Since Lin Feng was genuinely keeping a diary, and in this era very few people actually write diaries—let alone write them coherently—
Who could really write a diary without going off-topic?
Even a few failing authors in a group chat could derail a conversation, so writing a diary without digressing was practically impossible.
Everyone had a bit of a headache. This Avengers Civil War, as they read along, spiraled into Lin Feng ranting about Spider-Man—more than one Spider-Man, actually. His thoughts jumped around unpredictably.
"Can't he just stick to the point, deal with one thing at a time?" Barton muttered.
Natasha, Black Widow, smiled faintly. "But if he didn't think like this, jumping from one idea to another, how would we know all these things? If he wrote a proper diary, recording the weather and daily events, we wouldn't have learned half of this."
The others had to admit she was right. They relied on Lin Feng's chaotic logic to uncover information they otherwise shouldn't have known. So they had no choice but to tolerate his scattered thought process.
"This Civil War is huge—it could be considered a full Avengers gathering…" Natasha said.
As for mentions of Captain America 3 or Avengers 2.5, she ignored them entirely.
Lin Feng often used strange terms, and assigned weird nicknames and inexplicable jokes to people.
For example, there was a joke about her drinking bathwater. Natasha didn't know where it came from, and it gave her chills—who would drink someone else's bathwater?
There were many such jokes. Sometimes Captain Rogers was called "Peach Boss." She had no idea why.
So they learned to ignore the trivial details and focus on the truly important information.
"Seems like they're recruiting allies… quite a few people are taking sides," Tony Stark said, rubbing his forehead in frustration.
If true, this Civil War would be enormous.
"But are they really fighting over such a small thing?" Tony frowned. If it was just about the Winter Soldier, Bucky, splitting the Avengers seemed extreme.
Even if someone died, there were ways to handle it.
Then he saw the next entry: "Dutch Spider."
This referred to their timeline's Spider-Man—the Holland Spider-Man.
Though they didn't know the origin of the nickname, they could now recognize him.
So this "Dutch Spider" first appeared during this Civil War.
"Judging by the timing, Peter Parker would have to be at least 13 or 14 to become Spider-Man—probably 14–15, maybe even 16," Tony said. "At that point, what major event triggered the Avengers' split? Could it be linked to Hydra, like in our normal timeline?"
"Not impossible," Nick Fury said, rubbing his brow. "But Tony, I never thought you'd become someone else's godfather, and that you'd be so close to Peter Parker. Hard to imagine."
Everyone nodded.
Indeed, with Tony's free-spirited personality, it was hard to picture him shielding someone else's kid.
Tony was a little embarrassed—he wasn't thinking about such things himself. In fact, he was a DINK (Double Income, No Kids) type—rich, free, and unburdened.
Especially given his father's psychological shadow, he instinctively recoiled from family life.
He'd never told anyone: he feared he'd be a bad father.
Howard Stark hadn't been a good role model, and Tony lacked confidence in himself. He didn't want to repeat his father's mistakes.
Even his own kids would be risky, let alone someone else's.
Yet Lin Feng seemed to suggest Tony could do it—he could be a father figure.
"Maybe when I'm older, my thoughts will change," Tony muttered. "But even then, I shouldn't spoil the child, especially a boy. Without enough challenges, how can he grow? Damn, I sound more and more like my dad—but strangely, I kind of agree with him this time."
The others found Tony's inner struggle amusing.
Yet his reasoning made sense. After all, judging by Peter Parker's future actions—even causing a multiverse incident because of his talkativeness—the stakes were high.
"But Tony, remember, he comes from a normal family. He wasn't prepared to save the world," Natasha said meaningfully. "You can't expect too much or be too harsh on him."
Tony immediately understood.
The elite education of rich kids isn't the same as the free upbringing of ordinary kids.
Rich kids are told they're meant to rule the world, to endure hardship for knowledge, to prepare for the future.
Ordinary kids are told to have fun—they're not expected to save the world.
Given this environment, Peter Parker not turning into a failure was already impressive.
"He's just a kid, doing street-level hero work, fighting petty criminals—it's a decent choice. The battlefield doesn't need a child," Hill said.
Because Lin Feng had killed the criminal, Kingpin, the latter's reputation was drastically reduced—he was now seen as just a street thug.
Tony disagreed. "He's not just a kid; he's a superhero. On the battlefield, no one will treat him as a child. The Chitauri invaded—would they spare him because of his age? Dormammu tried to devour Earth—would he spare him? Thanos rebooted the universe—would he spare children? And Lin Feng said he's my successor, the true next-gen Iron Man. If he inherits my legacy and spirit, he cannot just act like a kid. I know it's harsh, but we have no choice!"
Unexpectedly, Steve Rogers nodded. "Tony's right. On the battlefield, age doesn't matter. Once he becomes a superhero, he's a warrior. He can't avoid his responsibilities. Especially when our generation dies, he must carry the torch. Don't forget—in Lin Feng's prophecy, we're likely all doomed."
Everyone paused, realizing their potential mortality.
Time might change, but survival wasn't guaranteed.
"He's our spark. We have high expectations. He may be a child, but don't treat him as one," Rogers said, leaving the others speechless.
Cruel, but necessary.
Tony sighed. He never expected that the one who most understood him here would be Steve Rogers.
"Still, there are so many Spider-Men! Aside from the weird ones, there's Holland Spider-Man, Tobey Spider-Man, Garfield Spider-Man, then the new Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man. All these Spider-Man names are so cool!" Barton said, scanning the text. "Wow, this Amazing Spider-Man really had it rough—cheated on for four years! Hard to imagine a kid that age even having a girlfriend, let alone getting cheated on. Poor kid."
All the men could empathize—it wasn't a pleasant experience.
Especially since Peter Parker was still a child, it made them pity him even more.
"But this shows Lin Feng cares about Spider-Man," Natasha said. "But I have a feeling… in their universe, maybe they recorded our multiverse stories and made movies or animations out of them?"
