Tony Stark spoke as he suddenly pulled Peter Parker's suit out from its hiding place.
Now there was no way for Peter to deny it.
"So… you're Spider-Man?" Tony asked with a grin. "The crime-fighting Spider, Spider-Boy?"
Unquestionably, the older and more experienced Tony completely dominated the conversation, leading Peter around by the nose.
Everyone watching this scene couldn't help but chuckle.
"Yes… I'm Spider-Man!" Peter replied, a bit embarrassed. He hated being called "Spider-Boy."
"And you call this a hero suit… a onesie?" Tony instinctively teased.
Though Tony wasn't the most talkative, his sarcasm could certainly compete for first place.
"This isn't a onesie!" Peter immediately protested. Then he rambled, "Mr. Stark, I've actually had a pretty smooth day—didn't miss the subway, effortlessly picked up a decent DVD player, and aced my algebra test!"
Tony interrupted his rambling. "And nobody knows? Not even your charming aunt?"
"No, she doesn't. If she knew, she'd freak out. And if she freaks out… so would I!" Peter admitted, clearly fearing Aunt May's reaction.
"Know why I think this web is amazing? Because of its tensile strength. Who made it?" Tony asked, impressed with Peter's ingenuity. At such a young age, he had already developed something comparable to what Tony had done in his youth. "And how do you stick to walls? Sticky gloves?"
Peter explained, "Ever since… that incident, my senses have become incredibly sharp. I can receive too much information at once, so I wear these gloves to help me focus."
"You need an upgrade!" Tony suggested. "From head to toe—a full systematic overhaul. That's why I'm here!"
Tony then asked curiously, "What drives you? What gets you up every morning to do this?"
Peter grew nervous. "Because… I've lived a very ordinary life. Six months ago, I got this power. I studied, played on the computer…"
Peter expressed the troubles of a young teenage boy.
Tony watched him, struck by how the kid seemed to be confiding in him like a father figure. He began to understand why, in the future, they would share a bond akin to father and son.
It was hard to be harsh with a child who had lost all his family, leaving only Aunt May, who wasn't even related by blood.
Then Peter said something that impressed everyone:"With great power comes responsibility. If you have it and do nothing, the bad that happens afterward is on you!"
Many superheroes may have had this thought, but no one had expressed it so clearly in a single sentence.
Immediately, Tony invited Peter to join the Avengers.
Next, Captain Rogers began recruiting.
In the Avengers' base, Vision and Wanda Maximoff were in a mansion. Suddenly, an explosion outside lit the sky.
Two figures appeared in the firelight—one with red skin and a tight suit, cape flowing; the other a slightly older Wanda.
"What's happening?" Wanda asked.
"Stay here," Vision replied, passing through the walls.
Tony watched Vision, noting how human-shaped but not fully human he seemed. Even stranger, his voice sounded almost identical to J.A.R.V.I.S.—something was off.
Sensing danger, Wanda quickly used her chaos magic to fling a fruit knife, nearly striking the newcomer.
The intruder was none other than Clint Barton—Hawkeye.
"I guess I should've knocked first," Hawkeye said with a smile.
Wanda was shocked. "What are you doing here?"
"My kids are going to be disappointed!" he replied, firing two arrows inside the room. "I was supposed to take them ice skating, but the captain needs our help. Let's go."
Outside the scene, Tony saw Hawkeye's arrival—clearly, everyone was taking sides.
Except for Bruce Banner, everyone else was joining one of the factions.
Hawkeye shrugged; he had no choice but to side with his teammates.
Wanda noticed her future self in the diary videos, realizing she had fully integrated into the Avengers by then.
Vision returned, calling out:"Clint, you shouldn't have come."
"I retired five minutes ago, and the world's already in chaos," Hawkeye said.
Vision slowly approached, warning:"Consider the consequences of your actions."
"I have," Hawkeye replied.
Vision was stopped by traps set earlier—two electrically charged arrows.
"Time to go," Hawkeye said, trying to lead Wanda away.
But Wanda hesitated, feeling guilty. She blamed herself for the Sokovia incident and the ensuing casualties. Staying put was both a restriction and a protection.
Hawkeye insisted, "You need to help, Wanda. If you sulk, go to school. Want to make amends? Act now!"
Suddenly, Vision broke free, demonstrating immense power, controlling Hawkeye between reality and phantasm. Hawkeye felt powerless, embarrassed—he knew he was one of the weaker Avengers, and anyone could overwhelm him.
"Maybe I should try some upgrades…" Hawkeye muttered dejectedly.
"Clint, you can't beat me," Vision said.
"I know… but she can," Hawkeye replied.
Wanda acted, summoning chaos magic:"Vision, enough! Let him go—I'm leaving."
Vision tried to resist, saying: "If you do this, the world will fear you forever."
"I can't control their fear, only my own," Wanda retorted, sending Vision crashing down the floor.
Elsewhere, Captain Rogers, Falcon, and Winter Soldier rescued Sharon Carter, stealing gear, then drove to join Hawkeye and Wanda.
They were joined by a new hero: Scott Lang—Ant-Man.
Before leaving, Tony's team noticed them. Germany's international airport was evacuated.
Captain Rogers walked out in full gear. Tony and Rhodey blocked him.
"Wow… it's weird running into friends everywhere, isn't it?"
"Very weird!"
Tony and Rhodey responded in sync, humorously.
"Listen, Tony—the psychiatrist is the mastermind!" Captain Rogers tried to explain.
A figure in black leapt down.
"Captain!"
It was T'Challa—Black Panther.
For the onlookers, it was overwhelming. Many new heroes appeared, previously unseen: Black Panther, Ant-Man, Vision, Spider-Man, Wanda.
"This scale… I see why Lin Feng called this the 2.5 Avengers Assembly," Hawkeye said. "I've never seen this many superheroes in one place, not even during the Chitauri invasion."
Happy New Year to everyone!
