I walked into the library that morning, the familiar scent of old books and polished wood wrapping around me like a comforting feel. It was quiet, just the way I liked it, hardly anyone around except for Gideon, who was always here early, organizing shelves or reading in his corner. My heart felt heavy after everything that had happened. Reconciling with Bambi yesterday had been a relief, but deep down, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was slipping away, lost in this bond with Alpha Dawn. I needed help, someone to back me up, and Gideon was the only one I could trust with this.
He was at his usual spot behind the counter, his wheelchair tucked neatly under the desk, flipping through a stack of returned books. His dark hair was a bit messy, and he had that focused look on his face, the one that made him seem wiser than his years. When he heard my footsteps, he looked up and smiled softly.
