Elias stood frozen in the small living room as Viktor's whisper echoed in his ears.
"It's a territorial war that I don't want you to get involved in. It'll happen at the end of the year. It's... big and dangerous. I might not come back... Alive."
Elias's stomach dropped immediately as he heard that.
"What? What do you mean by that? Are you going to kill yourself?"
Viktor stepped back, running a hand through his hair.
"I never said I was going to kill myself, sweetheart. Are you worried?"
"Shut up," Elias frowned at him.
"Haha! Every year, the big families fight for territory. This one will happen in a few weeks. It's not just about guns and deals anymore. It's everything. Lives. Cities. Territory. My rivals know about you now. That's why I need you and Lila to be safe. At the estate."
Elias sighed heavily as he tried to calm himself after everything he heard.
"So... you're going to war and you could die in that very war?"
Viktor gave a short, bitter laugh.
