Chapter 4 - Ch 4: Blood.

"Blood."

The reason we turned into blood bags, the reason we're hunted and regarded in the same light as chickens.

Levi thought as its claws were dug deep into his shoulder, his back against the wall.

Raising his hands—he pushed it back.

Bringing up his fists and readying his stance, the sharp blooming white pain whistled in his shoulder.

"You're gonna regret that," It hissed, it lunged after Levi—grabbing him and throwing him through a wall as the cement debris flew wild.

BOOM.

Faster than he could react—he was already through the wall on his back, a searing pain rose all over his body and he coughed up red.

'This is bad... If the other get here before I'm done with this guy I'm done for.'

He twisted as he got back on his feet and clenched his feets.

"Nice... You're gonna be fun to break."

It lunged for Levi.

BAM.

Before his hands could reach Levi connected—elbow jab to the nose that sprung it back.

He bent down— he threw the debris into the air—creating a smokescreen.

Red trickled down its nose, it staggered back to maintain its stance before being blinded by the dust.

BAM.

Fist to the temple—as Levi's fist broke through the smoke.

"No matter how strong you are, you still need to see."

He locked his fist— he swung it in a brutal arc against its jaw with enough force to crack a tooth.

It stumbled back as blood sprayed from its mouth painted the old walls.

The smell of garlic, dust, sweat and iron filled the air.

Levi walked slowly as the debris finally began to settle—

KKKRRSH!

Levi's back went through the glass in a room, the shards of glass tore through his shirt and decorated his back leaving cuts everywhere.

His vision swarming as he finally opened his eyes, there were three of them now, "Oh, fuck me."

He tracked back on all fours as they marched towards him, fangs out and ready to devour as he reached for his pocket.

Click.

"AARGHHH."

They all screamed in unison as radiating white light tore through the windows from the outside, the smell of burning flesh— the fragrance of the day.

They all cowered in the corner to escape the light as Levi stood slowly, the cuts in his back making him clench his jaw as he did.

He clutched the side of his head— it throbbed, chest heaving without rest and the white part of his hair was now dark with smoke.

He stumbled as he could barely stand, dropping to one knee as he brought his gaze to see them crouched in the corner hiding from the light.

'I can't actually believe that worked... Adding UV rays as head lights in my truck, but it won't last for long so I have to act fast.'

Mmmhm.

He groaned as he balanced on his other knee and descending back the flight of stairs to get the duffle bag, the vampires in the first floor now nothing but dried up husks.

Levi opened the bag to bring out bottles of gasoline, dropped the lids on the floor and began drenching every inch of the place with gasoline.

Snff-snff.

They sniffed the gasoline as they pushed each for the book of the corner.

Levi's silhouette emerged from the stairs as whistled along, paying them no heed.

"Wait."

The D-Class whispered for Levi.

He ignored it, making sure nothing was left dry even heading to the corner as he bathed them in gasoline.

He crawled deeper into the corner as they raised her hands to stop him but to no avail.

"Wait wait... WAIT!"

He dropped the now empty bottle on the floor as he tilted his head, his face gleaming in the light, pointing at the car out the window, "UV rays."

He shook his head as a slight smile tugged against his lips, walking away as his voice echoed through the halls, "Another thing that makes you, not human."

"Mmhm." He crouched down in front of them.

He grabbed one's arm... Dragging it into the light as he used his knee to pin him down, its bellowing screams ringing through the air.

Levi raised his voice, trying to drown out the screams to the vampire scratching for escape under his knee as its skin burnt from 1 to 3 degree burns.

He lazily pointed his figure to it below him, "Melanin... It's supposed to scatter UV rays and make them less..."

The screams were defeaning as he took off his knuckles and rammed it into its mouth, possibly down its throat.

".... less painful. But you see vampires don't have that, instead your pigment is just a photo reactive hemoglobin variant... While it makes your skin flesh and ductile, it doesn't handle UV rays which is why you turn to this."

The vampire below him now nothing but a mass of raw flesh and muscle, it sizzled more and more as the edges of his body were now charred.

He stood back up as he dusted off his knees and reached for his pocket again.

But then he heard it—

Splut-splut-splut.

The engine of the car spurted out.

There's a reason why no one connects UV rays to a 12-Volt lead-acid battery.

The headlights of the car flashed—once, twice—

In the dark, the only light were the glowing blue eyes of the D-Class Vampire as it crouched down in the corner... Waiting for the last flicker.

The other was next to him, sickly yellow, from terrified to hungry as they waited for the last sparks of the light.

Levi stumbled back, placing one foot behind the other as he backpedaled hard, crushing the places of glass behind him.

His heart pounding in his throat as the thought ran through his head.

'This was a monumentally dumb idea.'

Darkness.

The lights finally let out as Levi bolted for the nearest possible exit.

They wasted no time lunging after him.

He didn't turn, didn't need his eyes to tell him they were after him as they scribbled on all fours.

He pushed a medical cart to block their path as their snake-like eyes glowed through the dark.

CLANG.

The cart but the ground maybe only stopping them for a second as they continued.

Levi turned the corner, hiding behind a pillar—

BAM!

All his weight packed into one punch as he bashed the E-Class face in knocking it out.

The D-Class wouldn't be that easy though—

Argh!

Levi screamed as its claws scratch across his back, falling to the floor he turned over to see the vampire looming over him.

In a panic he turned his head— left, then right.

There was nothing left for him to use.

He tried to get up but his bodily limit had been reached, even moving a finger came with tremendous pain.

It protruded its claws, drool dripping out its mouth as a helpless Levi stood in front of him.

'So this is how I die—couldn't even avenge my family... What a joke.'

It raised its hand into the air, just before driving it into Levi—

KRRRSH!

The windows all around them imploded as numerous figures in armoured suits bursted in.

Its hand froze in the air as the Laster from their guns darted all over the place before finally settling in its forehead.

Silence filled the air as no one dared move, they didn't shoot—not yet—the order hasn't been given.

Now it was.

RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!

Their guns flared to life as they riddled its body with bullets.

Levi crouched his head down in the corner trying not to catch a stray bullet before he noticed, "what's that smell...

...its silver bullets."

Its body remained standing as bullets from every corner somehow balanced him and left him on his two feet, red trickling from the numerous holes left in its bullet with a silver ooze that spewed from its mouth.

THUD.

It finally hit the floor.

Levi leaned against the walls using it to drag himself up as his muscles had practically given up, whatever these guys were, they were definitely dangerous.

Just as he got on his feet—

Beep-beep-beep.

A device on the holster of one of the soldiers began to ring as they wasted no time aiming their guns for Levi now.

He pushed his back against the wall, "what the hell is going on here?"

They said nothing but exchanged glances at each other as if not sure what to do before one stepped out, his boots heavy against the floor tainted with blood, bullet shells and shards of glass.

Finally reaching Levi as he brought his tightened his gaze, his eyes the only thing visible through their masks.

He took a step back, brought forth his glock from the holster, spun it, and planted the back of it against Levi's skull hard enough to crack it.

He dropped to the floor with a thud.
