all the bones in his body creak. Divine power pressed into his marrow like a crushing weight.
"Foolish ant, desecrating divine authority, this sin deserves death!" The Goddess's voice carried no emotion, like thunder that made the ground shudder.
She slowly raised her hand, and a beam of pure energy shot from her fingertip.
"Look out!"
Serie reacted fastest, shouting as she conjured multiple magical barriers, but the beam easily pierced through all her defences and struck Kurtz directly.
A God Strike went straight through his stomach, leaving a fist-sized wound on him.
"Kurtz!" Serie's scream tore through the sky.
She watched helplessly as the divine light pierced Kurtz's abdomen, yet she could do nothing. For the first time in centuries, Serie felt utterly powerless, her magic, her experience, her pride, all meaningless before this divine wrath.
Everything happened too quickly!
So fast that no one could react.
Blood gushed from the wound, and Kurtz groaned, falling to one knee. The metallic taste filled his mouth as agony lanced through his entire body.
This was the first time he had suffered such a severe injury since he transmigrated; he could even feel his life draining away constantly, each heartbeat sending fresh waves of fire through the gaping wound.
But, he could not fall yet!
Although his face was pale, he forced himself not to collapse, his trembling hand gripping the Orger, Sword of Divine Authority, tightly.
He raised Orger, and the runes on the sword began to flash wildly.
Orger's own power was already nearly exhausted, and now Kurtz had no choice but to use his last shred of power, along with that of el's light.
"It's not over yet!" Kurtz gritted his teeth, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, "Orger, give me all your power!"
The Orger, Sword of Divine Authority, possessed a certain degree of consciousness, but not much, far from reaching the level of a sword spirit in fantasy novels; it was more of a programmatic mechanism.
But it was enough!
The holy sword emitted a loud hum, all the runes on its body lit up, and the last of its magic erupted, silver-blue light engulfing Kurtz's entire body like flames.
With this magical power, Kurtz actually managed to stop the bleeding from his wound.
But only temporarily.
He acted like someone using a red-hot iron to stop bleeding; if further, more careful treatment was not performed afterwards, it would instead make the wound even worse.
Kurtz, who could not use healing magic, could only resort to this method.
"Futile struggle!" The Goddess's cold voice rang out, and she raised her hand again, "After all, it's just a bit of an old dwarf's power; how much can you even use after so long?"
In front of Kurtz and his companions, the Goddess had no intention of disguising herself.
Whether it was the Dwarves or these little bugs in front of her, they were all the same in her eyes.
What if they knew the truth? What if they gained the recognition of the Orger, Sword of Divine Authority?
These little bugs would all die here!
What right did these lowly beings have to covet power that only gods could touch?
The second beam of light tore through the air.
This time, Kurtz swung Orger, and a silver-blue barrier unfolded before him.
The beam collided with the barrier, erupting in a thunderous roar. The impact sent shockwaves through Kurtz's already battered body, forcing him to dig deeper into reserves he wasn't sure existed.
The Goddess frowned.
The Dwarves always played little tricks.
Not only did they infuse this holy sword with numerous powers, but when she transported the demon army to the Dwarf Kingdom centuries ago, those Dwarves also hid Orger.
At that time, the Goddess had considered simply ordering the Skywing Clan to launch a God Strike on the Dwarf Ruins, completely obliterating the entire ruins.
However, considering the need to find a suitable base for the demons, she dismissed that idea.
It was a pity that these little bugs still found a loophole.
The Goddess's thought lasted only an instant, and she had already released the third beam of light; with Orger's power alone, blocking it was absolutely impossible.
And this time, she aimed for Kurtz's head.
As long as she eliminated the holder of Orger, the others were nothing to fear.
The third beam of light tore through the air, and this time Eric suddenly rushed forward: "Don't even think about it!"
His heart hammered against his ribs as he made his choice, no more standing behind others, no more being protected. Not when Kurtz was about to die.
He held up the magical amulet in his hand, an ancient relic he had found in the Dwarf Treasure Vault, and one of the few surviving items from the vault besides the spellbooks Kurtz and Serie carried with them.
The amulet erupted in dazzling golden light, actually deflecting the beam's direction temporarily.
The beam flew towards the mountain behind them, directly blasting a large hole through the entire mountain, its power unimaginable.
If Serie's multiple magical barriers hadn't weakened the first attack, Kurtz would have been more than just pierced.
"Eric!" Norn exclaimed, pride in his voice.
He had no idea that the other party had such a trick up his sleeve.
