Daphne climbed into the carriage, lifting her skirts carefully as she settled onto the seat. Alice followed her in, sitting across from her.
Outside, she could hear the soft sounds of movement and low voices exchanging instructions.
The carriage started moving.
As they passed through the gates, Daphne leaned toward the window and pulled the curtain aside just a little.
Her mouth pressed into a thin line.
There were knights everywhere. Some rode ahead of the carriage. Others followed closely behind. She even spotted a few positioned farther out, blending into the surroundings but very much present.
Skyblade knights.
She sighed and let the curtain fall back into place. "This is ridiculous."
Alice laughed. "You knew he wouldn't let you go out alone."
"I didn't think he'd send half the army," Daphne muttered.
"He's just being careful."
"That's not careful," Daphne said dryly. "That's excessive."
Alice's smile softened. "That's General Alaric."
