Chapter 5: The Late Obito
"Kurenai, what's going on?"
He panicked, completely panicked. Sarutobi Asuma asked in a fluster.
Kurenai Yūhi blinked, not understanding why he was reacting so strongly.
They hadn't known each other for long, and being so young, she wasn't romantically aware. She just treated him as a friend.
She didn't know how damaging that last sentence was, enough to make Sarutobi Asuma instantly fall into despair and turn into a clown.
"It's like this."
Kurenai Yūhi briefly explained the whole story.
Sarutobi Asuma listened, fuming and trembling in broad daylight.
The culprit was his own old man?
He was a rebellious youth now, not wanting to live in Hiruzen Sarutobi's shadow, so he was usually at odds with him.
"Asuma?"
Kurenai Yūhi noticed something amiss and asked, "Why is your face red?"
"Ah, nothing."
Sarutobi Asuma composed himself, forcing a smile.
"We'll be late soon; let's go."
Kurenai Yūhi didn't think much of it and walked forward.
Sarutobi Asuma followed behind her, the corner of his eye drifting towards Hoshikawa.
Hoshikawa's mouth twitched slightly.
Asuma had been staring at him the whole way, reminding him of a certain meme.
I will always watch you... forever and ever... jpg.
"Asuma, I'm taking Hoshikawa to the teacher's office. You can go back to class first."
Upon arriving at the Ninja Academy, Kurenai Yūhi spoke.
"I can take him!"
Sarutobi Asuma volunteered.
"No."
Kurenai Yūhi refused, saying, "This is a mission my dad gave me."
"But..."
Sarutobi Asuma tried to argue further, but Kurenai Yūhi and Hoshikawa had already turned and left.
No!
He looked at their retreating figures, instinctively raising his hand.
That hateful Hoshikawa brat!
Sarutobi Asuma's face was filled with indignation.
Teacher's Office.
Hoshikawa handed the enrollment notice to a young ninja.
According to Kurenai Yūhi's introduction, his name was Yamamoto Eiichirō, an ordinary Chunin.
"Hoshikawa-kun, welcome to Class 1-A."
Eiichirō closed the enrollment notice, a wide smile on his face.
He had to take a student specially authorized by Hiruzen Sarutobi seriously.
"Thank you, sensei."
Hoshikawa greeted him quite politely.
Eiichirō nodded slightly.
Looks like he wasn't a troublesome student.
"Kurenai, you can leave now."
Eiichirō explained, "I'll take Hoshikawa to the classroom."
"Alright."
Kurenai Yūhi winked at Hoshikawa, then left without lingering.
"These are the first-year textbooks."
Eiichirō picked up a stack of books from the table.
Hoshikawa counted them; there were seven books in total.
The topmost one read, Chakra Concepts and Molding Techniques.
"There are a few minutes left before class starts; you can take a look if you want."
Eiichirō reminded him with a smile.
"Mm."
Since time was short, Hoshikawa quickly flipped through the table of contents.
Shurikenjutsu, The Will of Fire, Ninja Conduct, and Konoha History, among others—it seemed to have everything.
Hoshikawa remembered a senior fan in his previous life analyzing the Chunin Exam's written portion, finding questions on English, chemistry, and physics.
Although theoretically, graduating as a Genin only required the Three Basic Jutsu, the Ninja Academy actually taught quite a lot.
Ding-a-ling-ling!
The class bell rang.
"Let's go."
Eiichirō picked up a book and walked out.
Hoshikawa quickly followed.
They soon arrived at Class 1-A.
Eiichirō walked to the front of the classroom.
Hoshikawa stood at the doorway, but he had already been noticed by many, with various curious gazes scrutinizing him.
Among them, some girls' eyes glowed green, as if they would devour him the next moment.
Hoshikawa immediately spotted Kakashi Hatake.
His white hair and strange mask made him hard to miss.
In the original story, he graduated at five, became a Chunin at six, and a Jonin at thirteen—an absolute genius ninja.
In the future, he would also be a disciple of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and the team leader for Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha.
The seat to Kakashi Hatake's left was empty, and to his right was a little girl who, if he wasn't mistaken, was Rin Nohara.
Her features were also very distinct: short brown hair, a gentle face, and two purple markings on her cheeks.
The empty seat must be Obito Uchiha's.
This future major villain, the rising morning sun, was now a clumsy dead last.
"Ahhh!"
Just then, a beast-like scream echoed.
Hoshikawa subconsciously turned his head and saw a boy roughly his age.
He was wearing a track jacket and sunglasses, his face red from exertion, charging at full speed.
"Get out of the way!"
The boy saw him and quickly shouted.
Hoshikawa took a step back.
The boy zipped into the classroom.
He stopped, but because he was running too fast, he braked several times back and forth, then fell to the ground in a "flat wild goose" style.
"You're late again, Obito."
Eiichirō shook his head.
"Sorry, sensei."
Obito Uchiha climbed back up and explained, "I helped an old lady cross the street, and it took some time."
"Try a different excuse next time."
Eiichirō said somewhat helplessly.
"I'm telling the truth!"
Obito Uchiha quickly argued.
"Go back to your seat."
Eiichirō naturally didn't believe him.
Who helps old ladies cross the street every single day?
"Rin."
Obito Uchiha sat down in his seat and called out to Rin Nohara.
"Good morning, Obito."
Rin Nohara said softly.
"Hehehe."
Obito Uchiha immediately chuckled foolishly.
"Before class starts, I have an announcement to make."
Eiichirō tapped the podium.
Everyone immediately quieted down; the smart students had already guessed it was about Hoshikawa.
"Starting today, Hoshikawa-kun will be joining our class. Everyone, please welcome him!"
Eiichirō finished speaking and clapped.
Applause filled the classroom, but some didn't clap, like Sarutobi Asuma.
He looked at Kurenai Yūhi excitedly clapping nearby and felt his eyes sting with jealousy. I'm eating lemons!
"This new classmate is quite good-looking."
A short-haired girl sitting behind Rin Nohara couldn't help but comment.
"Rin, what do you think?"
Obito Uchiha looked alert.
Rin Nohara noticed his expression and hesitated for a moment.
She did think Hoshikawa was handsome, but saying so would definitely displease Obito Uchiha.
"Being good-looking is useless; it's about strength."
Kakashi Hatake said coolly.
"You arrogant jerk!"
Obito Uchiha was stung by the word "strength" and said, "Once I awaken my Sharingan, I'll make you kneel!"
He had always believed that Rin Nohara paid more attention to Kakashi Hatake because he was strong.
"I think Kakashi is right!"
A spirited young man in a green bodysuit in the front row suddenly turned around, flashed a bright smile, and gave a thumbs-up.
"Alright, Hoshikawa-kun, please introduce yourself."
Eiichirō raised his hand, interrupting their chatter.
