Chapter 12 - "Sign-In Luck and "Murder Magic"

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Shepherd]: "Guess the sign-in points really do reflect your luck. Got a good haul today."

[Shut-in Angel]: "6… It's this late and you're still up? Planning to cultivate immortality or something?"

[Shepherd]: "It's barely past nine. Who actually sleeps this early?"

[Shut-in Angel]: "Plenty of people. Frieren's already out cold—she can't stay up late at all."

[Busujima]: "If she sees this in the morning, she's going to be mad again."

[Group message]:Shut-in Angel has recalled a message.

[Shut-in Angel]: "Now no one will ever know."

[Shut-in Angel]: "Anyway, I bet your luck was good too—five points is no joke."

[Busujima]: "That topic change was clumsy… but speaking of which, did you head out right after signing in, Rosen?"

[Shepherd]: "Yeah. And the moment my left foot stepped into the convenience store, I hit a prize—could take anything I wanted up to 2000 yen, plus a watermelon. Also ran into an interesting girl."

[Busujima]: "A girl, huh. Must be nice—you can still walk around and meet people. I haven't seen another survivor in days."

[Shut-in Angel]: "A girl? If it were a guy, that'd be a fateful encounter~"

[Shepherd]: "No thanks. I've got zero interest in guys."

[Shut-in Angel]: "Wait… why do you sound like you're not a girl?"

[Shepherd]: "???"

[Shepherd]: "What exactly made you think I was a girl?"

[Shut-in Angel]: "You're a guy?!"

[Busujima]: "You just figured that out? 'Rosen' doesn't exactly scream 'girl's name.'"

[Shut-in Angel]: "Then you've seen all our girl-talk?! I was planning to turn this group into my harem, but—ugh! A man slipped in! This is unacceptable!"

[Shepherd]: "You think anyone else here even wants to be in your little yuri paradise?"

[Shut-in Angel]: "Tch. Don't get me wrong—my orientation's perfectly normal. I just think it's natural for a shut-in to want to keep all the good stuff for themselves."

[Busujima]: "Like a collector's obsession?"

[Shut-in Angel]: "Exactly! And for the record, in all 162 games I've played, I've 100% completed every single one. That's what makes me a true NEET."

[Hell's Blizzard]: "That's some random hot-blooded energy I'll never understand."

[Busujima]: "Blizzard, you're up too?"

[Hell's Blizzard]: "Yeah. Seeing the newbie's luck today made me want to test my own. I'm staying up till midnight to sign in and try my luck with the free gacha."

As leader of the Blizzard Group, she'd been working to make it the largest B-Class esper organization in the world.

And as B-Class Rank One, she wanted to grow stronger herself.

Unfortunately, leveling up her psychic power was nearly impossible.

Her best bet now was the group chat—either by spending points to boost herself, or gambling on the lottery for a miracle.

[Bad Woman]: "Looks like we're all thinking the same thing."

[Shut-in Angel]: "Except the old man. And none of you better try to beat me—I'm signing in first!"

Seeing everyone pop up in the chat, Rosen suddenly remembered he still had a free spin left in the lottery.

Without hesitation, he switched to the draw screen and used it.

[Lottery Notice: Group member "Shepherd" has won "Murder Magic" in a free draw.]

When someone wins in the group lottery, it doesn't blast a full server-wide announcement like in some cheesy novel—but it does scroll across the lottery bar three times, and anyone can check the draw history.

Murder Magic?

That name… sounds like trouble.

Rosen felt like he'd heard it somewhere before. After looking into it, he realized it came from Frieren's world.

It was the very first "Piercing Spell" created by the Corrupt Sage Duval—designed to punch straight through a human's defensive magic and magic-resistant gear, then wreck the body from the inside out.

Of course, it also had another name: Basic Attack.

After the war with the demons, Frieren and human mages improved it into a spell specialized for wiping out demons.

It could still hurt non-demons too—just not as badly.

"So after all that, it's just a buffed-up basic attack, huh?"

Rosen was a bit surprised, but didn't really care.

It was a free lottery draw—he wasn't expecting to pull some god-tier ability that would instantly make him invincible.

The limits were baked in. Even if you drained the prize pool, the best you could do was boost an ordinary person up to… maybe city-busting level.

Freebies were never going to beat paid rewards. Otherwise the universe would be upside down.

And this so-called Murder Magic? Rosen had zero use for it.

His divine power was way beyond that.

Still, just because he wasn't impressed didn't mean everyone else could sit still.

[Hell's Blizzard: "???"]

[Hell's Blizzard: "Wow… is this what 5 o'clock luck looks like?!"]

"..."
