Serena Sutton's roommate Skye Morgan has a new boyfriend from the medical school.
He's a third-year clinical medicine student named Leroy Jennings, in the same class as Serena and her friends. Apparently, they met during an elective course.
In dorms with good relationships, there is almost a tradition that whoever gets a date has to treat everyone to a meal.
But because Ginger Sloan's hand is injured and she can't go out, everyone decided to buy some food to eat in the dorm.
Skye ordered a large dry pot takeout and bought some other snacks like Absolute Taste duck neck, beef jerky, and casual snacks like chips, spicy strips, sunflower seeds, and cola.
On Wednesday night, the four of them sat around the table, eating and watching a movie.
Brandy Quinn has been the most down lately, drinking alone.
Serena asked Skye, "I heard that during last semester's exam month, the ambulance came to the medical school to take two away?"
"Really?"
Skye said while munching on duck neck, "I asked around, and it's true. One was due to skipping breakfast, leading to low blood sugar. Another stayed up all night memorizing microbiology and nearly fainted."
At this, Brandy put down her beer bottle and curiously leaned forward, "Skye, we've never seen your boyfriend, tell us, how's his hairline? Still good, right?"
Skye raised her chopsticks threateningly in response.
At this, Ginger interrupted, "I've seen her boyfriend, his hairline is okay, but he seems to have quite a few white hairs."
Brandy: "I've heard that people who study medicine have pretty worrying hairlines."
Serena reached for a piece of duck neck and stuffed it into Brandy's mouth, "Nonsense, Caleb Lockwood's isn't."
"Oh~ already defending him?" The other three heard what she said and couldn't help but tease her.
Brandy took the duck neck out of her mouth, raised her chin and said, "I don't care, when you two get together, you must treat us to a big feast."
Serena's face turned a little red, she casually opened a bag of spicy strips to hide her embarrassment.
"We'll talk about it then." Serena took out a spicy strip and stuffed it into her mouth.
Suddenly frowning, she looked at Skye, "Why are the spicy strips you bought today so spicy? Whew~"
"But they're pretty delicious." Serena laughed and ate another piece.
Eating while checking her WeChat.
She wondered if Caleb had blocked her, as she had not seen him post a single update.
His profile picture was basic, without even a personalized signature.
Serena suddenly suspected that this might be Caleb's secondary account.
But yesterday he did like her post...
Serena pondered for a while, wiped her hands, and sent Caleb a message.
Get-rich-quick student Serena: "Dr. Lockwood, have you tried the drink? How do you feel about it? I'm planning to order two boxes online, and I'll share one with you."
This was the only common topic she could think of; it wasn't like she could discuss medicine with Caleb, right?
After a while, she received Caleb's reply.
C: "No need, thank you."
Serena: "..." This Dr. Lockwood really knows how to end a conversation, how to keep chatting?
She rolled her eyes and then set a remark for Caleb.
Terminator.
At first glance, it even gave off a Hollywood blockbuster vibe.
Serena ate another spicy strip, wiped her hands, glanced at Ginger's hand, and continued typing.
Get-rich-quick student Serena: "One of my roommates has a broken hand, the orthopedic doctor said it's a humerus fracture, her condition, approximately how long will it take to recover?"
At the moment, Serena silently thanked Ginger for building a little bridge towards her happiness.
Soon, Caleb replied.
Terminator: "I haven't seen your roommate's X-ray, not sure which part of the humerus is fractured. Is it the humeral surgical neck or the humeral shaft? Also, I don't know the type of fracture, so I can't answer your question precisely."
Although Serena didn't quite understand, she thought Caleb was really rigorous.
To the point where she couldn't respond further.
Serena sighed, ate the last spicy strip, making her mouth burn, she quickly poured some cold water to drink, the fiery taste in her mouth dissipated quite a bit.
Just when Serena was pondering what to reply, Caleb's message came again.
Upon hearing the message alert, Serena immediately perked up, opened WeChat to see...
Terminator: "There's an emergency surgery at the hospital. Goodbye."
Upon seeing this message, lights in Serena's eyes dimmed, turns out it was just a goodbye.
Who knows if there really is a surgery, or perhaps it's just an excuse to not chat with me?
Serena sniffled, feeling her chest burn, the spicy strips are too much, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
She poured herself a cup of cola and gulped it down.
Skye tied her hair up, cleaned the table, "By the way, Serena, today a guy from my boyfriend's department asked for your WeChat ID, I know you're focused on someone now, so I politely declined."
"That guy's pretty handsome, he gets the national scholarship every year, reportedly talented and quite outstanding."
Serena lay on the bed, stomach burning, gave Skye a thumbs-up, "Nice job."
Skye threw the garbage on the table into the trash bin, tilted her head to look at her, "Serena, do you really like that Dr. Lockwood?"
"My boyfriend said, that Dr. Lockwood is very impressive, and being so handsome, surely many chase after him. Plus, you need to be clear-eyed, currently he's a working successful professional, while you, a student, may have differing values and life views."
"If two people have no common language, it's truly meaningless."
"I agree with this." Ginger suddenly raised her hand, "You need to be clear, although such scenarios appear frequently in romance novels, we're dealing with reality here."
"But still I support you. Because that Dr. Lockwood is just too handsome~"
Serena's mouth twitched, she knew her roommates genuinely cared for her.
She was more aware than anyone, she was pursuing a man seven years her senior.
Though age isn't an issue, there's still a gap.
Moreover, they truly don't have much to talk about.
Do you really like Caleb Lockwood?
Lying in bed, Serena was contemplating this question too.
Like, perhaps, but not to the extent of deeply in love.
As the dorm room lights went off, Serena lay in bed unable to sleep, feeling queasy with her mind extremely alert.
Her stomach began to ache.
Serena got up to use the restroom, inevitably ending up with diarrhea.
After the restroom, back in bed, she felt nauseous again, wanting to vomit.
The ultimate result was severe vomiting and diarrhea, extremely uncomfortable.
Serena held her stomach with one hand, the other hand supporting the chair, a weak voice sounded in the dark.
"Ladies, I think I'm sick."
