Chapter 57 - X-Men 1

'Charles Francis Xavier?'

The instant the voice echoed in his mind, Bai Ye became alert, his gaze darting around.

He saw Smith, who had been operating the machine nearby, now looking at him with a calm expression and a gentle smile. It was clear that Professor X had taken over Smith's body.

"I apologize, I may need to borrow your friend's body for a while to speak with you," Smith said apologetically.

"Professor X?" Bai Ye asked tentatively.

As the words left his mouth, a look of surprise flashed across Smith's face. "You know me?"

"I have some impression. Your telepathy and mind control abilities are too terrifying; it's hard to forget."

Bai Ye said, gently setting down the weights in his hands, then pressing the machine's emergency stop button.

With a hiss, the entire device immediately stopped running, releasing Bai Ye from its restraints.

Feeling his body become incredibly light, Bai Ye slowly stepped down from the equipment, staring at Smith and asking, "You haven't already peeked into my brain, have you?"

"Of course not." Professor X gently shook Smith's head and said, "Please believe me, I would not casually pry into other people's memories without permission."

Not casually, meaning he can seriously do it... Bai Ye thought to himself, but he believed that Professor X hadn't invaded his consciousness.

After all, he had too many things hidden in his brain. If Professor X saw them, he definitely wouldn't be so calm.

He might even go crazy, just like Deadpool's slaughter of the Marvel universe, knowing that he was a character from the so-called Marvel comics.

If Professor X really casually peeked into other people's brains, then the Hydra hidden in S.H.I.E.L.D. would have long since fought him to the death.

Then, a hint of surprise appeared on Professor X's face. "And your mental will is thousands of times stronger than that of ordinary people. With my mental strength, if I forcibly invaded your consciousness, the difficulty would be no different from invading the consciousness of thousands of people at the same time. You would definitely notice."

This was what surprised Professor X the most. The reason he was able to find Bai Ye's location so quickly was because Bai Ye's mental energy was too conspicuous.

If the mental energy of ordinary people was like fireflies, Bai Ye was like a torch in the night. When Professor X used his mental abilities to conduct a large-scale search of New York City, he could notice Bai Ye at a glance.

Bai Ye wasn't very surprised by Professor X's words. After all, his current mental attribute had reached 2.7. As long as he focused, it was like having constant bullet time, so being strong mentally was reasonable.

He casually picked up a bottle of Coke from the shelf and took a sip. Bai Ye sat on the steps and asked Professor X, "What does the famous Professor X want from me this time?"

"I want you to bring a child to my school," Charles said. "She has just awakened her mutant abilities and ran away from home because she was afraid. She's currently being pursued by other mutants who covet her abilities."

Bring a child? Mutant? Could it be Rogue? The plot of X-Men 1.

Bai Ye thought to himself as he said, "What does this have to do with me? Can't your X-Men do this?"

"It's too late for the X-Men to go, and actually, this matter does have a bit to do with you," Charles said with a strange smile. "Because that child wants to find you, and she's almost at your doorstep."

"My doorstep... what's going on?" Bai Ye was stunned. "Why would she think to look for me?"

"I think it's probably your public statements in the news, where you claimed to have no prejudice against mutants, plus a little bit of your good looks," Charles said honestly. "Now that child is coming to you based on information found online."

"My statements?" Bai Ye immediately thought of what he'd said during the interview with the reporters, that mutants were also people. So it really was related to him.

"Alright, I need to reconsider your request," Bai Ye said. "Now you need to tell me the girl's identity and why she's being hunted by mutants."

"No problem. The child's name is Marie, and she's currently being hunted by Sabretooth, a mutant under Magneto. As for the reason for the hunt, I don't know." Charles replied.

In fact, at first, he thought Sabretooth was going after Wolverine. He just didn't expect that after Rogue and Wolverine separated, Sabretooth's route would change, and that's when he noticed something was up.

A glint flashed in Bai Ye's eyes: This is really the plot of X-Men 1. In other words, Magneto now has a machine that can turn ordinary people into mutants.

According to the plot of X-Men 1, because Magneto was dissatisfied with humanity's attitude towards mutants, he developed a machine that could transform humans into mutants.

He planned to activate the machine during the global summit, directly transforming all the heads of state below into mutants, thereby changing the situation of mutants.

As a result, the machine would extract mutants' abilities and stamina upon activation. Magneto planned to temporarily transfer his abilities to Rogue, who possessed absorption abilities, allowing her to activate the machine.

Even more outrageous, the mutants transformed by the machine would possess abilities, but their genes would collapse and they would die shortly after.

The movie's ending was the standard cliché of good triumphing over evil, a story where the X-Men foiled Magneto's plot.

Of course, Bai Ye wasn't dissatisfied with the story's ending. What he valued most now was the machine in Magneto's hands that could turn ordinary people into mutants.

Thinking of this, Bai Ye immediately raised his head and said, "Of course there's no problem. Saving people is our duty. Where exactly is Marie now?"

Charles was stunned, looking at Bai Ye's sudden change in attitude, and didn't react immediately, staring blankly at Bai Ye.

"What are you waiting for? Time is of the essence. You're being too slow; what if something dangerous happens?" Bai Ye urged.

Although he didn't know why Bai Ye had suddenly changed so much, it was still a good thing that Bai Ye was willing to help.

Charles nodded and said, "That child is currently near St. Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue, and Sabretooth, who's hunting her, will find her soon."

"After you find the child, please send her to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. I'm counting on you." After saying this, Smith's calm expression immediately became blank. He looked at Bai Ye in confusion and asked, "Boss, how did you get out of the machine?"

"Don't worry about the details." Bai Ye stood up from the ground and said, "You stay here for now. I need to go out and handle something. I'll be back in about an hour."

As the words fell, Bai Ye's figure immediately disappeared from the spot.
