Chapter 6 - Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression,Acceptance

A few days passed in a stupor as Ignis travelled to the western city of Kazenara to attend her funeral. An ornate coffin was displayed atop an ornate marble altar along with a portrait of Wynn smiling beside it. Ignis mustered up the courage to approach her family as they stood beside her. As he lay his eyes on Wynn, anger consumed him as he saw the wounds that plagued her body and her eyes that had no spark left.

She was still wearing the same necklace he had gifted her. Galewind was placed atop her, the last memento of her existence and the bond they shared. He approached Gwen Typhoon, knowing that she was about to bury her only grand-daughter alongside her own children.

"I…I couldn't even tell her I loved her in her last moments. I should have been there by her side but instead I chose to be in my forge. I cannot atone for these sins; I beg for you to forgive me."

Gwen simply replied "My child you and I are no different, what use is my power if I cannot even protect my own family. You shouldn't seek my forgiveness for it was only due to your weapon that she was able to protect all those lives."

Ignis knew that what he was about to ask was shameful but he couldn't stop himself from doing so.

"Grandma Gwen, I know that you might not understand me but could I please borrow the necklace and Spear that Wynn has left behind. They were my last gifts for her and yet I cannot fathom the sight of them being buried and lost to time. I know that I am very selfish for even asking this of you but I don't want to forget her."

Gwen was stunned, however upon reflection she relented. Ignis wanted to spend the rest of his life with her instead he was robbed of that future. A weapon and trinket were rightfully his if nothing than to honour her legacy.

Ignis returned to Raimei along with Galewind and found that a carriage had arrived from the imperial palace. His father had recently been granted a new supply of Soulram to commemorate the occasion of the advancement of his son. As he unloaded the carriage Ignis was drawn to one of the largest ingots. It gave off a familiar presence and as he inched closer and grabbed it, he could feel the calming breeze of wind mana embrace him. Enamoured by this feeling he clutched the ingot and carried it all the way to his forge. He sent word to his father that he had found deep inspiration to forge his own soul bound weapon. After seeing his son in the depths of despair Enfernis was all too glad that he had found a project to dedicate himself to. He happily gave his permission for him to use that ingot.

Meanwhile in the Thunder Manor Mirai was being questioned by his advisor.

"Sire I cannot imagine giving away the soulram that we obtained by sacrificing the An S tier soul to Enfernis and his son to forge. "

Mirai replied in a cold tone "His son had recently put in a request for new soulram , I am merely granting it to him. You may see this as handing over a precious asset however I want to trust that the youngest soulsmith in history may be able to create the strongest weapon in history. Its an investment in the immediate advancement of forging. If he fails to live up to expectations, I am sure we can obtain his soul as well to recoup our losses."
