Ivy's POV
Jade and Faith stood there, paralyzed by my announcement.
"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" Jade's voice was strained as she took a deliberate step in my direction.
I let out an exasperated sigh. "Everyone has ten thousand dollars on their card now. So can you all just leave me alone?" I couldn't hide my irritation any longer.
Jade's face contorted with indignation. "I want more," she demanded, punctuating her words with a childish stomp of her foot.
"Excuse me?" I let out an incredulous laugh, certain I had misheard.
"You heard me. I deserve more," she insisted, her voice rising. "If everyone gets ten thousand, I should have what you have—one hundred thousand."
My mother erupted into mocking laughter, her eyes gleaming with derision. "Are you serious right now? What makes you think you deserve special treatment?" She rose from her seat, moving with the fluid danger of a predator. "You're still acting like you're superior to everyone else."
