Chapter 3 - the prodigal son's escape

Billy is sitting at the bar sipping his glass of milk while Wang, Johnny, and Elva chat, and Huan is closing the casino. It's dark, almost 1 a.m.

Wang: During my visit to the astral world, I was able to speak with the Maitreya.

Elva: What did he say?

Wang: I think something's brewing, but something big. I think we should go visit the Hawkeye Akimo.

Johnny: Who or what is he? Wang: He's a person, a chief of the Indian tribe who has exceptional powers of divination.

Johnny: It will be without me, I don't want to. My people have already done a lot of harm to his tribe, and if he sees me, he might imagine things.

Johnny is sitting at the back of the room, his back against the wall.

Wang: Then I'll go there tomorrow morning. Billy, I need you. Akimo has always had the habit of creating a magnetic field that blurs the view of where he lives.

Billy nods and smiles. Elva asks to speak to him alone in a corner.

Elva: I think we need to do something for Billy.

Wang: Like what? Elva: You know that.

Wang stays calm, you know that we can't bring him back to his village. They want to make him a martyr for their cause.

Elva: And if that was his destiny, a power like his must also serve his people, like Akimo does with his own.

Wang: I remind you that he left on his own and...

Elva: I know that you care about him like the little brother you never had, and that you're doing your best to help him master his power, but remember, he's still a child.

Wang stays calm, then smiles. Wang: I understand.

The next morning, Billy and Wang return to the forest on horseback and explore several places without finding anything. Then Billy gets off the horse, clasps his hands into fists, closes his eyes. When he opens them again, their eyes are white. A light like radar circulates across the landscape. Then Billy points Wang a little further on. Once there, Billy touches a jasma stone that opens a passage. Billy and Wang enter; it's a basement. Inside, everything is black, then lights illuminate the landscape, a mini underground city where the last descendants of the Indian tribe live, temples, children playing, when a flash of lightning appears. Billy and Wang are Akimo.

- What do you want, Wang, son of Sarah Middlesbrough.

Wang: Still as welcoming as I can see? He's a rather young man, 25 years old, but very mature, with magical tattoos.

Billy is fascinated, as he is every time he sees Akimo.

Wang: I need your help tracking a dinghy, a ghost. Thanks to your vision, you can see the traces these monsters leave because many are now able to camouflage the sulfurous smell they usually give off.

Akimo: You could have asked that child who is capable of traveling between the two worlds, capable of making the dead speak.

Wang: Wii, but you know it's very dangerous, and he's not ready for that yet. What if you helped him master these powers?

Akimo: We'll see when the time comes. I also have responsibilities here, and going on a trip without really knowing when to return isn't a good idea.

Wang: Akimo, you know that some serious things are happening. We're encountering more and more of them lately. If I could ask someone else, I would.

Akimo looks at his village and the people around him, then reacts.

Akimo: I accept, but on one condition.

Wang: Which one?

Wang teaches the warriors some martial arts moves. A week later, Billy, Akimo, and Wang return to where Elva and Huan are sitting, waiting. Wang finds the atmosphere strange.

Wang: What's wrong?

Huan takes out a scroll with the fool from the Sacred Tao school.

Wang: After all these years, they're reappearing now. What do they want? Elva: A monk and his disciple said that the temple is demanding the scroll your father stole and that it belongs to the monks.

Wang: How did they manage to find me?

Johnny appears, Akimo looks at him mysteriously.

- An Asian who does kung fu and magic tricks, they're not common, maybe alchemists, but they're in the pay of the aristocrats, at least most of them. They must have been looking for a while.

Huan: There's worse than that, if they were able to find us, there must be drifters after us!!

Elva: We should be on our guard from now on.

Wang: We have to seal the places, protect the premises, and above all...

Wang turns around when he notices that Billy has disappeared.

Wang: Where is Billy? Wang makes a hand sign, a diagram, writes something on the palm of his hand, he looks very angry, and Elva looks scared, then suddenly Wang is gone.

Billy is surrounded by cowboys who are laughing at him,

They criticize his skin, a light appears behind them, Wang is furious, almost explosive, without letting the cowboys say a word, Wang moves with incredible speed, hits one, the second pulls out his gun and shoots Wang, dodges the bullet and breaks his fingers, the third runs away. Billy is paralyzed with fear, flashbacks of his burned village come back to him, a man on horseback who shot his mother trying to protect him, his dead father and the man on horseback shouting:

- Where is your so-called Black Messi!!! Where is he??

When Billy often levitates, Wang tries to calm him down

Wang: Billy it's me!!!

A black mist appears around Wang, who grabs his hand but burns his palm and immediately releases him, Johnny, Elva and Huan arrive and pull Wang away, Akimo comes and intervenes

- Let me do it!

Akimo pulls out a stick and intones a chant. Images of Wang and Elva appear before Billy, then he passes out. When he wakes up, he finds himself in his room at Wang's establishment. In Wang's living room, the others are waiting for him. Billy notices the bandage on Wang's hand and bursts into tears.

Wang grabs him and comforts him.

"Hey, it's nothing, and it's my fault, I acted on impulse."

Then Elva comes to comfort him, then lifts Billy up and leaves.

Huan: What do we do now!

When suddenly, a man who looks rather well-to-do comes in, weapon in hand.

The stranger: Who's the one named Wang?

Wang: Who are you?

Stranger: My name is Sir Richard Westbrook of Birmingham, and I'm looking for my twin sister, Elizabeth. She was kidnapped by the Triads, and they're demanding money for her release.

Elva: Why are you knocking on our door?

Richard: We said if there's one person to contact, it's a certain Wang.
