Chapter 2 - Fleeting Dream

People often think to themself.

'What would it be like to fly'

The rush of adrenaline as you go up and see the ground below slowly expanding and everything coming into your view is such a feeling that you would want to last forever.

I was flying throughout the world jumping from rock to rock as the wind brushed past my hair.

As i landed on a big cliff i looked over the world seeing the jagged mountains of rock and the dark ceiling which i knew all too well.

- I hope i can do that more often..

Muttering to myself i sat down and prepared to jump down until i heard two pairs of footsteps appear from behind me, i knew very well who they belonged to as these people were the only ones i truly loved and hated as much.

- You cannot learn soar into the air just because you saw me do it.

- Nor will you be able to until you stop lazing around with us away.

These people were my parents, the strongest people in the world. My father coming up to me sat right next to me with his flowing white hair brushing on the ground and golden eyes that looked at me as if he knew everything, he sat next to me shifting uncomfortably opening his mouth a few times before turning to my mom who watched it all in silence, she then understood his intentions and walked up to me not sitting down like my dad.

- You should stop being so carefree Vlad.

- Why should i?

Smiling to myself i looked down slightly, the world was slowly starting to get blurry but i didn't want it to be so as i simply brushed my eyes and looked back up.

- You won't even notice it unless someone as good as you told it.

Shutting her down i stood up and leaped down from the edge falling down into the endless pit in front of my eyes, they followed me and matched my speed while falling and looked toward me.

- You still can atleast try for yourself.

- Hah.

I let out a short chuckle after hearing her words, quick enough to almost choke on it.

- Why do i have to do it for myself, i don't need to.

Turning around and looking toward the pit that seemed to end i let out a short sigh and after curving slightly, flew forward towards the city until long pitch black hair appeared in front of me covering my vision which followed soon after by covering my eyes.

- Just, try a little.

Trying to take away the hands it proved to be useless as they were almost glued to my eyes.

- Guess who.

Ridiculous question was sent to me but i thankfully knew the answer too well.

- Its you, mom.

The silence that followed was almost suffocating as the hands slowly fell onto my shoulders and i saw her stoic face in front of mine, with father standing in the background.

- Vlad.

Mother called out my name gathering all my attention as i intently stared into her still eyes.

- Yes?

- Vlad.

She kept repeating my name like a broken recorder until her voice started to shift becoming louder each time and becoming a male one..?

- VLAD!

Everything went dark for a second before i got pulled out from the dream, my head snapped back up and i wiped the drool of my face, i noticed that everyone was staring in my direction aswell as an angry instructor standing in front of me.

Realizing the situation i quickly moved my hair back so that i could see better and awkwardly answered.

- Y-yes?

- Pray tell what you were doing right now?

- Uhh, memorizing sword techniques?

Finding my answer quite dumb the instructor sighed and confirming that i was no longer sleeping went back to reading prepared lectures from his book.

'This lesson is so boring'

As a son of the two strongest people in the world i needed to have some better place unlike our knight covenant, i always wondered why they sent me her but it must have been their lazyness from raising me that they sent me to learn here with other normal people.

My full name is Vlad von Clau and im 17 years old learning at the knight covenant my parents owned. They as the strongest Chasm Seekers overlooked most of them so it was no surprise i learned at one.

After the class ended i went out of it earning a few stares some sympathetic and few hatefull ones coming from the students and instructora alike.

I walked through the city streets passing stands with food and looking toward the dark ceiling that covered the entire area.

'So boring'

As i grew up i heard many tales of lower floors but wasnt strong enough to explore them, most of them were told by my parents while i was growing up giving me thrill and sometimes nightmares with various twists and turns. All of them ended in a good way with them defeating monstrous beasts and exploring new beautifull places.

I only liked one story the most out of them about the 7th Section the Starless Sky.

They told me how dark it was there with the sand hills and black empty sky with a thing called moon on it, the monsters there didn't seem as scary as the ones from the other floors so i could listen to their exploits without any fear.

The dull rocky earth covering all roads and the ceiling made me wonder just how diferent would it be on the other side.

'I want to go sleep'

Making my way through the streets i found myself in front of a big mansion that was guardes by two strong individuals whom i knew well as new recruites guards by my uncle, i didn't really lime them but that went both ways i suppose as they gave me some weird looks not saying anything and opened the doors for me.

Entering the house it looked plain aswell with white marble floor, white walls, stairs, doors and a black ceiling. A big golden chandelier stood out from everything as it hung in the middle of the entrance.

I made my way up the stairs walking past the various guest rooms filled with expensive furniture and top notch equipment.

My room was on the very end of the corridor standing out from the rest by having various colorfull drawings on it from my childhood.

At the corner of my eye i noticed the drawing i made when i was about 8 of a small boy with brown hair and eyes standing in beetween tall black haired princess and a white haired smiling sun, it was drawn clumsily but brought warm memories making me feel even worse.

'I hope you're satisfied with your plaything now'

Opening the door toward my room it was filled to the brim with colorfull things ranging from various books about famous Chasm Seekers from fairy tales and toys which i still used due to my boredom.

Turning toward my white bed i put down my sword and equipment that i used at the knight covenant and slumped down on it drifting straight into the pleasant dreams that i wished lasted forever.

***

In a dark empty cave a few rugged figures appeared bleeding from almost every corner of their body and missing a limb or two looking like they just escaped the imminent death looming over them.

- Dammit!

A hoarse voice echoed throughout the cave as one of them that carried a passed out person suddenly cursed, everyone looked at the person who quickly laid it down and checked its condition, his eyes suddenly turned to the ones of despair as he stared at the mutilated body.

- She stopped breathing.

The news shattered whatever hope they had left of their journey and they laid down the body taking everything that could still be usefull leaving behind a woman with strands of black hair looking like a broken doll with hollow eyes missing its arm.

The remaining four people made their way toward the light coming from the stronghold dozens of kilometers away from them just to survive for another day and bring the news of their first defeat.
