Chapter 15 - "The Kendo Captain's Second Chance"

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

That's the problem with about 99% of post-apocalyptic worlds…

Even with organized armored units, humanity still got steamrolled by zombies made of nothing but flesh and bone.

Rosen had seen plenty of apocalypse movies before.

The human armies in those films were like little candy figurines—never mind their aim, even the average rifle in those worlds seemed weaker than a BB gun.

As for tanks or artillery? Not even a shadow of them.

Obviously, the directors and screenwriters knew—once you roll a tank onto the scene, the whole plot falls apart.

Shepherd: "Who knows? Maybe there were mutant zombies?"

Even he couldn't convince himself of that one.

After all, in the Resident Evil game universe, only a few cities ever had outbreaks. And every final boss in the series could be taken down with a single RPG rocket.

If not? Just fire another one.

No one in the chat pressed the point.

Saeko: "If no one objects, I'll go ahead and take the gene injection."

Shepherd: "If the chat says it's fine, then it's fine. Use it. That virus in your world is still deadly for normal people."

Without a serum, any regular person who came in contact with the virus would turn into a corpse.

Becoming a superhuman like Alice? That was a matter of sheer luck.

Alice was an Umbrella test subject from the very start of her story—the only one of her kind out of billions on the planet.

Saeko, in her own Apocalypse world, was just a supporting character.

If she got infected, maybe she'd last a few hours longer than others… but she'd still end up as "Saeko the Corpse."

Fubuki: "Yeah, you can use it. The chat's reliable."

With the group's encouragement, Saeko made up her mind.

From their everyday conversations, it was obvious—she was the only one without any sort of superpower.

Even Rosen, the newbie, didn't seem like an ordinary human from the little he'd let slip.

Thinking about her own situation, and the "mutated corpses" Umbrella was supposedly making, Saeko decided she had to get stronger.

Following the instructions, she pressed the needle to her neck.

A light push, a sting no worse than a mosquito bite, and the translucent liquid slid into her veins.

That was it?

Nothing. Not even a tingle.

She was still wondering if it had worked when heat slammed through her body.

It came out of nowhere—intense, overwhelming.

Even Saeko, with her high pain tolerance, let out a soft groan.

Sweat beaded over her pale skin as yellowish oils and clogged sebum pushed out from her pores.

Her genes were rewriting themselves. Bones and muscles strengthened.

And inside her… a new force was awakening.

When the pain finally faded, Saeko realized she could move things with her mind.

She tested it—a heavy bookshelf slid aside like it weighed nothing.

But after a few tries, her head was pounding.

Even so, she couldn't hide the excitement on her face.

Saeko: "I took the injection. My body's stronger now—and I've got some kind of telekinesis."

Fubuki: "Congrats."

Makima: "Congratulations."

Rosen's eyes narrowed.Wasn't this basically an Alice clone?

Saeko–Alice–Saeko, huh?

Saeko: "Thanks. Now I can actually survive in this world on my own."

Before this, she'd only been captain of the kendo club.

Impressive-sounding, sure—but only a little above average in a real fight.

Fubuki: "Don't worry. Your world's already unusual. If you ever need help, just say so—don't hold back."

Makima: "I think what she's trying to say is… she feels awkward about accepting free help forever."

Fubuki: "It's no big deal. Just sending over some supplies via red envelope."

Shepherd: "Makima's right. If you keep helping for free, they'll start to rely on you. And Saeko can't depend on us forever. Supplies were never the core problem over there."

Shepherd: "If you want a permanent fix, you'd need to either wipe out the virus completely or move to a secure, resource-rich shelter. But until the chat adds a meet-up function, that's off the table."

Lazy Angel: "Phew~~~! Thought I was gonna die from the pain earlier! That's it—I'm pulling an all-nighter to heal my wounded soul."

"..."
