Chapter 1: First Day, First Mistake
I sprinted through the glass doors of Blackridge Corp, my heels clicking loudly on the marble floor. My new job as a secretary wasn't supposed to be this terrifying… yet here I was, heart hammering, hands trembling.
"Miss… Mathews?" The receptionist's voice barely reached me over the chaos of ringing phones and clacking keyboards.
"Y-Yes!" I panted.
I dashed toward the elevator, ignoring the stares of employees already judging me for being late. Just my luck… the elevator doors slid open, and there he was.
Tall. Sharp. Cold. The new CEO I'd only seen in photos. Dark suit. Perfect hair. A gaze that could freeze fire.
I tried to bow politely.
He didn't move. Didn't even blink.
I fumbled with my coffee cup, trying to balance my bag in the other hand… and then it happened.
Coffee spilled. All over him.
"Oh my God!" I shrieked, stepping back.
He stared down at the brown stain spreading across his crisp white shirt. His eyes were dark, stormy… terrifying.
"You… spilled coffee on me?" His voice was low, dangerous, controlled.
"I-I'm so sorry! I didn't mean—"
He raised a single hand, silencing me. Then, unexpectedly, a smirk curved his lips.
"If you want to keep this job," he said, leaning slightly closer, "you'll personally make it up to me… starting tonight."
My throat went dry. My heart? Racing like never before.
I wanted to say no. I wanted to run. But something in his gaze made me hesitate…
Something that whispered: This was just the beginning.
