Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 The Storm

It was a stormy night outside, it was just me and my brother, his name is Kodak. Kodak was my older brother, he was 21 years old, and I was 17, my eighteenth birthday was coming up I just had two more months, and I would be 18. Turning 18 was a big moment since that was the age that you would get your powers and can start learning how to use them.

We were in our house late at night during a storm, my father and uncle were gone, I did not ask where they had gone, my father was a mean old man, he didn't like to be asked questions, and my uncle he was very smart, and had a gentler feel to him.

I saw the flash of lightning outside the window, followed by a loud boom of thunder that shook the whole house. My brother walked into the kitchen behind me, he had a bottle in his hands, I could not tell the contents of the bottle, but I could only presume that it was not something I could not drink.

Kodak was six feet two inches tall, he had a thin build, but you could tell he had worked out, he had brown hair which hung over his face sticking over like it had been blown by the wind and froze there. He wore a leather sleeveless jacket showing his entire arms, and he wore black jeans with chains coming down from his pockets.

I knew that the chains were more than just chains, they were chains given to him by our late mother, they had special properties for them that would allow him to fight in combat. And me? What did I get? A stupid little glass ball; I couldn't do anything with a glass ball. How was I supposed to fight with it.

Kodak asked me, "Hey Willow, do you want to play a game while we wait for dad to get home?"

I was really bored, "Yeah I am down for a game, what did you have in mind?"

He explained, "So the game is called Kodak's dominion, so how it works is I am going to go out on the porch, and you have to try and stop me from making it to father's bedroom."

The way the house was designed was when you entered you entered the kitchen, then you passed through the living room, then the dining room, and then you entered a hallway which had five doors, two on the right, two on the left, and one at the very end. The end room was my dad's room, which we were never allowed to enter, so the game was about using wits and defensive measures to stop him.

Kodak had his powers and weapons though, which always gave him the edge, but I never stepped down from a challenge, if I could sharpen my skills then I would take it. "Let's play!"

He stepped outside, and I looked around inside to tell where I would start my defensive measures. Then I heard a loud thump on the porch, I continued walking to the dining room, that was where I was going to start my defensive measures. Then I heard chains hitting the door, Kodak was trying to scare me.

His tactics weren't going to get in my head or slow me down though, I started setting up a barricade in the dining room, that was until I heard a scream outside, it was Kodak.

"Real funny man, I'm not falling for it." I spoke.

He yelled out, "Please help me, Willow."

I ran to the door and opened it, and I saw it, A Druhhnakk, specifically a Greenfang, Greenfangs were second to the bottom of the Druhhnakk. I had not seen one until today, my father and uncle would tell stories of them in battle, but I thought that the war was centered in the cities, I had never expected one to be this far out.

Greenfangs often didn't fight very well, as I stood there looking at the Greenfang standing over my brother it had a long body, with a tail at the end, almost looked like a scorpion tail, it had black eyes, and dark skin, this particular one didn't have anything on it, no clothes, no armor, nothing. He was hunched over my brother's lying body, venom dripping from his fangs.

He had a spike spurting from his head, showing his first victory, my heart felt heavy, and my mind filled with rage.

"Get away from him!" I shouted.

Then another Greenfang dropped down from on top of my house, I went to punch it and it went flying backwards, the one that attacked my brother started scurrying off, I picked up my brothers chain which had a spike at the end, and I threw it towards the creature, I struck it and grabbed on to the chain as best as I could. The blade in the creature right now was designed with a twisted blade to prevent it from coming loose.

The blade started sliding back, it was tearing through the creature's skin, after nearly slicing its body in half the blade finally came out and the alien ran off, it had let out another loud screech and a bunch of Greenfangs jumped down from my roof, there was at least a dozen. They all ran off into the forest surrounding the house.

I knelt down to my brother, "Kodak, please are you ok?"

He was unresponsive, "Kodak! Please answer me!"

He still wasn't responding, I began to cry out.

"Why are you balling little girl?"

It was my dad, he had finally gotten home, he spoke with a deep voice that would carry on so everyone would hear what he had to say, he was tall and big, he was six foot five, he weighed 392 pounds, he had long dark wavy hair that rested about chest length, he wore leather gear and had an axe in hand.

By his side was my uncle, the town called him Bloodsucker, because every alien he would kill he would suck the blood out of to make antivenom for the village, to me he was uncle bloodsucker, he had long silver straight hair that went down to his butt, and he was the same height as Kodak, six foot two inches, he had a more pale look to him, and he didn't have any gear on, not even a weapon.

I turned and looked at them, as soon as they saw my brother on the ground they rushed forward to his body.

"Quick Willow get the antivenom! It's in the kitchen!" My father yelled out to me.

I ran inside and started looking, I couldn't find any antivenom, I was looking through all the spices but there was nothing.

I ran back outside, "We're out of antivenom father."

Then my uncle ran off, I asked my father "Is he alive?"

He asked me, "I need you to tell me exactly what happened."

I started explaining, "We were playing a game, and he was standing out on the porch, I heard him scream and I came out as soon as possible. I saw a Greenfang over his limp body, then another dropped down, I punched it then I picked up Kodaks chains and threw it at the one that did this to him, I managed to pierce him, but he got away."

My dad shouted at me, "Girl this is no time for games! Your brother is dying! I know you didn't pick up his chains, and I know you didn't just punch a Greenfang without getting hurt, the only way to pick up the chains is if you carry the family power and you aren't 18 yet so you couldn't have picked them up, and Druhhnakk are far stronger than any human, so don't expect me that you walked away from a hand to hand with one. So, tell me what really happened."

Before I could explain more my uncle got back with some other village people, they gathered around my brother one of them had a bottle in hand with liquid, they began pouring it down my brother's throat, it was the antivenom he needed.

I overheard my dad say, "Willow said it was a Greenfang, she lied about what happened, but if it really was a Greenfang we can't take any chances."

As they were focused on my brother, I realized that the Greenfang I punched was lying on the ground about twenty feet from us, it wasn't moving. I thought to myself did I kill it? I walked up as rain was pouring down on me, and I poked it, still unresponsive, then I inspected it further, and I noticed a liquid coming from its mouth.

It didn't look like the normal liquid, instead it was pure black, I put it in a vile and I brought it back to my dad. "Hey, look at this, what is this?"

My Father looked at me, and his expression was very unpleasant, "Willow, tell me right now exactly who was here with you guys."

I explained, "I am telling you father, no one was here with us."

My uncle looked at what was going on, once he saw the blood he asked, "Willow, where did you get this?"

I pointed at the Greenfang on the ground.

My uncle then turned to the villagers, "Get him to the infirmary, once you are done come back and get that thing to the lab, leave no traces."

I didn't understand why everything was so dramatic.

My father yelled at me again, "Go to your room! And until you are ready to tell me the truth don't come out!"

I felt this was unfair, I was telling the truth, I went to my room as I was instructed and I laid there looking out the window at the rain, tears began falling from my eyes, and I began sobbing.
