Chapter 18 - The Overseer's Tastes are Extremely Peculiar

The blond young man sat quietly in the principal's office chair.

Golden twilight streamed into the room, complementing his handsome features and saintly aura, making one feel as if they were gazing upon a god.

It was such a sacred scene that if a master painter were present, they would surely have been inspired to paint a timeless masterpiece titled, The Schicksal Overseer at St. Freya.

Of course, this sacred scene would have been even better if one could ignore the book in his hands.

Mo Wang stared blankly at Otto, momentarily at a loss for words.

Should he say hello?

Somehow, the atmosphere didn't feel quite right.

"Ahem, Lord Overseer, we have arrived."

Seeing Mo Wang and the Overseer both frozen in place, as if they'd been hit by Medusa's petrifying gaze, Rita finally spoke up, prompting the Overseer, who was engrossed in his book.

"Oh! My apologies. I happened upon a rather interesting novel when I arrived and became quite engrossed," Otto said, as if he had truly only just noticed their presence. He placed the book in his hand on the desk.

Watching Otto's action, the Valkyries from St. Freya all wore strange expressions.

Mo Wang, on the other hand, couldn't hold it in any longer.

To be able to read NTR fanfiction about himself with such relish... as expected of Otto. He had truly evolved to the point where, as long as he could read a story about his goddess, he was perfectly fine with being cuckolded himself.

The thought process of a pervert was truly beyond the comprehension of a normal person.

"So, does the Lord Overseer enjoy this book?"

On some strange impulse, Mo Wang couldn't help but ask Otto.

"Ah, yes. It's a very good book. Although the author's writing is still a bit green, the story can't help but remind me of what happened all those years ago. Kallen was still so young back then..." As Otto spoke, a blissful smile appeared on his face.

This, however, made Mo Wang's composure crumble even further.

Seriously? I wrote the story from the Overseer's perspective, with the heroine running off with the Miko, and packed it full of every toxic trope imaginable. And you're still reading it with such enjoyment? Are your tastes really that extreme?

"Ahem! Lord Overseer, I don't think now is the time to be discussing novels. After all, Lady Theresa and the others are waiting," Rita said, her expression as calm as ever, though Theresa and the others behind her looked like they were about to burst.

"My apologies, my apologies. When one gets old, one tends to reminisce about the past. Speaking of which, this book is quite good, but the updates are terribly slow. If only I could meet the author. Alas, young people these days are no longer willing to study the history of the past." As he spoke, Otto shot a subtle glance at Mo Wang.

Standing before Otto, Mo Wang understood for the first time what it felt like to be on pins and needles.

It wasn't that he was afraid of Otto finding out he wrote the book anymore.

It was the fact that he was standing in front of the main character of his own hate-fic, receiving praise, and even being asked for more updates. Wasn't that just a little too surreal?

You could probably search the entirety of history and not find many situations this bizarre.

"Heh... heheh. I'm sure the author would be very happy to hear that."

Mo Wang could only manage a strained laugh, his long-dead sense of shame suddenly resurrecting itself just to deliver a Noxian Guillotine to his psyche.

"Hahaha, I've gotten sidetracked. I didn't come here for anything else, really. I mainly wanted to see what my appointed Hyperion captain thought after his first mission."

"After all, not only did you complete the mission splendidly, but you also foiled Anti-Entropy's plot. It is only right that I should come and see for myself."

Otto smiled faintly, as if the previous conversation had never happened.

"Oh? I had no idea my appointment came directly from the Lord Overseer himself! This humble servant is overwhelmed with favor. But please, there's no need for a reward. The promotion itself is the greatest gift of all."

Mo Wang feigned surprise, shamelessly asking for benefits even though Otto hadn't mentioned anything about a reward.

"Aiya~ How could that be? A splendidly completed mission must be rewarded. Tell me, what would you like?" Otto didn't seem to mind Mo Wang's shamelessness and actually seemed intent on giving him something.

"Oh, well, this is embarrassing. Let me see... I don't really need anything in particular, but I have noticed that St. Freya's equipment has been a little lacking recently. In that case, I won't ask for too much. Just a few thousand sets of Valkyrie battlesuits would be fine. Nothing too high-grade, B-rank will do."

"Heh, I think you're treating me like a local landlord. A few thousand sets of Valkyrie battlesuits? You actually have the nerve to say that?" Otto couldn't help but laugh.

Valkyrie battlesuits hadn't been in development for that many years. Even the most basic B-rank suits... the entirety of Schicksal probably had a few thousand sets at most.

And this kid, Mo Wang, had the audacity to ask for all of them in one go.

"Rita, you see? What did I tell you? When I wanted this slacker to be a captain, he refused no matter what. And now that he's been forced into the position at St. Freya, he's suddenly become so dedicated."

Otto said to Rita with a smile.

"Hehe, Lord Overseer, it's just a matter of doing the job one is given. Since I'm the captain of the Hyperion, I have to look out for my subordinates, don't I?" Mo Wang chimed in with a sly grin.

"Forget it. You can forget about several thousand sets of armor. With Anti-Entropy making large-scale moves, the other branches are also short on equipment. I can give you a few dozen sets, though."

"Oh my, how could I accept? Here, Lord Overseer, you look a little stressed lately. How about I give you some Ren Zhong Huang and Ren Zhong Bai to help you recuperate? Don't worry, they're homegrown and absolutely authentic!" [T/N: Ren Zhong Huang and Ren Zhong Bai are traditional Chinese medicines derived from... human waste. They are used for detoxification.]

"Pfft!" Fu Hua, who was standing next to Theresa, couldn't hold back her laughter.

She was practically shaking.

She finally understood just how sharp Mo Wang's tongue was. And he was incredibly bold, too.

To actually suggest Otto ingest those two things.

In the last five hundred years, no one had ever dared to speak to Otto like that.

Mo Wang was truly one of a kind.

"Oh? You know a bit of medicine? I can't say I've heard of those two things," Otto said, eyeing Mo Wang suspiciously.

"Eh~ Just a little family skill, nothing worth mentioning. Lord Overseer, are you sure you don't want to try some? They're very effective. Everyone who's tried them says they're great! One dose and they're silent."

"I'll pass," Otto said with a wave of his hand. "Since we've met, I should be on my way." As he spoke, he stood up.

"Grandfather, you're leaving so soon?" Theresa looked at Otto with curiosity. This was the first time Otto had ever left so early.

"Yes, my dear granddaughter. There's still a lot to do back at headquarters. I can't stay and play with you. We'll get together next time."

Otto said with a smile as he and Rita left the room.

However, after Otto had gone, Mo Wang couldn't help but frown.

Despite their lighthearted conversation, Mo Wang hadn't relaxed for a second.

He knew that Otto was, at his core, a tyrant.

And everything he did, he did for a reason.

For him to suddenly come to St. Freya, do nothing, and then just leave...

It only made Mo Wang more suspicious about what Otto had really been doing here.

"Tch, I really don't like dealing with psychopaths."
