Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Beverage

The hard-working Dr. Lockwood was very handsome, exuding a special charm that was hard to look away from.

Since she grew up with two handsome men often hovering around her at home, Serena Sutton rarely became smitten.

But for some reason, Caleb Lockwood turned out to be an exception.

Serena had also reflected on whether she was too bold in pursuing Caleb so fervently. Should a girl really chase this hard?

To this day, she still struggled with this issue.

Caleb Lockwood had just ordered a cranial MRI for a patient, and the patient, along with the family, had already left.

At this moment, the consulting room was very quiet.

"You also saw the CT just now, what is your diagnosis?" Caleb Lockwood glanced at Victor Rhodes and asked in a calm tone.

Victor stood next to Caleb, hesitantly opening his mouth, "It seems like a suprasellar mass, hydrocephalus, based on his clinical symptoms, increased intracranial pressure, I think it should be a meningioma."

"Seems like? Should be?" Caleb raised an eyebrow slightly, his voice crisp.

Victor lowered his head, clearly feeling a bit guilty, unable to respond.

"The patient had seizures, the initial symptoms of a meningioma are seizures and headaches. You can see the parasellar mass on the CT, and there's a dural tail sign. Doing an MRI could make it clearer, if..."

Caleb spoke in a plain tone, his expression cold, his slender fingers resting on the mouse. Victor stood beside him, nodding incessantly, appearing very attentive.

Serena Sutton watched Caleb Lockwood attentively, even though she couldn't understand what he was saying.

But now she realized, he wasn't as aloof as he seemed.

Whether it's toward patients or students, he's very patient, perhaps this is the responsibility of a doctor.

Serena propped her cheeks, the person she liked indeed seemed perfect everywhere, thinking this made her secretly smile.

Caleb Lockwood glanced sideways at the girl who was giggling foolishly.

The smile on Serena's face froze, and suddenly, the embarrassment of being caught giggling surged within her.

A blush quickly crept up her cheeks, and she quickly turned her face away.

Caleb Lockwood, unfazed, curled his lips slightly, his eyes flashing lightly, his voice warm, "Victor, take her to the cosmetic surgery department, and call the next patient in the meantime."

Serena wanted to refuse, but on second thought, staying here would affect others, so she followed Victor out.

Victor walked in front of Serena, muttering to himself as they walked, "It's strange, why is Teacher Lockwood so lenient with you today?"

"If it were someone else, they would've been kicked out of the consulting room long ago."

Saying this, Victor stopped and adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

"Miss, what's your relationship with Teacher Lockwood?" Surprisingly, Teacher Lockwood paid so much attention to this lady; it's illogical.

Serena: "Guess!"

Didn't Caleb just kick her out? She was a bit upset now, and if the person next to her was Caleb, maybe she'd feel much better.

Victor scratched his head, unable to figure it out, and didn't ask further.

Serena didn't really let Victor take her to the cosmetic surgery department; the small scar on her forehead was shallow and would fade over time.

After wandering around the hospital for a while, she went to the supermarket downstairs to buy a tea drink and then sat outside Caleb Lockwood's consulting room.

Playing on her phone, she waited for Caleb to get off work.

Last time, Sylvia Lynch, who helped her find a part-time job, sent her a message on WeChat: "Serena, the English dubbing you did for the short video last time was great. The dubbing company wants me to ask if you're interested in doing this long-term?"

"They think your voice and pronunciation are quite good, and you manage emotions well."

"Since you're not a professional, you'd only be an intern coming in, but you have potential. Want to give it a try?"

Serena frowned slightly; she only did the dubbing to earn some pocket money and didn't intend to make it her future career.

Moreover, she wasn't sure if she really liked this field.

Growing up brings many troubles, and work is just one part of them.

So she replied to Sylvia, "I'll consider it."

Serena sat outside for quite a while, and as it neared noon, there were hardly any people left in the waiting area.

The door to Caleb Lockwood's consulting room opened, and when she saw Caleb coming out, she quickly stood up and stepped forward.

Gathering courage, she stood in front of Caleb, blocking his path.

She looked up at him, a sweet smile on her lips.

"Dr. Lockwood, last time at the bar, you helped me with my wound, and I haven't had a chance to thank you. How about I treat you to a meal?"

Her voice was soft and pleasant, her delicate face blushing slightly, making her look even more beautiful and adorable.

Upon hearing the word "meal," Caleb furrowed his brows slightly, "No need." He didn't like eating out.

Upon hearing his refusal, Serena suddenly lowered her gaze, her disappointment evident in her eyes.

She puffed up her cheeks, no longer displaying the lively energy she had earlier, now looking like a wilting eggplant.

Victor thought Teacher Lockwood was really oblivious. But he didn't dare to say it out loud.

This pretty young lady was clearly asking him out, obviously wanting to pursue Teacher Lockwood, yet Teacher Lockwood was so clueless, rejecting so directly.

It's really exasperating.

Caleb Lockwood was merely telling the truth, but he didn't expect the young lady before him to seem unhappy after hearing his answer.

She drooped her head, pouted, and occasionally glanced at him with a gaze filled with a hint of grievance.

He suddenly felt a little flustered inside.

But he didn't know what to say, his dark eyes closely watching her, waiting for her to continue.

Serena took a deep breath and handed the tea drink in her hand to Caleb Lockwood, "If not a meal, then let me treat you to this drink."

Caleb's brows twitched slightly, a trace of distress flashing in his eyes.

This...he didn't drink either.

But the young lady seemed really upset. Those clear, beautiful eyes appeared slightly red, as if she might cry.

Seeing how long it took him to accept it, Serena thought he was going to refuse again, and her heart ached even more.

She sniffed, just about to withdraw her hand...

When a slender, well-defined hand appeared before her, taking the drink from her hand.

"Thank you." Caleb's voice was gentle and magnetic, his lips curling slightly, extraordinarily handsome.

Seeing him smile brightened her mood, and she smiled too, revealing two shallow dimples.

Caleb held the drink in his hand, and it seemed to still carry the warmth of her touch.

Looking at her adorable expression, he couldn't help but soften his voice, "Goodbye, next time, it'll be my treat."

He was a man, and he couldn't let a girl foot the bill.

Serena was stunned to hear this, and it wasn't until Caleb and Victor left that she fully processed it.

The smile on her lips widened, blooming joyfully.

Next time? That means they could meet again?

Which also means... there's a connection.
