Chapter 110: The Resurrection of Superman
Metropolis, east side. Stryker's Island, near the harbor district.
This was the place of Superman's final battle with Doomsday. That day, Superman perished together with the monster. Entire blocks, including an abandoned factory, were reduced to rubble.
Later, to honor the fallen hero—Superman—the site of battle was rebuilt into a wide memorial square.
Every day, countless citizens passed through the Superman Memorial Square. Even though there were no grand statues or markers, the golden sunlight that shone upon it was enough.
At the very center of the square lay a low memorial platform, upon which stood three tall black stone slabs, etched with Superman's greatest deeds.
That afternoon—
Step.
A black-haired man, bare-chested and only wearing a pair of black trousers, descended from the sky onto the memorial platform.
He looked to be in his early thirties, his face chiseled like stone, his figure tall and powerful, muscles like steel, each line flowing with strength.
The man landed barefoot on the cold stone tiles. His dark eyes carried only confusion and bewilderment, as if he himself didn't know why he had come.
His gaze fell to the center of the platform—at the three stone slabs. On the ground beneath them, a massive "S" symbol was carved. Beside it were words written in English:
"If you seek his monument, look around you."
The man's eyes grew more uncertain. Who was this "he"? Why did the emblem feel so familiar?
Before he could think further—
Four figures arrived, each with their own extraordinary powers.
Aquaman, Arthur Curry, landed with a thunderous leap, wielding his silver trident. Wonder Woman, Diana, descended from above in her battle armor. Cyborg, Victor Stone, powered by red-glowing energy, dropped from the sky. And last, crackling silver lightning streaked across the plaza—The Flash, Barry Allen, stopped in a blur.
Had Xi Nian been there, he would have recognized them instantly. These were the standard members of the Justice League—his aunt's old comrades.
Well, all except one founder, who was still on his way…
"We really did it," Diana murmured as she looked at the man on the platform.
Yes.
That man, the black-haired stranger, was none other than the once-fallen hero—
The god among men. Superman. Kal-El.
But Superman's eyes narrowed at the sight of them, filled with confusion and wariness.
Something was wrong.
The League members sensed it instantly.
"He's scanning us," Cyborg muttered, his left cybernetic eye glowing red.
"No way," Aquaman and Flash both tensed.
"He doesn't know who he is," Diana realized. Superman's resurrection was incomplete. His memories were broken.
And then—
Cyborg's mechanical body suddenly twitched. The Mother Box technology within him, drawn from Apokolips, instinctively feared the Kryptonian before them. His body reacted on its own—
His left arm shifted, transforming into a weapon. A missile launched straight at Superman!
Boom!
Superman easily sidestepped, but the missile struck behind him, blasting one of the black stone slabs to pieces.
"This is bad," the League members' faces darkened.
As expected—
Superman's confused gaze hardened into something else. Hostility.
The savior they had revived was about to become their enemy.
…
Half a minute later.
The square was a battlefield. The stone slabs lay in ruins, the ground shattered. Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg were all sprawled out in defeat.
It wasn't that they were weak.
It was that Superman's power was beyond their level. Even four against one, they couldn't last a minute. It was like children trying to fight an adult.
And compared to ordinary humans, they were already far below ants.
Superman's eyes still glowed faintly red with heat vision as he seized the last standing member—Wonder Woman—by the shoulder strap of her armor. With a roar, he slammed his forehead against hers.
Clang!
The blow was caught by the divine tiara she wore.
"Kal-El, wake up!" Diana shouted, retaliating with her own headbutt. The force rocked Superman's head back.
It was the hardest strike they had managed to land so far.
But it only enraged him further. A wave of crushing pressure exploded from his body.
With a surge of power, Superman floated upward, glaring coldly down at her. His head pulled back—and then he lunged forward, aiming another skull-cracking headbutt.
The sound barrier shattered.
Diana's eyes widened. She had no time to dodge.
But just as his strike was about to land, a black figure dropped from the heavens, planting firmly in front of her.
The ground cracked beneath his feet. A black cape billowed behind him.
He raised one hand—and with only the back of his palm, blocked Superman's furious blow.
Boom!
The air itself exploded from the impact, a shockwave tearing outward.
"This is impossible!" Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg stared in disbelief. Someone had just stopped Superman's attack head-on.
Even Superman himself looked shocked.
The newcomer stood tall in a pitch-black Kryptonian suit. His height was just over one-eighty, his features sharp yet youthful, his body sculpted like steel, black hair whipping wildly.
"You are…" Diana's blue eyes widened as she stared at him.
Though he looked older, more mature, stronger than ever before, she recognized him instantly.
It was Xi Nian.
No—
More accurately—
It was Black Superman Xi Nian!
