Chapter 127 - The Gathering and the Interlude

Night had fallen over New York City, just off the island that bore the Statue of Liberty.

A group of tourists stood before several security guards, their voices full of complaint."Hey, we clearly booked our tickets in advance—why aren't you letting us through?"

"I'm terribly sorry, everyone," one of the guards replied apologetically. "There's been an unexpected malfunction with the statue today that requires urgent maintenance, so no visitors are allowed entry for now."

He added, "To make up for your inconvenience, we'll refund your tickets at double the price. And if you come back tomorrow, you can visit free of charge."

The tourists, pacified by the guard's polite attitude, could only sigh and nod helplessly. But in the next moment, their expressions froze.

"Wait a minute—you said it's closed for maintenance, right? Then who are those people?" One tourist pointed toward a distant ferry.

All eyes turned in that direction, and they saw—on the very ferry that had been declared off-limits—a crowd of men and women, each dressed differently, chatting and laughing as they boarded the ship bound for Liberty Island. There were over a hundred of them.

"I'm sorry," the guard said again with a strained smile. "They're... special guests. I can't disclose any further details."

Near the flag plaza beneath the Statue of Liberty, the scene was unlike the usual peaceful setting. Barbecue stalls had been set up across the area, and groups of people sat casually on blankets, chatting and eating, transforming the monument's grounds into something resembling an outdoor festival.

Inside the island's small café, Bai Ye rested his cheek on one hand, looking somewhat bored as he sent out a teleportation invitation.

In an instant, a man in azure robes appeared before him—refined, scholarly, his beard neatly divided into five strands, and his face gentle and dignified.

Moments later, another man materialized—dressed in a gray Chinese tunic suit, his square-jawed face stern and his forearms corded with muscle.

Soon, one by one, members from various worlds materialized before Bai Ye, having accepted their invitations.

Among them, Tony Stark looked around in surprise.

He hadn't expected to be teleported even within the same world. So if I cancel later, will I get sent straight back to where I was?

As the group gathered, nearly all eyes turned toward the young man in white seated at the center. He looked barely twenty, with long black hair that shimmered like silk and features so fine they seemed almost unearthly. His gaze was calm yet curious as it swept across the room.

Aside from a few waiters, there was no one else present.

And since Stark had already revealed his own middle-aged identity in the group chat, it wasn't hard for the newcomers to realize that this youthful figure must be the group's administrator—Deep Blue.

What a handsome young man... So this is what genius looks like, Master Luo thought to himself in quiet admiration.

"Yue greets Senior Deep Blue, and thanks you for granting me a new life," Yue Buqun said, quickly suppressing his astonishment at Bai Ye's youth as he bowed deeply.

The others followed suit, offering respectful salutes.

Thanks to the chat group's automatic translation, no one needed to worry about language barriers.

"Alright, enough of that," Bai Ye said with a casual wave of his hand. "We're all group members here—no need to be so formal. We'll likely be working together for a long time."

Standing slightly to the side, Junjima Kana couldn't take her eyes off Bai Ye. The moment she saw him, an indescribable sensation welled up inside her.

Born with a unique sensitivity that allowed her to distinguish between humans and parasites, she could feel an overwhelming presence emanating from him—like standing before a blazing sun.

She turned her head slightly, glancing out the window just as the colossal figure of the Statue of Liberty came into view, torch raised high, its crown lights gleaming brightly against the night sky.

"Wait... is that the Statue of Liberty?" she asked, rubbing her eyes in disbelief.

Bai Ye nodded lightly. "Yes. A friend helped arrange this gathering—it wasn't easy to set up. You can wander around the island freely."

We can just... walk around here? I've never been to a place like this before, she thought, her amazement growing when she noticed people barbecuing and busking nearby.

People are grilling and singing right under the Statue of Liberty? The regulations here must be pretty relaxed...

"Alright, don't just stand there in a daze," Bai Ye said, rising from his seat. "Let's head out and take a look around. I've arranged a full evening for us."

He waved, and a smiling young man quickly jogged over from the distance.

"Mr. Bai, and friends—please, just call me Willy. I'll be your guide tonight, taking you through the highlights of New York City."

Despite their varied attire and obvious differences in era, Willy didn't so much as blink. He treated them all like ordinary tourists—and, strangely, so did every passerby they encountered.

"So this is what the future looks like?" Ninth Uncle asked, eyes alight with curiosity as he examined the surroundings with growing excitement.

Willy was an excellent guide. Soon, he was leading the group up through the interior of the statue, promising that afterward they'd board a private yacht to tour the rest of New York.

"Jarvis told me Kingpin spent a fortune to reserve every major landmark in the city and seal them off from the public," Stark said as he walked alongside Bai Ye. "Quite the move—you've outdone even me."

"It's our first gathering," Bai Ye said lightly. "It should be fun. What's the point of meeting up just to sit in silence and awkwardly make small talk? Better to get out, move around, and enjoy the city."

Stark nodded in agreement. Talking with people from completely different eras would've been painfully awkward otherwise.

Following the guide, they ascended through the statue's interior, then boarded a yacht across the bay toward downtown Manhattan.

The sights and futuristic scenery left the ancient guests astonished—but just as they were fully immersed in it, a small interruption broke the mood.

"Hey, isn't that Mr. Bai?"

Inside a restaurant in downtown New York, the group was enjoying dinner when Master Luo's sharp eyes caught something on the television.

The others, all possessing extraordinary eyesight, turned to look.

On the screen, in front of a towering skyscraper, a crowd of people held up signs bearing Bai Ye's face, chanting loudly.

The broadcast lasted only a second before the screen abruptly switched to another channel.
