Chapter 2 - His rules, my breakdown.

Skylar's POV

My eyes jolted open as the torturous sound of the alarm blared through my ears, interrupting the peaceful quiet of the morning that filled my room.

"Aarrgghh!" I thudded my legs against the pink blanket slightly wrapped around my body. I shut my eyes, trying to catch more sleep, but the alarm wouldn't stop.

"Issshhh" I hissed as I reached for my phone.

"What!" My eyes widened seeing it was already past seven in the morning.

"Shit!" I sprang out of bed and hit my head on the drawer.

"Ouch!" I yelped as a throbbing pain awakened and shot through my body. I went to bed last night tired and hungry from all the work I had to do.

I even brought some work home as I couldn't finish the work before leaving the office at ten o'clock last night, and had to do it at midnight.

"I can't believe I woke up late. I can't afford for Mr Ravenscroft to find fault with me." I murmured as I ran towards the bathroom.

In ten minutes, I was pulling a red flare gown down my waist. I packed my hair in a bun quickly and grabbed my black handbag.

I scanned my shoe rack, deciding which shoe to wear.

"This will do," I grabbed a black low heel and ran out of my one-room apartment.

"7:29!" I whispered with a frown as I rushed into the bus. There was no seat, and my feet screamed in protest.

Finally, I arrived at the Ravenscroft group at fifteen minutes to eight and ran towards the elevator like a hyena.

The elevator bing sent me running with speed, leaving everyone else behind.

"Has he arrived?" My stifled voice found its way to the receptionist's ears, and she looked up at me with a smile, which was surprising.

"No…. Lucky you." She chuckled and stood up from her seat.

"My name is Sonia. Sorry, I couldn't introduce myself yesterday. The only way to survive around Mr Ravenscroft is to be as stiff as he is." Sonia explained, and I nodded my head even though my brain was spiralling at the moment.

"It's okay, I can only imagine what you must have been going through. It's just one day, and I'm losing my mind." I panted as I spoke.

"I can tell you look like hell. Did you even get any sleep? The black eye is glaring. And your hair is all over your face" She pointed out, and I let out a chuckle.

"If only you knew, how long have you been working here?" I heaved a deep sigh.

"Six years.." she answered, and my mouth dropped open.

"How did you manage to hold out this long?" I was almost yelling.

"Good for me, I don't have to deal with him directly all the time, unlike you." She pouted her mouth, and all of a sudden, she straightened up, and her face went still.

"Good morning, Mr Ravenscroft.." I heard her and quickly turned around.

My eyes locked with his, and I felt chills spiral through me. My entire body was shaking, and I had to lean on Sonia's desk to support myself.

"Good morning, Mr Ravenscroft…" He was already out of sight before I could finish my greetings. I dropped my head and shut my eyes for a few minutes and opened them again. I looked at Sonia, and she winked at me before returning to her desk.

I nodded at her and walked towards my office.

As soon as I opened my office door, the telecom beeped, and I knew I was in trouble.

"What the hell does he want this time?" I muttered beneath my breath as I turned back.

"Mr Ravenscroft, you called for me, Sir." I bowed my head as I spoke, and he looked up at me with his eyes darkened like those of the devil.

"Where's my coffee?" His voice thundered through the office and down the hallway, and I shook to my bones.

I froze on the spot and bit my lips so hard that I was bleeding.

How could I have forgotten something like that?

"Didn't you read the rules?" He tilted his head towards me.

"Uhmmm, I'm sorry, sir. I will go get it right away." It took all the courage in me to gather my words.

I jetted out of the office and ran into mine. I flipped through the documents and found the rules I had glanced through yesterday.

My brain went on a rampage as soon as I realised I was supposed to get him breakfast myself as well.

"What!" I exclaimed, and I felt my bones snap in anger. I clenched my fist into a tight ball. That was all I had left.

I dropped my handbag and ran to the food corner on our floor, and made his coffee black just the way he requested.

I didn't bother knocking when I got to his office and pushed the door open. I walked calmly to his desk and dropped the coffee on it.

"My breakfast?" He asked in a single breath.

"I already ordered it, I will go pick it up now." I lied, and he waved his hand in dismissal

I ran to my office and quickly picked up the office telephone.

"Pick up, pick up…" I drummed my finger against my desk dramatically with my leg shaking gently.

"Aahh! Good morning…" I screamed in excitement.

"My name is Skylar, and I'm calling from the Ravenscroft group. Please, I would love to place an order. Can you make it quick? My job depends on this." I pleaded with the other person on the other end.

"Thank you. Uhmmm…. I will be having shrimp rice with some….." I went ahead and placed the order and dropped the telephone as soon as I was done.

I grabbed my handbag and ran out of my office. I got outside the company and quickly checked the map for the location of the restaurant.

"What! That far? Why does it have to be this restaurant?" My face twisted into a frown, and I almost felt like dropping to the floor and crying.

It took a few minutes to find a cab. Luckily for me, my order was ready and packed by the time I got there. I breezed out of the restaurant and headed back to the company.

I made it to the CEO's floor, panting and gasping for breath. I drew in sharp breaths to calm down before knocking on Mr Ravenscroft's door.

"Your breakfast is here!" My voice came out as a whisper, and I dropped the food on his desk.

"Take it away, I won't be eating it anymore… It's past my breakfast time. You made my coffee late as well as my breakfast, I'm only pardoning you because it's your second day." He said as though he was reciting a poem.

"Don't let this ever happen again, I won't let it slide next time." he simply said, and I felt my blood boil.

My eyes stung with tears, and I stared at him for a while dumbfounded as my mind went blank.

"What did you just say?" I didn't know when I asked as tears trickled down my face.

My stomach grumbled in hunger, and I shut my eyes. I looked away and quickly wiped the tears away.

"You can have the food," he added and turned away from me.

I picked up the food in a daze and walked out of his office feeling numb.

My phone beeped jolting me out of my subconscious. I scurried my phone out of my pocket and quickly checked the message that had popped up.

"Mom!" I whispered in shock as more tears flowed down my cheek. I sank into my chair and dropped my head on the desk, allowing the tears I've been keeping at bay to flow.

The office telecom beeped, but I didn't bother answering it. I can't stand to deal with him right now. It beeped a few more times, but I remained glued to the chair.

All of a sudden, after a few minutes, my office door slammed open, and I quickly looked up.

The temperature in the room dropped, and the air in the atmosphere thickened with so much awkwardness.

And there he was…
