Chapter 56 - A Crisis That Once Affected Half the Universe?

Doctor Strange slowly descended from the image, then complained, "Yeah, because someone forgot to cast the spell to close the portal tightly!"

But as soon as he finished speaking, he slipped, nearly falling flat on his face. The high-level sorcerer vibe he'd been exuding vanished instantly.

Seeing this, everyone couldn't help but smile knowingly. It was hilarious to see those sorcerers acting all cool.

"That's right, it was him. He forgot that my rank is higher!" Wong said, hands on his hips, sounding very self-righteous.

"Higher rank?" Doctor Strange was speechless.

"The Sorcerer Supreme has the highest rank!" Wong declared proudly.

Everyone's hearts clenched at the mention of Sorcerer Supreme. The previous Sorcerer Supreme was called the Ancient One. Although they hadn't met her yet, they knew from Lin Feng's diary how terrifying she was.

And this Wong, from the video of Doctor Strange's battle with Dormammu, didn't seem nearly as powerful.

It seemed that although the Sorcerer Supreme held the highest position, they weren't necessarily the strongest. The Ancient One's strength wasn't due to her title of Sorcerer Supreme, but because she was ridiculously strong on her own.

Hearing this, Peter Parker rubbed his hands together to warm them up and said, "I thought you were the Sorcerer Supreme!"

Doctor Strange couldn't help but say, "He took over while I was blipped out for five years!"

"Oh, congratulations!" Spider-Man, Peter Parker, didn't know what else to say.

"If I were there..." Doctor Strange couldn't help but try to salvage his reputation, but Wong immediately cut him off.

"You'd have burned this place to the ground!" Wong interrupted his self-aggrandizement, then walked to the side and said to the two sorcerer apprentices, "You two, keep shoveling snow!"

"So Peter, what brings you here today?"

Doctor Strange was also surprised to see Peter Parker; why would Spider-Man come to see him?

Of course, if he knew how much trouble Peter Parker would cause him today, he would probably have turned him away immediately.

"Em… I'm sorry to bother you, sir, but…" Peter Parker said a little awkwardly, not knowing what to call him for a moment.

Although they had fought side by side before and even gone to other planets, they were comrades who had shared life and death. But in reality, they weren't familiar with each other at all. They were completely strangers.

"Come on, we once worked together to save half the universe, alright?" Doctor Strange smiled faintly, adding another log to the fireplace to warm the Sanctum. "You still call me sir, that's too formal!"

"Alright, Stephen!" Peter Parker said immediately.

"Sounds weird, but I'm OK with it!" Doctor Strange said.

Team up to save half the universe?

Everyone's eyes lit up. If this Doctor Strange wasn't just spouting nonsense, then it was highly likely that an unimaginable, universe-level crisis had occurred before this current point in time.

So much so that after they resolved it, they could even claim to have saved half the universe.

Especially Tony Stark. He'd been leaning towards his future self dying from palladium poisoning, but now he wondered if it was due to the crisis that affected half the universe, as mentioned.

That would fit the death of a super genius, rather than dying pathetically from palladium poisoning.

"After Mysterio exposed my identity, my life became a mess. I don't know if it'll work, but I was thinking, maybe you could reverse time and stop him!" Peter Parker voiced his thoughts. He wanted Doctor Strange to use the Time Stone to turn back time and prevent the situation from happening in the first place.

The people outside the screen seemed to understand Peter Parker's idea. They had genuinely witnessed Doctor Strange reversing time. That scene truly opened up a whole new world to them; they'd never imagined anyone could turn back time.

The shock they felt when they saw it with their own eyes was unimaginable.

At this moment, Doctor Strange refused, saying, "Peter, we've already twisted the stability of space-time to save countless lives. Your life became a mess, and you want to do it again?"

Everyone present was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. What did it all mean? They had twisted spacetime before?

Even if it was to save people, just hearing about it didn't sound like a small matter!

Could it be the crisis of saving half the universe that Doctor Strange had mentioned earlier?

The questions in everyone's minds multiplied, but the information they had was too limited to make a more effective judgment.

But there was no doubt that before 2017, a crisis of unimaginable scale had occurred, affecting half the universe. Ultimately, it was likely that Doctor Strange, a powerful figure in the magical world, had used some kind of magic to distort the unstable situation and achieve the final goal.

Hearing Doctor Strange's refusal, Peter Parker quickly said, "It's not just me. Many people have suffered. Aunt May, Happy, and my best friend, and my girlfriend... their futures have all been ruined. They did nothing wrong, they were just implicated because of me!"

If it had only involved him, he might have felt better. But now, these innocent people around him, whom he cherished the most, were being dragged down by him. He was filled with guilt he couldn't control.

He might have to live under everyone's surveillance for the rest of his life, but he didn't want his family, friends, and loved ones to be implicated because of him.

Hearing this, everyone couldn't help but nod. They would have the same needs because they felt they were protecting the public, or even, on a higher level, protecting humanity.

But they didn't want this job to involve anyone close to them.

No one understood Peter Parker's feelings better than they did.

"Well... it's a shame, but even if I wanted to, I don't have the Time Stone anymore!" Doctor Strange said.

The Time Stone in their world had been destroyed by Thanos long ago. Even the stones they used to save them this time were borrowed from other timelines.

Everyone perked up their ears because they heard the most crucial piece of information.

Time Stone!

"So, that glowing green thing on his chest is called the Time Stone!" Tony Stark muttered to himself.
