Chapter 38 - Yusuke’s Wrath

Chapter 38 – Yusuke's Wrath

"I never expected Kirigakure's shinobi to resort to an assassination attempt like that," Minato said, his voice heavy with concern.

Dan Kato nodded solemnly. "Seems like this so-called peace won't last much longer."

"Another war, huh..." Yusuke muttered, his tone quiet and thoughtful.

"For now, we should return to the village and report this to the Hokage. This place isn't safe anymore," Minato suggested.

The others agreed. Without Kafu slowing them down this time, the return journey to Konoha took only two days.

But as they approached the village gates, Yusuke felt a dark, pressing weight settle in his chest. Something wasn't right. The unease grew stronger with every step.

"That's the son of that traitor, isn't it? The so-called genius," a villager sneered, pointing at Yusuke.

"Yeah, who does he think he is?"

"..."

"...…"

Yusuke's heart sank as whispers followed him through the streets. It finally hit him what had happened. His chest tightened.

[Ding!]

[Special Mission Activated: Save the White Fang. As a great shinobi of Konoha and the host's father, he must not die such a pathetic death. Change the fate of Hatake Sakumo.]

"Kato-san, Minato-nii... I'll head home first. You two can handle the report to the Hokage," Yusuke said.

Before either could respond, his body vanished in a flash of light.

Minato and Dan exchanged glances, their concern growing deeper.

Yusuke burst into the Hatake residence. Inside, he found Kakashi sitting quietly, his eyes lifeless.

"Kakashi! Where's Dad?!" Yusuke demanded.

"In his room," Kakashi answered softly, the exhaustion in his voice evident. He had endured days of ridicule and cold glares.

Yusuke rushed into the bedroom. There, he saw Sakumo sitting in silence, the fire in his eyes all but extinguished.

"You're home," Sakumo said weakly, forcing a smile.

"I heard everything, Dad." Yusuke's voice was calm, but his eyes burned with emotion.

The look on Sakumo's face grew even dimmer.

"You did the right thing, Dad. I support you completely," Yusuke said, smiling gently.

"…Really, Yusuke?" Sakumo's eyes flickered with surprise. Deep down, he'd feared even Yusuke wouldn't understand. In the original timeline, even Kakashi had failed to accept his decision.

"Of course. Ninja follow missions to protect the village, but saving your comrades is just as noble. Isn't that what the First Hokage believed too?"

Tears welled in Sakumo's eyes. Hope began to return to his expression.

He had quietly blamed himself for everything. But Yusuke's words gave him the courage to keep living.

Just then, a loud commotion erupted outside.

"Kakashi, the villagers are here," Yusuke murmured, sensing the hostility in the air.

"Heh… It's fine. Don't worry. Come with me," Yusuke said, his voice unnaturally calm.

Kakashi recognized that expression. He had seen it once before—when a group of children from a prestigious clan had bullied him. Back then, Yusuke had worn the same face… right before breaking their legs one by one. If not for a passing jonin, things might've gotten worse.

"Let's go." Yusuke ruffled his brother's hair and turned to his father.

"Rest, Dad. I'll take care of this."

As soon as they stepped outside, an egg flew toward them.

Yusuke caught it effortlessly.

"Bring out Hatake Sakumo! That so-called White Fang brought nothing but shame to this village!" a villager shouted angrily.

Rotten leaves followed, thrown from the crowd. Yusuke stood his ground, shielding Kakashi behind him, letting every bit of filth hit him instead.

"My, my… life must be pretty good in Konoha if you people have time to throw food around," Yusuke said coldly.

With that, he released his Haoshoku Haki.

In an instant, everyone in the mob dropped to their knees, overwhelmed by the crushing spiritual pressure. He wasn't even using full strength—just enough to force submission.

"Pathetic. Laser Beam."

A streak of light shot from his finger, hitting the man who threw the egg. The blast didn't explode, but it was enough to make him scream in pain.

"Arghhhh!!"

"Stop this at once!" Tsunade's voice rang out as she finally arrived, having rushed to find Yusuke after hearing of his return.

"Why are you attacking us?!" one of the villagers cried.

"Hahahahaha! Why am I attacking you? That's rich!" Yusuke barked out a bitter laugh. "You throw things at me, insult my father, and expect me to just stand there? I'm a Chūnin of this village. If you're allowed to attack me, why shouldn't I strike back?"

His gaze sharpened. "My father—Hatake Sakumo—the White Fang of Konoha, is a war hero. He bled for this village. And you dare insult him like he's trash?! Who gave you the right?!"

"If he's such a hero, why did he cause such a huge loss to the village?" someone scoffed from the crowd.

"Fine. Let me show you what a 'loss' really is."

Another laser blast.

"Yusuke, that's enough!" Tsunade barked.

"You have no authority here, Tsunade," Yusuke said flatly.

Tsunade froze. His tone was sharp—merciless. But she didn't step in. She couldn't. Deep down, she shared his anger. These villagers had no idea what kind of man Sakumo truly was. And if it weren't for Yusuke, Konoha Hospital wouldn't even exist today.

"I'm honestly amazed by you civilians," Yusuke continued. "Even elite Jonin call my father 'sama' or 'dono'. But you… you nobodies… you speak his name with such disdain? If I killed every one of you right now, what would you do about it?"

Silence. The air grew still. The villagers began to tremble.

"You think you're safe just because we protect you? If not for ninja like my father, this village would've burned to the ground long ago."

"And don't fool yourselves. No shinobi in history has a perfect mission record. Not even your precious Hokage—Hiruzen Sarutobi."

Yusuke's voice trembled with fury. He couldn't forgive Hiruzen for this. The mission should've been classified. Instead, even civilians knew the details. Perhaps Danzō had leaked it—but still, Hiruzen failed to protect Sakumo's name.

"Think! My father failed that mission because he saved a comrade who later betrayed him!" Yusuke shouted. Several villagers lowered their heads.

"But... that shinobi never asked to be saved," someone whispered.

"Hah?! Then why didn't he kill himself on the spot? What, he wanted to be captured? Tortured? Spill Konoha's secrets?!" Yusuke snapped.

No one answered. His logic was airtight. If that man had truly wanted to protect the village, death would've been preferable.

"…Don't worry. I'm done hurting you," Yusuke said, his voice dropping.

"But clearly, life is too easy for you people. Throwing food like it's nothing, while orphans and the poor are starving."

He turned to Tsunade.

"Tsunade, take note. Every person here—and their families—if they come to Konoha Hospital? Charge them five times the normal fee. The surplus goes to a fund for orphans and the poor."

Regret rippled through the crowd.

But it was too late for regret now.

"…Understood," Tsunade replied without hesitation.

She wasn't just complying—she agreed with him. These people needed to learn, and more importantly, Yusuke deserved her full support. After all, without him, the hospital she worked so hard to build would never have existed.
